The best part about Splatoon 1 was that you hugged your splattling when you won (they should bring that back to Splatoon 3, at least for the mini splattling. That’d just be so nice)

ngl all the splatoon 1 animations were better than 2 imo, the splatling and slosher ones are my faves

I got into Splatoon a year late and unfortunately had no internet at the time, so I spent so many hours in single player 100% it and even did all the amiibo level challenges. I eventually experienced online play with a hotspot but it was not that good and would get disconnected sometimes.
Splatoon truly made summer special for me, just thinking about it is giving me nostalgia flashbacks. Sometimes I wish I could relive that experience for the first time again.
Literally same with me for Splatoon 2. I completed campaign and then I went into online matches
I was introduced to 1 by a friend and even after 2 I still prefer 1 but my gamepad isnt working right, and its hard to get matches in 1, very excited for splat 3 though cuz it looks like a good mix of the 2 styles of splatoon gameplay
Whenever it's a certain kind of weather that was the same way it was when I first played splatoon 2 a wave of nostalgia hits me. I wish there was a mode where you could just walk around all of inkopolis

I got splatoon at launch and being 16 with no other responsibilities except band camp, that may have been one of my best summers ever.
I really wish they would add "danger" or something like "careful" as an option because just the normal two options don't really satisfy me

The better game, at least in terms of fun. I miss blasters being a functional weapon class. Surprised at the lack of QR compared to S+
I agree! I struggled a lot because when I got Splatoon I was in an area with no wifi access so I was stuck in the single player for quite a while. Once I got online and Splatoon 2 recently I've gotten a lot more into the game, even getting S rank recently! This community is a lot of fun and I'm glad to be a part of it :)
bamboozerls were actually used in high ranks in splatoon 1, with the infamous full strenght up gear

I wish I got this game when it came out but I never did get it, the way I got into splatoon was literally just watching the FGTV videos and then I got splat 2, THEN splat 1 lol.
instead of paying for nintendo online, i put myself through the pain of occasionally playing splatoon 1. and yes the wait times are like 5 times the length of a game. its fun times
I'm in the same situation. I have a switch but I refuse to pay for such a bad online service and so I still play mk8 and splatoon 1 on my wii u since those have free online

I remember playing this game. I wasn’t a very combat proficient teammate so I would run around covering the ground people overlooked in our color
That makes you far more useful than a team mate who super-jumps to allies in combat and immediately dies

The splatoon 1 queue times have been a lot faster lately and I think everyone is just trying to relive the nostalgia while waiting for 3 to come out

God damn I miss this game. 2 is great and I finally got to play online recently after never being able to touch it because my switch didn't agree with my old wifi, but 1 definitely felt more fun. The specials specifically just felt so much more impactful and seemed to have a lot more kill potential than in 2. That said I still love 2 and being able to finally play online gave me a blast of nostalgia that I felt for 1.

I played Splatoon 1 a few days ago and i couldn't find even a single complete lobby.
The only time i could play online was in 3 players where a hacker kept killing me and my teammate by coloring the entire map and using an infinite kraken hack.
European servers are pretty dead.
same here. can't get into any game, the lobby times out before it gets full every time... Unless you're a really low rank

DAMN luna blaster was so much more broken than I thought! I mean blasters are still not balanced, clash blasters are ridiculously powerful and a lot of the others are stillpretty powerful as well, but splatoon 1 blasters were on another LEVEL of broken!
This brings me back to when I watched Jays old videos, man, how much we’ve all grown.
Moray towers is one of the best maps for me and hope they continue to bring it into future games

This made me nostalgic for when I first bought the Wii U for Splatoon. It came packaged with it... The amount of time I spent grinding for upgrades and ranks in elementary and middle was way too much.

I actually just got back into playing Splatoon 1 about three weeks ago after not playing any Splatoon at all for over three years. And goddamn it’s still fun as hell.
I'm trying to complete all the goals I've had for this game since I got Splatoon 1 back sometime in early 2016, which means I'll probably be playing this game daily for at least a year. I'm somewhat concerned about the potentially limited lifespan that 3DS/Wii U online has left, especially with the upcoming eShop closures next March, but I don't think Nintendo will pull the plug on it that soon. Realistically I'd say DS/Wii U online's probably got at least another year of life after March 2023.
Dude nothing beats the original, splatoon 1 is the best
It's been some years since I've played the first game, but I always liked the first game more than 2.
The verticality of the game is part of what made it unique compared to other games in the genre. In the first game, you could ink up most vertical surfaces, but in 2 they changed the level design so only a few walls could be inked.
Also in 2, you charge up ultimates faster so you get them more often, but at the cost of them being weaker (obviously). I preferred the less frequent but bigger ults from the first game.
Yeah, now that you say that, I was surprised at how few walls you could ink in 2. It felt like you were more restricted in where you could move.

I just realized that I never really noticed, cared or took advantage of the abilities. I always just made myself look cool. So much pain could've been avoided but it made me really good lol

I remember playing this game all day in the summer holidays after my 11+ entrance exams. This is up there with Minecraft and the other godly games. They should also definitely bring back the OG ( non gagged ) rainmaker. That was REALLY fun to use.
Yes! The splatoon one rainmaker was so much fun and you could actually use it as a weapon. Now i avoid picking up the rainmaker unless I have to.
@@TheLethalOtter I used to be a god with the old splatoon rainmaker. It was my weapon when I played ranked. I was so good with it that I dropped like 30 kills whenever I had it. Ahhh fun times

7:30 '56+24 doesn't equal 100' of course it doesn't, but there is no way you inked 100% of the entire stage. there were certainly sections of ground that hadn't been inked at all. one team inked 24% of the stage, the other inked 56% of the stage. the other 20% of the stage was un-inked. In fact, it's nearly impossible to get to 100% in three minutes (or 5, for that matter)

Played a bit of ranked because i knew turf would be no fun and full of hackers. but i got bored and decided to play a bit of good old turf war. first game? the ink was silver and gold. finalfest in splatoon 1 lmao. Splatoon unplayable unless you play offline or ranked.:(
