It's just it's own game, its no where near undertale.
It's the themes of LISA that makes undertale look like a child's dream rather than some man's nightmare

@ASMR in Games There's also a prequal to Lisa: The Painful, which is short, more like a earthbound style puzzle game and not really a typical RPG (there's no battles).
It's free on the internet, and if you're planing on playing Lisa sometime, i would really reccomend getting it (called "Lisa: The First" btw)
It acts a huge part of the story and possibly an even more morbid experience than the Lisa games on steam.

I spent extra money to get Windows 7 on my computer rather than 8 or 10. Still have had no reason to regret this decision.
Windows 7 won't last forever. January 14, 2020 is just over 10 months away now.
Gaming on Linux is now at a point where the biggest roadblocks preventing brand new Windows games from working on Linux on day 1 are some DRM and Anti-cheat solutions.
We just need more committed gamers to sway developers into getting their DRM and Anti-cheat stuff to support Linux and we can save PC gaming from the clutches of the increasingly uncaring and user-hostile Microsoft.

Love Lisa. One of the most profoundly beautiful and demoralizing things I've ever experienced through video games. The only real-world equivalent would be watching a child tripping onto his precious show and tell piece, laughing, and then realizing he's turned into some mutant dog and he's now ripping out your lungs.
This video reminds me of that time Dunkey burned children in LISA.

If you liked Painful you should play Hopeful and Pointless. They're both fangames that are on par with Painful in terms of quality and are completely free.
Hopeful's easier than Painful, and Pointless is harder. All are great though. I personally like Pointless the most.
@@ianleather5699 Hopeful's my personal favorite, but that comes down to personal taste. All 3 are really good in their own right, and Hopeful's branching story keeps me coming back to it the most.

@@ianleather5699 Pointless is probably one of the best fangames I've seen in general. It's certainly the hardest Lisa game, but I'm salty waiting for the next part to come out.

I find myself thinking about the man dancing with a crystal ball on his head and the shock twist that happens when you visit him again. I chuckle every time. such a great game.
Glad I watched this, I think I'd previously passed on Lisa because of a Dunkey video or something so even though it's old and I know a bit about the game, you've changed my perception of it (if anyone else had made this video I would've passed it up but because it was from you I knew it'd be worth my time).

Dunkey's video didn't really represent the game fairly, which i just due to the nature of his channel, not his fault. But Lisa is an absolute masterpiece, I played it back when it came out and I can still say with utmost confidence that it's one of the best games I've ever played.
Dunky’s Lisa video is one of his worst ones since he really only commentates what’s happening rather than the talking about what sets the game apart from others or coming up with his own jokes
I had a friend I showed dunkeys video to and he didn't wanna try it. I did and it's became my favorite rpg and i'm a big rpg fan. I don't think I've really feel in love with any other setting as much as LISAs and they did the turn based system some justice by making it so difficult and harder to save scum

Its outright my favorite rpg out of all rpgs
I find it so hilarious because even though game get so much praise only 17% people that own this game actually finished this game till the end (I'm judging it from steam achievement %) Kinda sad considering its one of the best game I personally ever played and harsh difficulty barrier is probably what stops it from reaching undertale level of popularity.
Just wanna pop in and tell you that your review was what finally got me to play Lisa the Painful/Joyful.
I don't know why I waited so long to play this game, because its seriously becoming one of my favorite RPGs now.
Btw, I really enjoy your deadpan style of narration and I like your sense of humor.

One of my friends gifted me this game a long time ago, and I tried to get into it, but I always found it incredibly difficult to get into everything about it. However, your video has helped change my perspective on this game. I think I'm finally going to go back and give it the playthrough that it deserves.

Lisa The Painful came along and hit me like a mack truck. I remember just sitting in my chair, at my desk, for a little while after beating the game. I found so much of myself in Brad that I legitimately felt sorry for him by the game's end.

in my opinion the reviews that come out on launch day are actually not as valuable as reviews like this, because this review clearly shows that the game can still be good even though it's not the newest experience on the market. it's always nice to see whether games hold up, or even get introduced to great games that you might've initially missed, so i appreciate that you took the time to review this!

That uuuhhh-huuuuuuuh sound is from Shenmue 2.
Nah actually it's a down-pitched version of Lisa vomiting from the first game. It just so happened to sound exactly like the shenmue sound, and since dunkey pointed that out in his video on the game, the idea has spread

I tried forcing a LOT of my friends to play this game and they all got uncomfortable and stopped playing, 4/5 of them doing so even before Buddy ran away and killed a bunch of raiders, the other one quitting after he saw all the posters and the blood signs saying "
its a hard game to recommend cause the theme is very.. uncomfortable to put it mildly
Ironically enough if you actually keep in your party, by late game Terry Hints becomes one of the strongest companions in the entire game

Nice in depth video. I'd wish you didn't spoil a few details or at least warned about it. It could be just me, but no one ever spelled it out in the game that the mutants came to be because of joy, but something I had to piece together from experience and noticing the tiny details. Also, the realization of what's happening at the end feels a lot more impactful without the "And now X is happening".
Also, one thing I felt lacking is even a passing mention of LISA: The First, which is this game's prequel and sets up the events of the rest of the franchise.
Otherwise, I'm just glad to have more people giving this morbid game some notoriety. A job well done!

*I laugh so hard when I see Terry do his "Attack". It is that little slide where he just slowly slides up to the enemies feet, just after hitting the ground, that gets me every single time. This one of the best RPG's that I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It's only $5 on Steam and spending that small amount of money for such a great game, is a definite no-brainer. The game seems to remind me of this Chesterton quote:

The nearer my Windows 7 support draws to a close, the more Windows 10 starts to sound a somewhat spooky choice even after it's years out in the wild (On disc-DRM that plain doesn't work with the OS, updates akin to the mentioned, etc). It certainly gives me a little more to think about when updating my rig, so cheers for that tid-bit!
Otherwise, LISA continues to be something I hear great things about, and maybe when I stop forgetting what games I still need to play or even which games I'm looking forward to (One truly is spoiled for choice for video games, especially when one wants to catch up on the PlayStation 2's library, let-alone the PlayStation 4 or Switch's), I'll certainly be keen to feel it's pain for myself.
