Since LaceUp's inception, our #1 priority has always been to understand the specific needs of our clients so that we can better assist distributors in their daily business practices and company growth. One such need is understanding whether or not a distributor should take the DSD route or PreSale. Therefore, in today's video, we will be discussing the common characteristics and differences of DSD versus PreSale.
We hope that sharing this information will help you in deciding which route is the best fit for your company, and in turn generate strong revenue ! Reference below for a quick breakdown of each.
    DSD:
    1. In general, DSD distributors carry products that move quickly. Therefore, your goal as the distributor is to actively replenish the display stock of these products, keeping up with the speedy turnover of said stock.
    2. DSD products are generally much less valuable than the PreSale products. Examples include snacks, spices, tortillas, etc.
    3. DSD products are generally perishable, so at some point they have an expiration date and a lot that needs to be tracked.
    4. DSD product orders are much smaller on average due to the heavy frequency of transactions to replenish the stock.
    5. Lastly, a DSD distributor will not be carrying millions of dollar in product in their trucks, rather the sufficient inventory needed to replenish displays at their stores. Therefore, DSD distributors are considered merchandisers because their focus is to ensure the displays at their allotted stores are filled and visually appealing.
    PreSale:
    1. PreSale products move much slower, therefore the intervals between visits is longer.
    2. PreSale products are much more valuable than their DSD counterparts. Examples include home items, health and beauty products, etc.
    4. PreSale products do not expire as quickly as DSD products.
    3. A PreSale employee is considered more of a salesperson because they must visit customers and SELL them on a variety of products that the PreSale company orders.
    5. Lastly, PreSale orders are much larger in size and therefore take several days to process. This is because the PreSale employee must collect the order from the client, send said order to their home office so that it can be pick and packed, prepped for transportation, then delivered to the customer on the following day.
