The Russian Federation's Natalya Antyukh wins the gold medal in the women's 400m hurdles event in the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games (8 August).
Antyukh was followed by Lashinda Demus (USA) winning silver and Zuzana Hejnova (CZE) claiming bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

The 400h is the most painful race I think in all of track. A 400 can be painful, but add hurdles and it's death...

when i was a kid and started running 5000 and 10000 in international competition, i taught i was gonna be like running alongside those athletes... boy was i wrong, they start the race like it's gonna be just 100 meters and finish like that, when you're watching, the pace seems slow but down there oh no! then you realize what is all about .It doesn't just wear you down , all your body aches, dizzines, dehidration, delusion, it's a constant suffering not for one minute,for hours even after the race is over.
Personally, a 400 hurdle race is far easier than an open 400
Well....Demus should be getting the Gold, now. Since Antyukh has been stripped of her title for doping.
Natalya’s a drug cheat and doesn’t deserve the gold medal. May she live the rest of her life knowing that she robbed someone more deserving of such an accomplishment. Shame!
They never showed what year she was tested positive since she already retired since 2017. They just slapped a 4 year ban and disqualified any results from 2013 onwards, meaning she gets to keep her gold medal.
If she is stripped of the gold and the medals are redistributed Spencef would get a deserved Olympic bronze medal.
Lashinda Demus of the United States is set to be upgraded to the gold medal. Well done ! Hope you also upgrade her life of missed opportunities for the last 10 yrs!

MONACO (AP) - Russian runner Natalya Antyukh was disqualified on Monday from her 400-meter hurdles win at the 2012 London Olympics for doping, and Lashinda Demus of the United States is set to be upgraded to the gold medal.
Antyukh was already serving a four-year ban in a previous case judged by the Court or Arbitration for Sport last year that stripped her results from 2013 to 2015.
