- Recently Nintendo reopened Splatoon 1 servers for online play once again, and since I still have my Wii U I decided to try out Splatoon 1 in 2023 to see how it holds up compared to Splatoon 3. With many specials such as the Inkstrike and Killer Wail being overpowered, to encountering hackers in a couple online matches, does the Splatoon gameplay on the Wii U hold up compared to future titles? Watch until the end to find out!

Splat 1 still holds up incredibly well. Also they closed down the servers due to hackers stealing info. But hackers that float in the air and throw 161826 burst bombs have been in the game forever now lol
Tbh the hackers that spam specials make the game more fun, it’s hilarious being in a lobby where Killer Wails are going everywhere and everyone’s trying to team on the hacker 😂
@@RyanRhinothe hack they closed the servers for allowed hackers to have complete control of another’s system, including being able to access the microphone and camera of their gamepad. It also let them read any card info connected to the system, such as when people connect their debit cards for eShop purposes. It was a way bigger issue than people cheating in online games
to further elaborate,the hack was named ENL buffer pwn.This hack would be countered by the wonderful team at pretendo but the catch was that you needed to hack your Wii u to access it,the pretendo team also offered their beta servers towards Splatoon 1 and mario kart 8.due to this it is most probable that nintendo brought back the servers to prevent people from hacking their wii u

Yeah I’ve been aware about the info stealing since the servers shutdown a couple months ago, who knows if people are gonna find other ways around the patch to do it again though but thanks for clarifying 👍
people aren't playing "for the jokes". People like this game. I'm glad the servers are back up because I play it regularly, even though I have 3...and 2.

Favorite part of splatoon 1 is how paintable the maps were. Like 80% of the maps in splatoon 3 arent paintable

As someone who barely started Splatoon 1 a week ago I can confidently say I’ve ran into several hackers. Two of which were friendly, the rest went ham, and there was even a war between two hackers (1 on each team)

You’re playing on hammerhead bridge an all of a sudden your teammates starts flying around the map, throwing a whole line of burst bombs that paint the entire map instantly and then switch to shooting charged rainmaker shots. Now you’re just stuck in the middle with someone from the other team and you two called a truce….until they blast you into next Thursday with a ton a bust bombs. Now there’s two hackers fighting in the sky while covering the whole map.
I would like to see footage of that.

The only types of hackers they probably got rid of is the ones that could mess up your WiiU just for playing with them, that’s why the maintenance took so long.

I didn’t play Splatoon 1 too much after the first year it’s been out so that’s probably why I didn’t have more coins
Fun fact: call of duty Wii U servers were permanently taken down at almost the same time as the mk8/splatoon servers went back up. A scrumptious sacrifice to squidkind

Splatoon 1 hella better than 3 imo. Better maps, better music, better artstyle, better idols, better overall vibe. Less weapons and QoL, but damn if I dont miss that game.
Also the gamepad was perfect for the game, I hate opening the map and it taking up my whole screen on Splatoon 3
@@RyanRhino True, true. I think Splatoon 3 is a great game but I'm just hella nostalgic. And, well, the game did kinda drop the ball for the maps, and a good chunk of the music I just don't fuck with.
Splatoon 1 is the best game for pure fun, splat 2 and 3 are far better for competetive, all are great

I was tempted so many times to get this game, but I always remember the hackers doing that thing with the burst bombs and pulling the fill bucket tool (art program reference) trick on the whole map and I didn’t wanna deal with that 😂
From the matches I’ve played on-camera and off-camera it seems like you get a hacker like once every 10-15 matches, so if you were gonna play the game it’ll probably be rare finding players who do that
i still play the game unironically as well as 3, as both are fun for their own reasons. i funnily enough use splat 1 to reduce rage i get while playing splat 3.
also, i have still to this day never encountered a hacker in any of the splatoon games.
I probably got really lucky to have a hacker in the lobby because I can’t imagine a lot of people hacking their Wii U’s so they can destroy Splatoon 1 lobbies, it just sounds dumb

This is the first time I see myself appearing in a Splatoon 1 video. I've been playing this game since the online service came back, and I don't regret it, the only thing I don't like is when I meet a hacker, unless if is a silly hacker who just makes some random mods to the game 😅
It’s always funny seeing that people in my matches were somehow able to find my videos, but GG’s and I respect the Splatoon 1 grind 💪🦏
I got the Wii U and Splatoon 1 (after mine originally broke) just a DAY before the servers went back up. I was expecting to have to wait months for the servers, but it's back! The game holds up well, i love the old maps and i especially love the specials. It makes it feel like a whole, brand new game if compared to Splatoon 3.
Getting hackers are rare, so far I'm level 10 and only have found 1 hacker. The only issue i've had is that i can only play 3-4 matches at the same time before my Wii U claims the connection isn't working, when it very well is...
Yeah even if you’ve played the other Splatoon games I still think Splatoon 1 is totally worth checking out since the Wii U was the perfect console for the game, glad you’re enjoying it though 👍

I dont think it was unbalanced. There were easy weapons and Hard ones. U just need to be good with them. The specials were OP, yes. But all of them were broken to some extend. Nowadays in 2 and 3 they r just lame. I dont say there werent good and Bad weapons. But overall i wouldnt call the game unbalanced.

I still play Splatoon 1 like daily but I never saw a hacker in game. Literally rank battles has been dry because there aren’t a lot of people playing rank battle. And I want to see more people playing rank battle like WE NEED MORE PLAYERS!!!

I’d love to play the original but there only way I’d be able to is if they brought it to switch. That’s not happening. Splatoon 2 will have to do. Still got the jank that #1 has but VERY slightly less broken.
I never played 2 but people told me that it’s basically just Splatoon 1.5 so I guess it would be close enough to the first game
@@RyanRhino Eh, it's kinda like a Splatoon 1.5 but also kinda not. I'd say that would be more accurate to the initial launch of Splatoon 2 than the current state of the game. Especially when you start factoring in things like Octo Expansion.
I still play splatoon one regularly. Although there are quite a bit of hackers, it's still insanely fun if you find the community for it.

I’m so glad they combined the Inkopolis plaza with the Side Order DLC for the expansion pack because there was no way I was gonna pay $25 for Inkopolis alone 😂

I started playing this game when I was still a kid so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me
0:30 : It sorta was because of hackers, but not because of those hackers. There was an exploit inside Wii U and 3DS games made by Nintendo that allowed a hacker to steal NN personal info such as username and passwords. Splatoon 1 and Mario Kart 8 where victims of such exploit and so Nintendo shut down the online to fix the issue.

Since i got buy splatoon 1 i can't stop playing it, even though not many people play it it's still full of people. I even try To encounter the Statue's laugh creepypasta (not encouter it TwT) and i'm stuck with Orange and Orange blue color TwT but still i LOVE this game

I bought and finished the game not too long ago, so I hold no nostalgia to this game finshed 2 and now halfway 3, and I'm kind of at odds at how apart from the hacking you are so negative about this game. If anything the gamepad is The best way to play it and I really miss it in the other 2. Also 1 and 2 still show your levels, you don't have to connect trough the lobby for the internet, Single Player is still the best in 1 and DJ Octavio is absolutely insane in the first game!
You gotta give it more respect than shoving it off because 3 is out. It would never be there if 1 wasn't as good as it was and still is. I'm glad at least in my area in Europe I played it with almost no hackers at all. But appreciate the O.G. man, it's a good game. And I hope we get a Wii U pad for Splatoon 4 like they did gamecube controller for Smash! :)

Just played this game yesterday and the hackers will spam burst bombs and they use autofill to make the battlefield full of enemy ink hahaha would love to play Splatoon 3 but I dont really like the switch waiting for the next model of the switch hopefully it’s gonna be backward compatible with splatoon 3 and better hardware
I wouldn’t be surprised if they just do like a “Wii U” for the Switch and make a Switch 2, I think you’re better off waiting for the next console instead of buying a switch this late in its lifecycle

Very underrated game in my opinion. I mainly played it in 2015 and 2016 but i also started replaying a couple of rounds last year. Hackers became much more common, yeah but i think when u dont play ranked it doesnt matter at all, and it adds more variety to the normal game. So i always thought its funny to see someone use hacks. Like it doesnt happen every game. i think back in the day u had like a 0,5% chance to meet a hacker and now its like a 5% Chance. So i would assume it happens like every 20 games. So its not that annoying in my opinion. The devs also made it so u cannot get spawntrapped so it doesnt get frustrating at all. Im actually very happy to see, that the online mode is still playable and i check on it once every year. So today was the day. The game feels very nostalgic, and i would rather play this title then the other 2 Splatoon sequels. The ultimates and weapons are way better in the first game in my opinion. And also the playerbase is not that sweaty like in 2 and 3. It feels like there are still a lot of kids playing this game and sometimes u meet very good players, but its also prty rare. I think its like old call of duty was supposed to be.
The only thing i really miss are the splatfests and that u cannot buy the clothes u want from the stores but have to fkn wait an entire day to have to rotation changed and with 200+ items have the tiny chance that u get the missing piece u need. Or hope that someone uses it only. (which they never do)

What? The Max Level is 50. But there is no max Player points. The points u can make per round are not limited. And if u mean "whats the peak of the playerbase" on a surrten daytime so u can find matches. Try to play when its daytime in Japan. Or maybe even NA and EU. The most players come from those 3 regions. Especially Japan. Even tho their Population is quiet low compared to NA and EU.
I feel like the people that are still playing Splatoon 1 are doing it for one of these 5 reasons
1: they are nostalgic and wanted to revisit it
2: Old maps and content that was removed from later games
3: the wacky balancing
4: to use Splatoon clientside mods because they are really easy to install in Splatoon 1
5: hacking because they don't care about their Wii u NN account anymore anyways so if it gets banned no big deal, or they are just living on the risky side.
Are people even banned on wii u? I mean there is not even a report system. Why would Nintendo care.
@@MettMacher in recent months I've gotten pretty familiar with modding Splatoon 1, as well as what gets you banned and doesn't. Nintendo has the system pretty automated, if you get desynchronized from the servers, use a static.pack file edit, use unobtainable gear, or use hacks that I'm not quite sure how Nintendo detects, it's a ban no matter what. The problem is since the system is automated there is so much antiban software for Splatoon 1 that Nintendo's efforts are seemingly worthless. You have software that can prevent sending match logs or prevent memory checking, as well as preventing other stuff idk enough about.

But for real when did u even play this game? When u were 4 or wut? 2017 the Switch came out and all the splatfests in 1 were over. So u missed the golden times of Splatoon 1 bro. U dont even know how it feels to play 1 weekend straight just to make ur Team win with this epic music and stuff. That was the best part of splatoon imo. And also when the results came out. That feeling was crazy.

I think for the most part if you encounter a hacker in a lobby they aren’t going to be the ones that steal your info, but you’ll still come across ones that spam specials and do some crazy stuff in matches

Nah bruv. Name 3 reasons why its Better. Graphics and salmon run aside and some small improvements aside. Maps in 3 r trash. New gammodes r trash. They still havent really changed the map cycle system which would have been a great change. They didnt change the Pier to Pier System so the connection is still trash, what would ve been a great change. Storymode is whack in 3. The new weapons and ults r trash. The community in 3 is trash and sweaty af. Which is not the case in spaltoon 1. Music in 1 was better. I could go on and on with that...
