    Great video! Heres an important tip.....The correct level is with the bike leveled too. With the bike on the kick stand, you will have fluid coming out of the inspection cover.
    If you drain the bike while on the kick stand. Drain from the plug first and the inspection plate will not leak. Just make sure you fill with the bike level. Keep the videos coming!

    Hey Chris, thanks for you video super helpful. I do have a question. On this model Sportster which I have. Is there any other spot to change transmission fluid at? I changed my engine oil and filter, I’m about to do the primary like you just did in the video. Is there another spot to change? My buddy says there are 3 areas to change fluid/oil? What am I missing?

      Hey Matt! Thanks for the feedback, helps out the channel. Your primary case holds “transmission” fluids (wet clutch system) and is one and the same on these Sportster models. If it’s rough shifting first thing I would look at is fluid levels…. Rubber seal was leaky, lol. There is a drain plug on the bottom and the case cover gives access to the clutch and refill area. The only 3 fluids are motor oil, primary oil and brake fluid. Maybe newer bikes with a lot of features have multiple fluid reservoirs, but my 2000 Sportster is basic, so it’s system is simple. I also have a belt drive and not a chain so no grease is needed there, just routine belt maintenance.

      That’s what I was thinking. I have an 02 Sportster 883, so I should be all set just changing the engine oil and primary. Thanks man I appreciate it!

      Most people are referring to your oil reservoir tank as the 3rd location, not completely necessary but if you want you can pull the hose and start the motor for a few seconds to purge the old oil out till new fresh oil start coming through, in my opinion that little bit of old oil isn’t gonna make that big a difference tho it’s completely up to you.

    Do I take the cover off to check the level I'd ok?

    • @ChrisBassettTV
      @ChrisBassettTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sandra! Yes. Take the cover off to check the fluid level. Make sure the bike is perfectly upright also, if it’s only on the kickstand it will be tilted enough to give inaccurate measurements. I actually had a small leak on the clutch fitting that goes into case. I had to replace the cable and fitting.

      @@ChrisBassettTV I heard that you don't need to take the derby cover off because it is 1 quart of oil added to the primary.
