    Here is a tip, remove the oil filler cap from the tank when draining the oil. It will drain faster.

      Helps even more if the oil is changed immediately after a ride. Oil flows faster when hot.

    You’re supposed to pour oil in the filter before it goes back on. Prolly a good idea too to leave the drain hose off and wait until oil is coming out to out it back on to force air out.

    Have you had any issues with your primary chane making a ticking noise at startup or rising steady slow speeds

    • @ChrisBassettTV
      @ChrisBassettTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Marla! Sportsters are noisy bikes by nature but tightening the chain to spec and changing the oil and filling to full might help any excess noise. If the noise is really loud you might have a broken tooth or debris in the case. I had a little bit of metal shavings on the magnetic plug from chain and Sprocket wear. I also noticed that my foot shifter was loose and changing gears was crunchy, so I cleaned and tightened that. Hopefully that gives you a few places to look, thanks for the comment!

      @ChrisBassettTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mr. Boyd! I really appreciate the positive feedback, I’m glad the video was helpful! As for your question, Harley Davidson recommends SAE 20w-50 oil for all weather conditions, below 40 degrees SAE 10w40 and above 80 degrees SAE 60 H-D. If your bike is air cooled like mine might be worth putting in the heavier oil during the hottest months

      3 if it's an Evo engine. It holds 3.5 but only top up three after a change. 3.5 is into a brand new engine build with no existing fluids.

    I have used super crap oil in my lawn mower and turned black after a couple of mowings and as far as fram filters if you pay 30 grand + each for a couple race engines you NEVER use fram crap again either !!

    • @ChrisBassettTV
      @ChrisBassettTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct! that's a typo on my side. I'm taking my information from my Clymer Harley-Davidson Manual. 86-90, 91-93 and 94-03 have different oil drain hose configurations. I appreciate the catch, Thank you.

    Only problem I have with this video is that, if you used the old oil on the new filter seal, you are applying contaminated oil with metal shavings to a rubber seal. Always use clean new oil to the seal.

    The oil that you're using junk the filter junk. When you unclamp the hose why don't you take out the dipstick it'll flow faster instead of creating a vacuum. And you always put fresh clean oil on the new rubber on the filter not old oil.

    No, No...From the manual " pour about 4 fluid ounces of fresh, clean oil into the new oil filter. Allow time for the oil to soak into the filter element. Partially fill oil filter before installation to minimize the time required for build-up of oil pressure when the engine is started."...ref: 2003 Harley-Davidson Owner's Manual, Sportster Models, Engine Oil and Oil Filter, page 96
