Agreed, if this video doesn’t get over 1 million views... for Christ’s sake, what would Dan need to do have cops and S.W.A.T. be in this video shutting things down and arresting everybody?
They all sound great. However, Car #5 is the clear winner for my personal preference (and ignoring cost). It has the cleanest sound over the entire rpm range, maintains a great balance of baritone and high pitch notes, and belts out a signature banshee wail. Richard is a man of good taste. After reading my comment, I think I have read too many descriptions of craft beer - LOL
Yeah, I knew I needed to not say my opinions (I have strong ones on this subject) plus not tell people what is what before they know. People have a lot of brand loyalty so it's hard to step out of that.
Perfect! S-Line is the best exhaust. I picked #6 - that’s the ultimate setup. BTW, you’d be surprised how much of a difference the cat pipes make. The difference between iPE and Novitec test pipes were massive for me (Novitec brought out the goosebumps). Fabspeed test pipes sound like they’re the most extreme. Again, fabulous job with this video!
Hey, I picked 6 too. Would you say Novitec sounds even better than 6? And would you say that out of this lineup 6 is the closest to Novitec in tone and volume?
@@italianstallion399 Novitec is more refined at the low end (the S-Line has a resonant warble around 2500RPM). At the top end and at full throttle, S-Line is unmatched. However, the Novitec is very close. Yes, both #3 and #6 sound closest to the classic Novitec Rosso exhaust that first brought this high-pitched F1 sound to the 458.
Well planned and executed. My favorites changed pretty much shot to shot, oddly enough. No clear standout, overall. Pretty much all were excellent. The engine is the real winner.
Funny but not totally surprised that my initial favorite was #1... at least from the first sound comparison from standing still behind. I think Ferrari really nailed it, just need those valves open. But my number one pick by a small edge was #4. As a future 458 owner, this was an extremely valuable video! Thanks
That was a tough call, they were all great, but landed on 3 and 6 before knowing what they were. Although 6 ALMOST had too much burbling. Never thought I’d say that, but sounded almost Lambo like. I like car #6 the most. It seems the loudest and most aggressive which is what I like. But they ALL sound good to me. I could be happy with any of them even the stock car #1. Cool Video Dan.
What a great vid! So hard to compare exhausts from video to video because always different equipment, conditions, etc. So great to see them all tested the exact same. Wish they had this for many other cars. To be honest, they all sound amazing at full song, but 3 and 6 made the most impression on me when I was listening to the first round. I feel like 3 has the most F1 kind of sound which is what I would personally prefer. A little too much burble tune on #6. You did well!
In person, it’s not as close as it seems through headphones/speakers on TH-cam. #3, and especially #6, are the clear epic F1 screamers. I’ve had iPE, Novitec, some Fabspeed, and S-Line. S-Line is the most extreme and most thrilling and most awe-inspiring (based on anecdotal reactions from onlookers). It’s super obvious in person. Decibel levels are logarithmic; going up 4-5dB is very noticeable.
In person you can hear more differences. Unfortunately there's only so much the mic can pick up. The bassy baritone sounds that you can feel in your chest are completely lost in video sadly.
Thanks so much for the vid ! Really well made. For me it's a no brainer, the stock is the one. If it would be possible to just make it louder it would be the best. I really don't like any aftermarket high pitch exhaust on pretty much any Ferrari

Thanks! It's really splitting hairs with the sound. Each has a slightly different tone/sound and has unique characteristics. It's pretty cool how metal type, where the X-pipe is, and other small design factors can have such unique differences.
Number 3 sounded the best to me! Did you experience any drone noise in any of the cars? I have a 458 with a challenge cat back system, there is a drone sound between 3000 & 3500 rpm! And yes I purchased and had it installed by my Ferrari dealer!
No matter what you do, the cats really kill the sound sadly. Its even more obvious in person. Especially on deceleration and downshifts. None of these had any drone tho, 1&2 have cats obv, so that'd probably be closest to your sound?
Even the companies making these exhausts don’t do recordings like this, well done! 👍 458 has a great sounding engine, only a bit of nostalgia hits me: when shifting a manual you have this slight pause and then the palpable struggle of regaining momentum. Of course the shifting in modern cars is seamless and those subtleties are lost.
Some sound better at different points than others but the loudest ones are what I like. Honestly don't notice too much difference between the sound of each of them
What a great vid!!... For me it was a toss up between 5&6. If there was a big price difference that might be the deciding factor. Thanks for doing this. Im sure it took a lot to get all the cars together ... but we’ll worth it!

Hey man... I love my ipe like Loepar’s but I have to admit yours sounded great man. It’s a shame because people have to hear these in the flesh to really appreciate them for their own individuality.. I’m still picking my ipe man lol but i seriously the sline set up with fab headers is amazing. My brother also has a 458 (spider) I’ll convince him to get yours lol
Honestly, in person they all sound so good I don't know that I can say buy this over that... There is no wrong answer. LOL! But, yeah, I'm really pleased with my exhaust. :)
@@normalguysupercar the reason they are the best doesn’t have to do with price. There is a certain pitch that only Novitec hits, nothing like it IMO. Can tell the difference, especially in person. Nothing like full Novitec headers back.
Listened with high quality earphones, I'd say 6 a clear winner, followed by 4 and 3. PS: I answered before getting to end of the video, sound like I got good ears ;)
@@normalguysupercar Dan, i love all the sounds, but Noisy F1 was allways my favourit, but now yours is in the 1st place togheter, those headers just changed the pitch in such a way that does that amazing F1 sound. But i like that burble from number 6 too. So
From the exterior I do prefer the 4 and 6 (6 being the excessive choice). But from the interior the 3 sounds better than the 4 ! I wasn’t expecting that
3 for the rev, 3 or 6 for the takeoff, undecided for the back cam, car 5 on the interior, 5 or 6 for the flyby, but no matter what, I want the exhaust tips from 4 and the wheels from 2 or 4. I figure since as the owner/driver you'll be listening to it from the inside 99% of the time, I'd go with 5 or maybe 3 overall, since that was pretty good on the interior, too. If I were building something custom, I'd do inconel tri-y headers into high flow cats into an increasing diameter y-pipe, into a valved single-turn turbo style case muffler, and exit into a big stainless oval shaped NASCAR style boom tube thing to really fill out that exhaust cutout in the bumper. Either that, or an inconel sequentially-fired 8-into-1 direct into the same valved muffler and boom tube exit, but with no cats since they don't make decent high flows in the diameter needed for a single collector on something that flows as much air as a 458 motor.
It's so funny how they all sound "the same", yet have distinctive differences as well.
Yes, very close but small differences. :)

My 458 challenge evo actually has full stock exhaust. I wonder which exhaust variant would hold up the best on track.
Number 5. Great video.
Could you please do something similar with the Ferrari V12 cars?
Great video and I’m sure you’ll find lots of other people plagiarising your work when it comes to Ferrari V8 sounds. This is a defining piece of work. 👍
I want to buy gathering a bunch of modified v12 cars is logistically difficult. Most people don't modify them sadly.
@@normalguysupercar if ipe didn’t offer titanium I would have got your set up 100%
Novitec FTW for sure, none better. Great idea to do this.
Eh, I think Novitec is great, but it's not the end-all-be-all everyone thinks. Just because they are the most expensive doesn't make them the best.
@@normalguysupercar the reason they are the best doesn’t have to do with price. There is a certain pitch that only Novitec hits, nothing like it IMO. Can tell the difference, especially in person. Nothing like full Novitec headers back.
I balance between 4 and 5. What’s the price difference? For the Kline, is iconel very different than the stainless steel ?
Inconel adds a lot to the cost. Like 30-40% more. But it's insanely light.
@@normalguysupercar Ok but what’s added to the sound? More powerful? Different color?
@@zjick the sound changes to be more tinny, no changes in power. You can ceramic coat any of these top many different color
Dan.....bravo my friend
Thank you, and thanks for helping. :)
6 by farrr. they are all absolutely amazinggg
Yup
Listened with high quality earphones, I'd say 6 a clear winner, followed by 4 and 3. PS: I answered before getting to end of the video, sound like I got good ears ;)
Yeah headphones are the best on this video
@@normalguysupercar your car is just missing the burps and crackles while revving down, and a few decibels. #6 is astonishing, seriously.
Car #3 and Car #6 are my favorites 🏎🏎
3 or 4 sounds best imo. 6 sounds like it’s a straight pipe. Just a guess. Thanks for the video. You spent a lot of time doing this.
Thanks!
thank you for this video. as a 458 lover i thoroughly enjoyed the whole video!
You're welcome
my fave was def 4 or 6
OK I have to say 6 after the little quick rerun
6 is pretty evil sounding. 😁
I couldn't be present on the live, but here im ready to watch :)
Thanks
I need to watch this again sitting in my comfy chair and speakers on loud blast whilst sipping Barrel Bomb 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon.
@@studog05 agree
@@normalguysupercar Dan, i love all the sounds, but Noisy F1 was allways my favourit, but now yours is in the 1st place togheter, those headers just changed the pitch in such a way that does that amazing F1 sound. But i like that burble from number 6 too. So
From the exterior I do prefer the 4 and 6 (6 being the excessive choice).
But from the interior the 3 sounds better than the 4 ! I wasn’t expecting that
Fair enough!
Yes indeed
Were you happy with the dB meter you used? We are looking for one for the shop.
Eh, it works. It's nothing special.
My preference in order from best to worst
1) Car 3 (02:54)
2) Car 5 (04:14)
3) Car 4 (03:50)
4) Car 6 (04:40)
5) Car 2 (02:12)
6) Car 1 (01:44)
