ASICS, Saucony, New Balance, Hoka...they've all taken their shot at King Nike. When I got into running around 2020, every new race shoe was labeled "the AlphaFly killer" and yet, nothing ever came close. Well, the day has finally arrived (for me). Buckle up for a #shoereview and as always, a bunch of uncertified silliness

Love the review, almost as much as I love this shoe 😁 Got a slight PR in these at NYC last fall despite the weather, and just picked up another pair on sale so I can do more workouts in them leading up to fall marathon season 🙌 Keep the great videos coming!
Thank you for positivity. Congrats on the slight PR! I was surprised at how much I liked them also because BITR and other shoe tubers had nice things to say about the shoe but weren’t blown away or anything . Maybe it’s just our stride? Idk but I love them
The "slap" and the "roll" is on point. You can really know someone is running on an AF near you because of that slapping sound on the ground. But... that massive discount on those AF's are just hard to beat right now. Just had to double-up on those. Great video as always!
Yeah I do really love the AF and own multiple pairs. I buy on discount as well. Hence why I go the SC elite v3
New Balance seems to be the brand that suits me best. I absolutely love the More v4 and the RC Elite v2, I want the SC Elite v3 too. They just have to come down in price first. The RC Elite v2 doesn't feel like a really fast shoe though (compared to something like the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2), so I wonder how different the v3 feels. But I just got the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 two days ago, and that shoe is definitely something special!
Good news! The SC Elite V3 is $140 at running warehouse clearance. I didn’t run in v2 but I heard this one is snappier underfoot and faster. I will say the vaporfly is even more aggressive (for me) but it’s also tighter and not as soft so I wouldn’t take it 26 miles. Good to hear about the pro 3 . I’ve heard great things
My favorite race shoe is the RC Elite V2, so I had to try these and I feel like they did a great job in the V3. Just got two pairs because SALES, haha can't wait to race in them. Maybe they'll be my first marathon racers, still debating between these and the AP3 if they soften up.
Loving the sales . Ap2 was a bouncier and more fun ride than AP3. I have the AP3 and it’s okay. I might take it for a hilly HM but I don’t like it for marathon and not as fast as 2 (for me)
I just got these. I haven't run in them but I look forward to it. I have the vaporfly 2 , metaspeed sky plus, and adios pro 3. My Marathon PR is in adios pro 3 but I can't say its a shoe I would recommend. The sky+ and vaporfly are great at 5 and 10K's but the sky+ is harsh. My favorite supershoe, and its a boring choice, is the new balance rc elite v2. I have 0 PR's in it but it's the shoe that makes me happy when I put it on.
I’m in agreement with a lot of your thoughts on these shoes. Vaporfly 2 is amazing but tight and super aggressive. I didn’t run in rc elite 2 but I did run in the 1. I heard this one is more aggressive than the 2 . The fuel cell is soft but still bouncy and I did feel propulsion on the toe off

Without trying to be one I’m becoming a NB aficionado. Thanks to you and Kofuzi. Now I’ll have to go out and try a pair of those race shoes. I just wish you didn’t make this video in the middle of my renovations 😢 (do I need a Dewalt grinder or another pair of running shoes? )

@@MidLifeRunner I was going to. But Dewalt has a special. Buy the battery get the tool for free, that saves me like 2/3 of the money for the shoe. 😅
I've been on the fence about the New Balance but never been a fan of the Alpha fly. I ended up picking up a pair of the New Balance SC pacers and Asics magic speed 3's. Also grabbed the New Balance Fuelcell rebels v'3. I may end up with a pair of these after watching your video.
My race shoes right now is the Asics Metaspeed edge+ or the Saucony pro 3's.
Awesome! I’m thinking about buying Pro 3 and doing a “if I could only buy 1” comparing it to the adios pro 3 and SC Elite 3. New balance has my heart currently with their fuel cell line. I’ve never tried the 860 or 1080.
I also really want to run in the metaspeed edge or sky +. I’ve got well over 300 miles in the original metaspeed Sky, which is great for 13-15 miles but then is too stiff up front. I know the + series added more foam. I want to try so many shoes but I’m about to do a series through the summer “run the shoes you’re in” and I’m going to dive deeper into the ones I have and save some money while I’m at it 😂
@@MidLifeRunner I've never ran in the Metaspeed edge but the edge+ is an amazing shoe. I just bought the Asics Magic speed 3 to compliment them. I grabbed a pair of the magic speed 2's a few weeks ago and liked them enough to take a chance on the 3's and I swear they might be the best daily trainer I've ran in for speed work. I got the Saucony speed 3's and the magic speed 3 is hands down a better speed shoe. Could be the carbon plate vs the Nylon plate in the Saucony but I'm not sure how many more miles I'll put on the Saucony speeds now. Also the New Balance SC Pacer is money for track work, so light and really gets you moving.
@@JeepinNation thanks for the feedback on the shoes. I gave my Endorphin Speed 3s away to a sub because I knew I wasn’t going to put enough miles in them , that I would always reach for another shoe instead if given the choice . Cheersn

Absolutely! I like to do 200 and 300 mile reviews as well, even though not as many people watch those. The next marathon isn’t until Houston in January as we just entered a brutal summer. So, it will be a minute, but I will definitely update

During races you can definitely hear the Alphafly on other runners. I've yet to try the SC Elite v3, but I'm tempted. The midsole on the SC trainer v1 is a dream. Does the midsole on the SC Elite v3 have a similar feel?
I love SC Trainer v1 and v2. The Trainer fuel cell has more “bounce back” and it’s so heavy, that it feels GREAT at marathon pace - only it’s too heavy for 26 miles (for me).
In the Elite 3, you get more of a roll through with the 4mm drop versus the 8mm drop of the sc trainer. The foam in the heel for the SC elite v3 is softer but still responsive, just not AS bouncy. The toe off isn’t as aggressive as a vaporfly but you can feel it up front. Basically, if you like fuel cell foam, you’ll enjoy sc elite 3.

Lol I love that you keep showing some of the other side of the shoetuber/youtuber world ... "like or subscribe, it really helps the channel" .. I mean sure but lets be honest, it helps their bank account in the first place :p i admit i watch too many and get influenced by them and bought too many shoes. I like that Seth James, despite his flaws, does not make every shoe look like the best new thing ... he seems much more honest to me
Yes he spends more time really trying to nail the shoe. Outsole , midsole and upper, how it rides, what it’s good for , a step back or a step forward and also the price. I love that he covers the price
I have run all distances in the alphafly, and I don't seem to have the same issues. The only annoying issue is the sound. They are noisy. It's the pods, I think. I am a fore foot striker with slight leveling until I get tired, and then I level to midfoot. Never tried the NB.
They’re still my favorite shoe of all time. I’m a midfoot striker that levels back into more on the heel deeper into a marathon. Thanks for sharing
I'm REALLY intrigued with the NB lineup lately... obviously not intrigued enough to buy them, but perhaps later this year I'll make the switch-a-roo.... I did, however, pick up my Endorphin Speed 3 killer this week: adidas Boston 12...Mmm, pure butter!
Awesome feedback. I’m torn on the adios 8 and the Boston 12 because I like the Takumi sen. Leaning more toward Boston 12 because it provides more protection underfoot. Good at most paces ?
@@MidLifeRunner jury is out! I’ll get the first run in them this afternoon. It’s of course marketed as a daily trainer but with the dual foam and energy rods (who needs plates?!) I’m sure it’s at least ok at the half marathon and threshold runs. Probably a little too much stack, soft for 5k pace. Just initial observation.
I keep debating between this and the endorphin pro 3. But just can’t decide
I haven’t run in the pro 3 but once I can justify buying more shoes for myself instead of my children 😂, it’s next on the list. Once it goes on super discount likely and I’m going to shoot a “if I could only buy 1” between pro 3, sc elite 3 and adios pro 3

How do you find the SC Elite V3 compared to the VF3 if youve tried it... as ive heard they are like a cross between vf1 and af1 😊 ?
I haven’t tried the vF3 but I do plan on buying the AF3 Jan 4th if in stock. The elite are very light and quick. They’re not as aggressive as the VF2. They wouldn’t be a bad option for a marathon but there are also better options. I still love the shoe
I have the original SC Elite (purple), and I was always hesitant to use it in a marathon due to it being too soft underfoot for such a long distance. I really like that shoe, but I would think it being too soft underfoot would work against you. Is this newest version much different?
Yes. I loved RC Elite v1 but it didn’t have enough for the distance. This fuel cell foam has more bounce, a better plate (though not as aggressive/snappy as the vaporfly, and the energy arc energy return. Now, I feel that same energy return in SC Trainer 1 and 2. The same principle worked for the decoupled groove of the Novablast 1. If you feel good return on any of those three shoes with your landing, you likely will feel it here. That being said, it’s still softer than a vaporfly. What do you normally use the marathon distance
@MidLifeRunner I go with the Nike Vaporfly 2. I got the Vaporfly 3, and I'm very disappointed in it. I want to use a different super shoe for NYC in November, so I'm going to try the SC Elite 3. "No guts, no glory", Lol.
Big NB fan, & fan of the Boston shoes that get me to Boston (NB, Reebok, Saucony, Topo). I'm curious how the SC Elite would match up against the Alphafly 2.
Haven’t tried the Alphafly 2 so I can’t say exactly. I really like the fuel cell foam

I know you have yet to test the Endo Pro 3 but will be curious to see your comparison. With my 18 min marathon PR last time--even though training and fueling changes are undoubtedly the biggest factors- the shoe treated me so well (in the rain!) I’m sold on it. But I’d love to try this one sometime.

Yes! I’m on a “no buy” but I want to purchase AT LEAST two more pairs . One to train and one to race in
I really don’t need anymore shoes but holy I don’t think I can pass up that price which is cheaper then most daily trainer. I have a pair of the V2s and really enjoyed those and sounds like the V3 is even better looks like I will be 140$ poorer 😂😂

I edited out a vaporfly tangent. Vaporfly is snappier and more aggressive, better for half marathon for sure. Meaning, I would take vaporfly for HM but it’s a not quite enough for the full marathon for me. I heard the 3 got a little softer and can go the distance, but I only have the 2
