      The sound department knocked it out of the park when they created the calls of the dinosaurs. Blending known animals together to create something entirely new. I can hear at least two of the animals for the T-Rex clearly. One is a lion, the other, an elephant.
      Dilophosaurus's chittering noise was apparently a goose or swan call. Speaking of those, props to the design team for including the neck frills on the little guy. You didn't know what it was going to do, but when it opened the frill and let out that constant, angry cry, you knew Nedry was going to die. Spielberg is such a master storyteller. The Jurassic World directors would have added tons of music and comic relief to the scene, and in doing so breaking most of the tension. There's tons of comic relief in this scene alone, with Gennaro's comment about the power, him running away and hiding in the bathroom, and Malcolm wiping the condensation from the windshield while the kids are getting attacked. The true craftsmanship is the fact that all these comedic beats don't break the tension of the scene. I also think it's unfair to compare any of the sequels to the original. The original is lighting in a bottle, one of the greatest movies ever made. Comparing any movie to that is unfair and an unrealistic standard for any movie to have put on it.

      I was 10. I remember there was a child behind us (probably a toddler) *crying* out of *terror* every time the T-rex was on screen.
      In *The Lost World,* the audience literally *cheered* and *applauded* when the first raptor jumped out of the long grass and again when the credits rolled. *It'd been THAT SPECTACULAR!*
      Personally, I feel sorry for those who only got to experience *JP3* or the *Jurassic World* movies in the cinemas.

    I just love how Jurassic Park is one of the most rewatchable films ever. I have watched this film dozens of times in my life...and it never really gets old or boring, even when I know exactly what is going to happen next. Its incredible how one film from 1993 still has as much thrills as when it first came out, than 99% of films that have come out in the 30 years since. I'd list it as one of the top 10 movies ever, certainly the top dinosaur film ever, hands down.

He also doesn't have to rely on action to keep people interested: his movie Bridge of Spies is chock full of tension and suspense. One of the greatest scenes in film history. The fact that the T-Rex still looks far more real & convincing than the CGI sh!t in the latest release in the franchise is truly astonishing. What gets me every time (and I've seen this scene at least 50 times since the 90's) is when Lex leaves the flashlight on and suddenly you see the T-Rex eye in the frame and the pupil contracts because of the bright light. • @bad_puns
      @bad_puns ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@ASDAPOI there is still quite a lot of cgi in this scene, most notably whenever the t-rex is shown walking, because the insane animatronic t-rex they built could not walk. in my opinion there are two reasons the jurassic park cgi looks so much more realistic than the cgi in most other movies.
      first, the events portrayed using cgi are not particularly unrealistic or over the top, so it doesn't take much to convince you they are real. the t-rex pushes the car over (which takes multiple pushes) and bites off a tire. if this movie came out today the t-rex would pick up the entire car in it's mouth as one piece and throw it 1000 feet into the air, where it would fly in slow motion for 30 seconds before hitting a tree and exploding into a giant fireball. no matter how good the effects are, action like that is going to look unrealistic because the events themselves are unrealistic! this scene contains much more suspense and waiting than blatant chaotic action for the sake of it.
      the second reason the cgi in this feels so realistic is that every other aspect of the movie works to sell the idea that the cgi events are real. the acting, sound design, and integration between cgi and real elements are all extremely well done and all work together to convince you that the cgi elements are real. most newer movies that have action for the sake of it do not effectively use these other elements to convince you of the effects.

      Yeah, that's something I don't like about the direction the newer movies have taken. In Jurassic Park 1 - 3 the dinosaurs were treated as though they were ancient wild animals brought to the present day through the magic of science. The newer movies try to paint them as genetic freak show monsters unlike anything that would have actually lived 65 million years ago. I mean, I get why they did it, we have learned so much more about what dinosaurs were in the past nearly 30 years since this movie came out and the best way to justify it was to say that these weren't actually dinosaurs but Frankenstein esque monsters with genetic anomalies. Still though, I miss the dinosaurs being handled like they were actual animals with real animal behavior and instinct and not psychopathic blood thirsty monsters.

    This is so refreshing to watch compared to modern "big predator attack" scenes. The T-Rex isn't unstoppably violent nor willing to risk its life to attack the main characters. It takes time for it to think that the car MIGHT be prey and as soon as biting the underside and tires tastes wrong, it stops. Comparing this to something like the V-rex scene in King Kong (2005) makes you appreciate when movies remember that animals are ANIMALS, not villains.

      @Lostmymind1 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The key to this scene is that the T-Rex isn't a monster, and it isn't a character. It's an animal, and it's decisions are based on what an animal would do in this situation.
      It comes out of the pen, and it's looking around. It doesn't quite know what to do or where to go. It honestly might have wandered off into the park had it not been for Lex and her spotlight.
      It didn't attack them because it's a a killer, it attacked them because it's an animal whose instincts are to hunt, and Lex grabbed it's attention.
      In the new movies, this scene would have somehow become a chase scene, with the T-Rex knowing exactly what to do, and that's only to kill. The brilliance of this scene is, the T-Rex has no idea what to do. She's just reacting as an animal would.
      There's a LITTLE bit of this magic in the second movie, but not like this. And after the second movie, all Jurassic magic is lost.
