Words cannot describe how much how I want a remake of the original Alice, I need it to be exposed to the modern audience, I love Alice, it deserves to be recognized more as a franchise, it was literally the baseline inspiration for my Webnovel yet none of the people who read Shimmering Star know about Alice which makes me sad cause it deserves every ounce of attention.

I had a screensaver that was Cheshire popping up and down and it scared the shut out of me but I still loved it. I’m 34 now, but I was a kid when this came out and I played it over and over again. I LOVED the little case book that came with it and I literally still have it. I’ve been following American for years waiting for the new one to be released and of course it was just freaking canceled by EA 😭😭😭😭😭😭

So, my dad told me to play this game, thinking I would like it, well, I didn’t get very far in and I quite for about two years. Then I saw a TH-cam video about it and it made me want to play it again and I’m so much further. It’s truly gained a spot in my heart and I really want my friends and such to know about it
I remember being in middle school and I borrowed the CD rom from a friend. I didn’t know how to play PC games. Didn’t even know there were pc games. Didn’t have internet back then. Knew about Alice in wonderland, but never watched it. I never really got scared of the horror aesthetic. It’s actually one of the things that brought me into wanting to play it more. I don’t remember most of the games, but I remember the mad hatter, jabberwocky, and the maze like queens courtyard. I was too young to care about the store, even if I did. It would just go over my head. I will say this, after watching this, it made me realize how much this game affected my taste growing up. I’m looking forward to replaying this. I will say as well, I couldn’t get into madness returns. I’ll have to retry though.
It's not fun to say but I can admit I was disappointed with Madness Returns. American Mcgee's Alice BLEW my mind on the other hand. I guess I therefore had too high expectations for Madness Returns.
One of the greatest video games to ever exist! I didn't get to play it until after Madness Returns and OH MY GO! did AMA blow me away. The story, the art design, the characters, the gameplay I love everything about it. I even bought a physical copy so if I can ever find a new computer with a disc drive i'm able to play it on PC as I can at least play it on Xbox 360 any time I want. I also bought the soundtrack on CD. No other video game has had a soundtrack where I love every song and am unable to skip over any of them.
I played it new. My stepdad was in the military, and they always had access to burned games and movies. We had a cracked(modded Xbox 360) and played discs with the game title written in Sharpie on them. 😂🤭 I didn't know it was illegal back then, didn't even cross my mind.
I remember wanting the original alice then found out it was only on PC. I never had a gaming pc so when madness returns came out and it had the original I was estatic.
Oh wow, the beginning of the game and its story has a similar aesthetic to Fran Bow. I can see why it was popular back then knowing about the Fran Bow game myself.
Damn man, i had no idea American had that traumatic of an upbringing. It must be so incredibly cathartic for him to make this, and simultaneously soul crushing for Alice 3 to be canceled. I'm still happy he was able to reach so many people with his work.

I went back through it again on a whim expecting to have my nostalgia glasses shattered, but I actually liked it even more than my first time playing. My original playthrough was on PC and my most recent playthrough was on 360. Despite playing a WORSE looking version the second time around, I was still struck by how well it holds up. I can't believe it looks as good as it does on 360. I also remember agreeing back when it came out with the popular criticism that it kind of drags longer than it needs to at times, but replaying it I really didn't feel that. It's a nice solid length. It's repetitive in some ways, but in a way that I find kind of cozy. There is enough variety to stop the repetition from feeling boring to me. It's really a shame we won't ever get to see Asylum...

I never played it, I was only vaguely aware of it's existence because it was not my jam at the time, now I see was really missing out. Watching the footage of the first game, somehow it reminded me a lot for the first 3 Tomb Raider games, the blocky-ness of it and the world textures reminded me a lot of that. It's a shame the game company put a stop on Asylum, it would've looked amazing with today's tech.

She Can't Effect The Real world On her own, But Can Manifest In Other People's Dream Worlds Causing all sorts Of Random Trouble, Lizzie,as A Character, would Be Completely Different from Her Sister. Where Alice Was Mostly Serious and Stern, Lizzie would be more Playful with the Characters she Interacts with, Because of the Trauma with What Dr Bumby did to Lizzie, Her personality Would be in this Morphed state to Grasp Affection and And act More Childish as Travels through Each Person's Mind. An In The End, Gets Closure by meeting Alice or something. The Second DLC Story Is where Alice, Trying to Learn her wonderland Powers, Accidentally Brings a friend To Wonderland. Having to work together to get the friend out, or meet a date worse than Death. Third and Final Story Based DLC, would Either Be An Episodic Journey of how Alice Met all the Kids from The Ending of Alice Asylum. Or an Adventure with Those Kids Dealing with Alice's Wonderland that's Somehow Been Leaking into The Real World.
It sucks that EA screwed American McGee over like they did, so many people were so looking forward to Alice Asylum and thanks to EA we won't ever get it.

I have the madness returns on my Xbox (360 backward compatible) and there is a copy of the original included within that game. I didn't really rate it The sequel is great though!

The mirror world was the most frustrating level for me, having to replay it 10 times over due to the stupid enemies that blow you in the pool in one of the rooms that instantly kills you (pretty much)
I used to sit and listen to the soundtrack... 😂😂 It doesn't hold up, but I do still enjoy a few of the tracks. I can still hear that weird howling floating enemy's weird scream.
There are so many brilliant tracks in this game that are seared into my memory - Village of the Doomed, Fortress of Doors, Flying on the Wings of Steam (part 1 / part 2), The Puppet Queen... These tracks just drip with atmosphere and are strengthened by the use of recurring themes. It's considered a classic OST for a reason. I recommend the 'American McGee's Alice unofficial soundtrack' which removes a lot of the voices and SFX which were unwisely added over the music
i feel like you glossed over significant gameplay issues in your video, its fair to say the story, writing, and visuals were fantastic, and it still be fair to say the gameplay needs a lot of work and thankfully arent significant enough to overshadow what the game has to offer, the platforming in this platforming game was not platforming at all, and janky physics made it near impossible to use certain weapons in some situations, some levels lacked conveyance, and thank god quick save and quick load were included in the game
i completely agree that some games want to be movies more than games, the last of us comes to mind. i havent tried any walking sims because they look too boring and its the theories behind them that are fun anyways so... idk what that says about the game-game itself

They actually removed the bloody knife from the cover a couple of months in so collectors have made it very hard to find nowadays.

I used to sit and listen to the soundtrack... 😂😂 It doesn't hold up, but I do still enjoy a few of the tracks.
I can still hear that weird howling floating enemy's weird scream.
There are so many brilliant tracks in this game that are seared into my memory - Village of the Doomed, Fortress of Doors, Flying on the Wings of Steam (part 1 / part 2), The Puppet Queen... These tracks just drip with atmosphere and are strengthened by the use of recurring themes. It's considered a classic OST for a reason.
I recommend the 'American McGee's Alice unofficial soundtrack' which removes a lot of the voices and SFX which were unwisely added over the music
to me the soundtrack has a very psychedelic atmosphere to it and in general I think it's more unique than the second game's music.
i feel like you glossed over significant gameplay issues in your video, its fair to say the story, writing, and visuals were fantastic, and it still be fair to say the gameplay needs a lot of work and thankfully arent significant enough to overshadow what the game has to offer, the platforming in this platforming game was not platforming at all, and janky physics made it near impossible to use certain weapons in some situations, some levels lacked conveyance, and thank god quick save and quick load were included in the game
i completely agree that some games want to be movies more than games, the last of us comes to mind. i havent tried any walking sims because they look too boring and its the theories behind them that are fun anyways so... idk what that says about the game-game itself

im playing mcgees alice right now and its not a good game in any way, bad controls, bad level design, bad combat, annoying puzzles
Then.... Don't play it, and don't watch any videos about it... I don't know what to tell you. I don't like football or racing games, and you won't find me searching videos to complain about them on. 🤔🤭
Each to their own. I loved it.
Alice is a nice game. Not perfect, but filled with great atmosphere. Tge music is haunting and whimsical.
