Literally... he deactivated all the fences except the raptors because he thought all the other dinos were too stupid to be a threat in the 20 minute heist he was committing. Then he gets killed by one of the most primitive dinosaurs in the park.
It was just bad luck (bad for Nedry), then bad for everyone else as a result of his bad luck, and greed. His greed did not cause his bad luck though. The bad luck was all on its own.

Though the movie is scientifically inaccurate it was done on purpose according to Spielberg, in reality Dilophosaurus was about 10 feet tall and around 800lbs as a fully grown adult but Spielberg didn't want the audience to conflate the Dilophosaurus with the Velociraptors and since the Raptors we're generally considered the main antagonist of Jurassic park he opted to make them larger and more menacing than they actually we're and based them largely off of the Deinonychus which is essentially what is shown as a Velociraptor in Jurassic Park.

Dilophosaurus' distinguishing physical characteristics include the dual crests on top of its head (NO NECK FRILL! This scene always scared me as a kid especially after reading the novel and its true gruesome details knowing what happens to him while being eaten in the car and the fact that usually in horror movies they add like scary music or something for the jumpscare to add a buffer for the audience this scene has no music just thunder, lightning, rain and his screams of terror as he’s being killed truly one of the most horrifying scenes in the whole movie
The can of Barbasol was buried in the mud like the mosquito in the sap, containing the DNA samples here stolen. Perhaps, the can containing the samples could be retrieved years from now to reproduce the same error. This is how I understand this scene.
Dodgson said there was only enough coolant in the can for 36 hours and after that the embryos were no longer viable. Doesn't mean that they couldn't be used with future tech but as it was, those embryos looked pretty doomed.
To me I feel to this day even though Nedry was a slimeball and ignorant of the danger he put everyone in, I feel sorry for him in a great sense for two reasons. #1- He was an engineer that felt like he was being taken advantage of and being underpaid, and correct me if I'm wrong but when haven't we all felt like that at one point? Especially in today's economy. Also on this point, I don't think he was maliciously trying to put everyone in harm's way, I just think he didn't think things through enough with his plan when he stole the embryos to make the rest of his money, definitely not condoning what he did, it was wrong and also a felony, should have gotten prison time for it. #2 Most importantly, to me when he gets his jeep stuck, it's right in the park, and he didn't realize the danger lurking out there so the fact that he was doing all he could to get his jeep unstuck in the rain in the middle of the night, he did all he could. The last part of this whole point and I'm hoping people understand this and look at this differently, I've been in the situation of running into a car door and knocking myself out and falling on the ground, so when I see this movie, brings back a painful and embarrassing moment, especially when I hear his fear and his pain crying out, cause remember something people, he's an engineer, he doesn't know how to defend himself out there, he's been blinded by the poison spit and he's trying to get away, I just feel for the guy, he's terrified to death and I just feel so bad for him. Sometimes the worst enemies can still make you realize that they really are only human when they get hurt. Dennis Nedry was only just human.
I guess I can say in your case a little sorry for him but nevertheless, he was greedy, and he put, regardless of his intention, all those lives in danger for his own personal greed, including himself. So to put it this way he wasn’t any better than anyone else. The fact that he was willing to risk it all even at regardless of the intention put others lives in danger just shows that he was impatient and should’ve been more patient with this financial situation but instead before he even had that talk about his finances with Hammon when he refused to pay him a bonus, for his work resorted to the criminal activity, which was in and of Itself wrong. So I have to say I didn’t feel too. Sorry for this character in the story but one can understand his financial hardship he was dealing with though it did not excuse his criminal actions, or whether or not it was criminal still he stole and put the whole park at risk. In fact, it’s interesting how he was an engineer As well as a hacker because he how to do it. It’s all understandable, despite not excusable.
He was obviously a malcontent and in debt. He’s very fat, which is a sign of a lack of self-control. Even Hammond implies that Nedry’s money problems are of his own making. If Nedry or any other employee was underpaid it would have been mentioned or implied in the movie.
Some of it is the invention of the film. In the novel he was underpaid (although it is implied he's the lowest bidder, being mostly fresh out of college) and blackmailed to do extra work for nothing. Dodgson had come to him with an offer, but even then, Nedry had the foresight to secretly record the meeting in case they double-crossed him Though it is only slightly touched on here, he did actually plan his heist meticulously, knowing how much of a window he had to get to the East Dock and back and be able to fix the apparent computer problems like a hero while covering his tracks. He had even done some practice runs so he knew how long the drive was. Unfortunately the tropical storm threw a curveball in his plans... chaos theory as Ian Malcolm was hinting at... so he could never return to deactivate his program. In the novel he got lost and was going to give up, return to the Visitor Centre and try another day - unfortunately that's when the Dilophosaurus attacked.
0:09 to 0:14 is almost comedic lol. They panicked sawing of the wheel, the hopeless attempt to brake to crashing through the fence and getting stuck lol.

@Hank Clock It's not the face, it's just that he (Dennis) should not have put up his rain jacket hood because the Dilophosaurus thought he was a giant Dilophosaurus wanting to challenge it and throwing the stick to fetch felt like a challenge and when the Dilophosaurus put up it's own hood it was saying "I accept the challenge." If Dennis didn't put up his rain jacket hood, the Dilophosaurus wouldn't have followed him back to his jeep.

Somehow Nedry's death in the book is even more horrifying. The Dilophosaurus for one is larger than man size. He is blinded after being spit on a couple times, but the dinosaur rips Nedry's guts out before biting his head off while he is still alive.
I have a theory: After the San Diego incident in the lost world, Ingen was ordered by the UN to release all documents surrounding the 1993 massacre & the 1994 clean up. And when Nedry’s family was informed about his corpse being discovered by the clean up crew; They demanded that the company pay Wrongful death compensation to them but of course Ingen refused, Sighting his responsibility for the sabotage of the park & stealing embryos from them with the intention of selling them off to a rival corporation. But they countered by arguing that despite his actions, the dinosaurs were there responsibly & they knew the dangers that came with bringing them back to life; but they didn’t listen or care about the warnings And even claiming that they had intentionally disregarded employee safety for the sake of Profit. And so they sued the company for wrongful death, Criminal negligence & conspiracy; and eventually in may of 1999, 2 years after the San Diego incident & 6 years after his death, Nedry’s family was awarded $10,000,000 in wrongful death compensation.

It's a winch. Once it is switched on the vehicle will be pulled towards the tree therefore towards the road.

This scene always scared me as a kid especially after reading the novel and its true gruesome details knowing what happens to him while being eaten in the car and the fact that usually in horror movies they add like scary music or something for the jumpscare to add a buffer for the audience this scene has no music just thunder, lightning, rain and his screams of terror as he’s being killed truly one of the most horrifying scenes in the whole movie

My friend Lee always thinks he is the Nedry and he performs this scene at home by using his jeep.
We said this in our commentary of this movie, but shocked when the dilophosaurus attacks Nedry, that blood didn’t explode on the windows.

The can of Barbasol was buried in the mud like the mosquito in the sap, containing the DNA samples here stolen. Perhaps, the can containing the samples could be retrieved years from now to reproduce the same error. This is how I understand this scene.
No, Dodgson mentions how it’s only good for so many hours. If any embryos are thawed they die.
Dodgson said there was only enough coolant in the can for 36 hours and after that the embryos were no longer viable. Doesn't mean that they couldn't be used with future tech but as it was, those embryos looked pretty doomed.
To me I feel to this day even though Nedry was a slimeball and ignorant of the danger he put everyone in, I feel sorry for him in a great sense for two reasons. #1- He was an engineer that felt like he was being taken advantage of and being underpaid, and correct me if I'm wrong but when haven't we all felt like that at one point? Especially in today's economy. Also on this point, I don't think he was maliciously trying to put everyone in harm's way, I just think he didn't think things through enough with his plan when he stole the embryos to make the rest of his money, definitely not condoning what he did, it was wrong and also a felony, should have gotten prison time for it.
#2 Most importantly, to me when he gets his jeep stuck, it's right in the park, and he didn't realize the danger lurking out there so the fact that he was doing all he could to get his jeep unstuck in the rain in the middle of the night, he did all he could. The last part of this whole point and I'm hoping people understand this and look at this differently, I've been in the situation of running into a car door and knocking myself out and falling on the ground, so when I see this movie, brings back a painful and embarrassing moment, especially when I hear his fear and his pain crying out, cause remember something people, he's an engineer, he doesn't know how to defend himself out there, he's been blinded by the poison spit and he's trying to get away, I just feel for the guy, he's terrified to death and I just feel so bad for him. Sometimes the worst enemies can still make you realize that they really are only human when they get hurt. Dennis Nedry was only just human.
This is nothing. His death in the book was far more gruesome.
I guess I can say in your case a little sorry for him but nevertheless, he was greedy, and he put, regardless of his intention, all those lives in danger for his own personal greed, including himself. So to put it this way he wasn’t any better than anyone else. The fact that he was willing to risk it all even at regardless of the intention put others lives in danger just shows that he was impatient and should’ve been more patient with this financial situation but instead before he even had that talk about his finances with Hammon when he refused to pay him a bonus, for his work resorted to the criminal activity, which was in and of Itself wrong. So I have to say I didn’t feel too. Sorry for this character in the story but one can understand his financial hardship he was dealing with though it did not excuse his criminal actions, or whether or not it was criminal still he stole and put the whole park at risk. In fact, it’s interesting how he was an engineer As well as a hacker because he how to do it. It’s all understandable, despite not excusable.
He was obviously a malcontent and in debt. He’s very fat, which is a sign of a lack of self-control. Even Hammond implies that Nedry’s money problems are of his own making. If Nedry or any other employee was underpaid it would have been mentioned or implied in the movie.
Some of it is the invention of the film. In the novel he was underpaid (although it is implied he's the lowest bidder, being mostly fresh out of college) and blackmailed to do extra work for nothing. Dodgson had come to him with an offer, but even then, Nedry had the foresight to secretly record the meeting in case they double-crossed him Though it is only slightly touched on here, he did actually plan his heist meticulously, knowing how much of a window he had to get to the East Dock and back and be able to fix the apparent computer problems like a hero while covering his tracks. He had even done some practice runs so he knew how long the drive was. Unfortunately the tropical storm threw a curveball in his plans... chaos theory as Ian Malcolm was hinting at... so he could never return to deactivate his program. In the novel he got lost and was going to give up, return to the Visitor Centre and try another day - unfortunately that's when the Dilophosaurus attacked.
Don't worry look and the bright side, he's a real person and has 15Millon Dollars of voice acting, and plus, none of this stuff is real! Ok.🥲

@Hank Clock It's not the face, it's just that he (Dennis) should not have put up his rain jacket hood because the Dilophosaurus thought he was a giant Dilophosaurus wanting to challenge it and throwing the stick to fetch felt like a challenge and when the Dilophosaurus put up it's own hood it was saying "I accept the challenge." If Dennis didn't put up his rain jacket hood, the Dilophosaurus wouldn't have followed him back to his jeep.

Somehow Nedry's death in the book is even more horrifying. The Dilophosaurus for one is larger than man size. He is blinded after being spit on a couple times, but the dinosaur rips Nedry's guts out before biting his head off while he is still alive.

I have a theory: After the San Diego incident in the lost world, Ingen was ordered by the UN to release all documents surrounding the 1993 massacre & the 1994 clean up. And when Nedry’s family was informed about his corpse being discovered by the clean up crew; They demanded that the company pay Wrongful death compensation to them but of course Ingen refused, Sighting his responsibility for the sabotage of the park & stealing embryos from them with the intention of selling them off to a rival corporation. But they countered by arguing that despite his actions, the dinosaurs were there responsibly & they knew the dangers that came with bringing them back to life; but they didn’t listen or care about the warnings And even claiming that they had intentionally disregarded employee safety for the sake of Profit. And so they sued the company for wrongful death, Criminal negligence & conspiracy; and eventually in may of 1999, 2 years after the San Diego incident & 6 years after his death, Nedry’s family was awarded $10,000,000 in wrongful death compensation.
