    As somebody who lives in south western Georgia and I travel all over southern Georgia, almost every single time I go through a smaller town, you will see cops at every corner, hiding behind buildings, sitting next to speed limit changes. People will always tailgate me going through these cities because I go 1 MPH under. They are brutal and are quick to pull over. I’ve traveled and lived in 33 states and Georgia is hands down the worst.

    • @msomething3579

      Little town of Casselberry in central Florida didn't use to have any property taxes, instead the police station had a drive up window just like a bank for people to pay fines. They had one of their school zones on a busy road that was 10 mph for nearly two miles, twice a day for an hour and forty five minutes. Police liked to sit at the south end watching the "End School Zone" sign which was nearly a mile past the school. If you were going 15mph 15 feet before that sign, you got pulled over and ticked for speeding in a school zone.

      @@stevepope6095 we are all proud of you for following the speed limit. I’m sure you can purchase a patch or medal online for that and display it in your dash of your car so the rest of us that didn’t read this can also know you are just a stellar individual.
      For context, I have also never received a speeding ticket or ticket for anything period but the fact that I feel that I have to go under the speed limit to avoid being pulled over, and cops in Georgia can give you a DUI even if you are under the limit because they “feel like” you were less safe is insane to me. Since they have implemented these measures it hasn’t reduced behaviors significantly, or fatalities. So they are doing nothing that helps the community in a meaningful way. The fact that I’m afraid to drive even normal within the limits of the law around GA police is the problem I have. Police are here to protect and serve their communities, not fund their cities through excessive ticketing.

      There's also the city hood movement, GA have way too many cities. Oh no! I would say that Georgia's main problem is that they have way too many cities. When they're clearly not cities.
      This means it costs more to maintain these areas.
      Personally, I think cities should only be metropolitans. If they are not a statistical Metro then they are not a city, they're a town.
      Georgia should at least divide it into three distinct areas Cities, Towns, Villages and should delegate these three distinct qualifications as what municipality role they can play.
      Most of these areas should be considered an unincorporated areas. I always thought it was weird how like Georgia has cities that are less than even two square miles. And that you can grant city hood for under a thousand people.
      Absorbing counties won't really do anything with that. There was talks about making some counties combine. They haven't done that in a long time, a few years ago.
      When you look at these towns that they mention they don't have enough population to tax.

Also how do you think that your local city or county or town manager gets paid six figures? The interstate belongs to the Federal Government. First priority belongs to the US Military. As it happened once in Kentucky, a military convoy was stopped for speeding and there was a lead and tail vehicles were equipped with Blue Beacons. Well the convoy was on a timetable to get from one base to another. Well the sheriff was being a loudmouth towards the officer in charge to the point that he called MP's who arrested the sheriff and took him prisoner with the convoy. He was held over a month until he was found guilty by a military court for interfering with a military operation.
      As for the camera issue, the city of Columbus Ohio banned them since there was a private company profiting from the camera citations.

    I can’t speak for those other towns but you need to look into Kennesaw. You never see the police there do anything other than running traffic enforcement. The real scam happens after you are issued a citation. The magistrate is contracted by the city to over see their traffic court. The magistrate is actually a Cobb county superior court judge that is paid by the city of Kennesaw directly to run their traffic court twice a month. So there is a very clear conflict of interest for the judge. It makes fighting any ticket almost impossible.

    • @MiddlePath007
      @MiddlePath007 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A conflict of interest is when a party has a benefit in ruling one way or the other. So if the judge owns a company and it's competitor is on trial, it would benefit the judge to not rule in favor of his company's competitor. What interest is in conflict in your example?

    • @SuperTrb0
      @SuperTrb0 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Are you learning disabled? Not trying to be funny just asking since you can’t grasp how a judge who is contracted by a city to run their traffic court has an self serving interest to rule in favor of the city cops ticket after ticket to ensure that his contract is extended by the city next year. A judge who was contracted by the city and tossed frivolous and excessive tickets, ruling against the city isn’t likely to get a contract renewal.

Want to trick people into a lie, do low tax on groceries and gas and offset those costs in other areas like a higher business registration fee. The citizens is none the wiser and they'll brag they live in a low tax state to boot. Or a better strategy is sell some government service like auto registration to the private sector like they do here in Arizona to keep costs lower. The citizens will be none the rise that they're technically still paying a tax but it's rebranded as a fee and going to a private company instead.

    In the 90's and early 2000's a municipality in suburban KC, the town of Mission, KS, was doing exactly this. The source of the practice was the elected officials that had made some really bad financial decisions. At it's height, around 20% of their budget came from fines. I lived in a municipal community adjacent to Mission (Just out of their reach). A group of 5 men including some residents and business owners began to fight back. By 2005 the entire town council and police leadership had been replaced and the practice stopped. The residents really stepped up and used their votes to fix the issue!
    KS ranks 6th on the list. No communities in KS that I reviewed back then came anywhere close to the 35% established under GA law. Cannot even imagine....

    Once I got my second speeding ticket for 15 miles over my actual speed (I was doing 8 miles over) I decided to request a Trial. They came unglued at the court house at first and threatened me with a larger find and penalties (NOT LAWFUL), but I insisted and three times not I have had my ticket cancelled. They dont want the cost of a trial...they just want your submission and money. THIS IS A GREAT POST!!!! I want more!!! Lets stop them. Daddy's Home!

      This is the true spirit of resistance. I always opt for a full jury trial when I get a ticket. Superior Court does not want to waste judicial time and resources for municipal revenue raising schemes. I never opt for a bench trial, as the municipal judge is part of the revenue raising scheme.

One thing I like about Macon, is their shortage of police. Whenever a city has too many police, they always run out of things to do and start making up reasons to entertain themselves, by terrorizing the citizens. I just want to live in peace 🤷🏽

    My husband got a $100 citation in the mail for going 8 miles over through Tallulah Falls while we were on the way to a family vacation in Tennessee. We were going with the flow of traffic at the time and he did slow down the minute he looked down and noticed everyone else was over. My husband is usually an extremely careful driver and tries to stay within the limit at all times. We almost got rear ended when he slowed to the speed limit.
    We will NEVER visit Tallulah Falls now, or even drive through it ever again. And we used to visit the gorge a few times a year and spend lots of money in the local area. I hope they enjoy that $100 because it’s the last penny they’ll ever see from us.
