Just picked up the same washing machine today and going to do this. “Not responsible if you destroy your washing machine or electrocute yourself” 🤣. Love your videos!! Your just a cool dude! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks. I actually did think about this. That might work, but the way washing machines operate they spin for a while and then pump for a little bit at the end when there is water in the basin. I am not sure the pump would be happy running dry most of the time. A lot of pumps will burn out if run dry.
Thank you for doing what I was looking for! I want to acquire a washing machine to do the same conversion. I will keep my eyes open for a similar model and give this a try! Again, thanks for sharing!
Half inch pex tubing works great to secure the basket. Had some extra laying around. Cut a length to encircle the inner drum. Sat it right on the ridge like in your video. Some tek screws to keep it in place. The basket now sits flush and secure!
Serendipitously, I think this might be just the type of washer people are likely to sell second hand. I did a bunch of research for my last washer (after enduring one that didn't clean the clothes for my situation) and that type with little/no agitator was a type that many didn't like. I would add one of the recent versions of a Speed Queen to your possibilities list (ie, the one with the very short agitator). Folks might be able to get one that is very clean and new-ish. I love a good reuse.
@@JoshSattinFarming This answers my question about how much it cost. :0 So all in, you have maybe $250 or so with the appliance switch...etc. Not bad and that washer looked very clean. Good video.
Fabulous information, one of your best info vlogs Josh. For the top edges I'd use some car window frame rubber as it will hold on and it should cost next to nothing. Thanks again Josh.. and Gene.
Hey Josh, please please use that cable armor / harness to control those wires. Not only you are able to 'cable manage' it better, if you use it in combo with high IP rating junction cable box, you'll be much safer with possible splash water or direct water. Those boxes most likely cost the same as the waterproof wire connectors. A box + managed wires will leave very little, if any, room for water to get into or onto exposed wires. Stay safe! Happy farming. Regards from Europe.
@@JoshSattinFarming Just replied here as you have most of the things there. The armor is already there only the cable box has to be bought. I don't wish it to any one to get shocked while working with water.
Hey Josh. I did a similar convert recently. I took that white plastic rim off the spinner though, so it's right back to stainless steel. A lot of those plastic rims hold water.
Just wondering why the switch/timer is on the neutral instead of the hot? Also, what do you do with a VFD 3-phase motor like so many of the newer washers? (They have multiple speeds, and reverse)
Hello Josh, I was able to build a spinnet recently. I also added bumbers to the top rim of the drum like you it was a nice snug fit. But, I noticed at high RPMs the basket would pop up a little which caused it to get out of balance and no function... Did you have this issue?
but how do you wire the timer the tork wiring is confusing, no where to connect the neutral wire with only 3 connection points; line 1, load 1, & load 2, how do you take the old power cable and connect it to the timer and then the timer to the washing machine?
Do you recommend this contraption 3 years later? Are you still using it? How is it holding up? I'm curious to hear about your experience, would you do anything differently?
I am planning to build one of these. I was wondering if making a custom basket out of stainless steel mesh would work? Seems like you could make it fit better and have more drainage? What do you think?
do you have a link for the buckets with hole not been able to fine them, link on your old wash station video was not good no longer, could not find them on agri supply , thanks in advance for any help
Honestly, it would probably be nice because you could do a soak then transfer it for a spin. And unless you get a really good deal on a washing machine, probably cheaper too. And the bonus of less effort to make it work the way you want it to.
It is the standard sized fish basket you can get in a lot of places. It is 18-19" wide at the top. I would just make sure whatever washing machine and basket you buy are compatible.
Nice job! - Just a thought - those handles on the basket spinning around look a little scary - could just be me - I might put a 1/2" screen door over that so no kid gets his hand caught.
Lol as an appliance tech you made me cringe as you cut in to that VMW washer. But it is neat to see that they can be used differently then what I normally see. By the way most Maytag, Amana and Whirlpool that are belt driven should work for this project.
I've watched it twice more, and I still don't see Gene's handiwork enlarging the lid opening so that you can put/pull the basket in/out yet cover up all those edges and open spaces m. What am I missing?

For me, I just love the noise it makes 11:23 when it spins
It a direct drive
corrugated split loom tubing would make a quick/dirty cover for that exposed metal edge. Great video, by the way!
Picking up my free Maytag washer Monday! can’t wait to do the conversion!
Pool Noodles would be excellent tubes to zip tie over the edgy parts. Colorful too!
Looks good. The pump could be kept and utilized to push the water wherever you would like it to drain as well, just splice it in with the drive motor

Yes, I bought this one used for $200. UVM also recommends certain Speed Queens too:

For anyone building this washer - The addition of a simple rotary dimmer allows you to control the speed of the spin!
Great Video Josh! I love my Washing Machine Spinner👍
WOW, cool innovation !
Yasss just in time!! Amazing as always

Gasp! Is that Mrs. Sattin @ 9:29 ?

Thanks for the concern. I agree that would be a more proper way to do it, but I really do think it will be fine.

Very nice….where can a basket like yours to buy?❤
Where is the blue basket from? What is it called? Cannot find them in Australia.

Thanks you you gave me a good idea on making a chicken plucker, be safe and blessed
This is excellent. On a different subject what is the best orientation for beds, polytunnel and green house?
Nice job. Will you please show another video of it in use? Thanks.
Here is a video with my old one, but it'll work the same way.

How would the ring affect the basket if you replaced it, to keep the tub in balance.
I wonder how we can integrate the bubbler WITH the spinner 🤔
Let me know when you figure it out!
Challenge accepted 🤠

Great ending.
Fantastic video!! Have you ever done a similar video for a germination chamber from a refrigerator or cooler?
I have not done that yet. If I do, I will be sure to make a video.
Love it
Sucks we don’t have top loaders in the U.K. 😩 great video josh!
Thanks Jack! Yeah, that is a bummer. I forget sometimes that things like appliances are different over there.
I don't believe you don't have any. less common maybe , but they will be out there

Instead of buying a timer you could have used the one from the control panel. It would take some other modifications but would work nonetheless.
Aren't there laundry spin dryers in the US? I'm not an electrician, but maybe those would be better at spin drying greens.
do you have a link for the buckets with hole not been able to fine them, link on your old wash station video was not good no longer, could not find them on agri supply , thanks in advance for any help
The one I have is the one that I bought from Agri Supply in store several years ago. I searched for "fish basket" on Amazon.

so, i guess our next project will be putting up a clothes line!!! HAAAA
Why not just run the spin cycle? I'm missing something major I assume
Sounded like it was going to take off. Like a old B UFO movie

I have seen people put a plexiglass lid on it that they flip down when it's running. Not a bad idea.
