Andre really summed up the biggest issue with his truck with his comment about not wanting to roll the windows down and have dust get inside the beautiful cabin. Built for trails, but too nice and expensive to take on trails.
$104,000 for a truck! My God that is crazy
That was a house not to long ago!!!
Right? I paid $130,000 more for my house 4 years ago in the suburbs.
That's 25% more than my first house
Have you seen the truck? Y’all make these comments and don’t even watch the reviews. Just go around to every high dollar vehicle you can’t afford to complain about pricing.
@@G-Rated seeing the truck doesn’t make you feel better about how much it costs. It’s not always that someone can’t afford it, but rather feels like their hard earned $104,000 could be much better spent. Would you buy a $100 fast food cheeseburger just because you can afford it?
That GMC AEV truck is a beast!.
I said same thing. It took that trail like a boss
Until that section where it hit frame right? DODGE ACTUALLY COMPLETED THE COURSE...
@@Wicked_RotF30only once. Dodge is junk
Did you miss the part where it has bigger tires? lol@@Wicked_RotF30
@@Wicked_RotF30NO IT ACTUALLY DIDNT SOOOOOO
Those trucks look enormous off-road
Idk why we don't go smaller with better suspension and better turn ratio... these trucks are built to tow 😂😂
I own a ram, and that particular ram is super badass. But boy, is that GMC cool.
I think I’d rather have the Ram. A. Cummins B. Looks better C. Does just as well if not better than the GMC thanks to how well that LSD works. Yeah the GMC is more comfortable and has better tech but you could get all that on the Ram if you wanted to fork out the money.
@@JonBecker81You will not get it at the same quality that is of the GMC. Stellantis technology is not on par with *gm* and that’s no secret. Traction control is apart of that since these things are electronically controlled.
@@G-Rated not that I could afford either one of them anyway.
AT4X HD... the name sounds Ultra Heavy Duty..what a beast. Love the tall front end. Awesome video TFL
Just bought the AT4x AEV 3 weeks ago , very very happy with it. 🙂
So glad you mentioned the horrible throttle control while crawling in the ram. It's literally one of the reasons I sold mine. They gotta fix that.
I know the straight axle is supposed to be stronger too, but man that GM rides SO much better. Love the video!
A tuner will allow you to change the throttle sensitivity. I can make it where full throttle is 5% of the power.
It's junk, every Dodge/Fiat is trash bro🤷♂️
Drove a Chevrolet 2500HD ZR2 with the Duramax. Amazing! But huge! Been a while since I've driven a HD truck.
Wow the GMC is beautiful beast.
Just bought the 2024 GMC AT4 crew diesel loaded.. You get what you pay for and this truck is awesome. The cameras and the towing is the best! 32’ fifth wheel feels like nothing on the back!!
No complaints at all
I like case's logic. I too am 6 pack capable but don't come equipped with it.
If y’all haven’t tried it I’d recommend taking one of the front sway bar end links off for off-roading. I did it on my ram 2500 and it made a notable difference. It seriously improved the off-road comfort.
Same on my f350. Makes a huge difference
Or, make it fair and take power wagon, with electronic disconnects
toyota has electronic sway bar discconnect
That GMC is a beast. Great looking, powerful monster! My pick, easily.
2:13 The "six pack abs" bit is as funny as y'all have ever been!😂
Both are amazing vehicles, but if I had 100k to play with I'd go for the GMC. It's more comfortable, has better tech, and everything on it is factory warrantied
You can get the same comfort and tech in a 2500 Rebel with a warranty and it’s cheaper.
On gas models, AEV Prospectors have computer controlled features for suspension and load. They're so smooth and quiet, for having 37" mudders, my girl has no problem sleeping when we drive. You have to see for yourself...
Just got my 2024 GMC Canyon AT4 Truck - my first truck ever and my god do I love it !!! Now all I do is watch truck videos lol
The AT4X for sure!!! What a truck!
Crazy prices! The GMC is gorgeous and to me, the Ram looks the same as it did 10yrs ago.🤷♂️
I bought the AT4 in January’24 and I love it
Just bought the AT4 in March. I love it as well.
In a quarter million dollar battle to the death!!!
I'd love to see an off road test of the 1/2 ton GMC Sierra with the X31 package and the 3.0 Duramax over that same terrain.
I just bought one of those and I'd love to see them test it off road.
The Ram's rear LSD is really impressive, I thought it was a locker at first. Far better than the G80.
Helical LSD’s are pretty smooth, even the Power Wagon comes with it and ELD.
The g80 is garbage
Good thing the GM didnt have a G80 and had a proper locker rear end
@@freedomisntfree_44 Spoken like a man who ones one! (yeah...me too. I put it in the 'better than nothing' class)
GM should have put a helical LSD in the front of the AT4X and ZR2. Can’t believe they didn’t do that…
You can technically buy the AEV Ram from the factory new also. Just have to buy from an authorized AEV Ram dealer.
They are made every other year, the Chevy and dodge models. And it's the only way to get the AEV Badges on your truck.
You can walk into several Dodge/Ram Dealerships and get a Prospector XL that has the 3/36,000 factory warranty that is locked f/r, metal bumpers and 40” tires.
Those are Ram dealers who are also AEV dealers. The warranty is also through AEV and if you read the fine print is not nearly as comprehensive as a true factory warranty. No loaners, no roadside assistance, no payment deferrals, while it's getting repaired, it's not transferable. If their parts cause damage to a factory component they won't cover that either. This GMC has a full actual factory warranty that covers everything a normal new vehicle warranty does.
@@dcl97 Hi there, the GMC/AEV and/or RAM/AEV if done through the GMC or RAM dealerships still have the factory GMC and/or RAM warranty. It works the same for both. For both, AEV accessories are included on the window's sticker and insured as a whole (very expensive) insurance.
@@dcl97 Given how pathetic the factory warranty was on my 2022 Silverado 1500, it's hard to imaging it being worse! only 36K miles (hit that in a year); no loaners; etc. Aside from the overall 'eh...they all do that' mentality of GM dealers.
My gm dealer gives me a lifetime warranty on powertrain on the at4x hd aev duramax!!!
REALLY wish SOMEBODY would offer their off road set up with an 8ft BED.
You know, some people like to go off road AND actually work for a living, ie, would like to carry a piece of plywood from time to time. 😳
That Ram is such a great truck and in hind sight, it was a great deal!
Frankly, surprised they still have it. Perhaps this is the beginning of the end of its ownership. Been awhile since they put it in a video.
@@WW-wf8tu It serves other purposes off-camera.
Both impressive rigs.
As someone that does a lot of mountain hikes and has to rock crawl trails to get there. I can tell you there is no way in hell I’d take a heavy duty truck up a trail. So damn big I’d lose the paint on both sides of the truck. Even half ton trucks are getting too big
With the mirrors folded in there the same width as a half ton. I didn't believe the specs at first but it's true I measured my f150 and super duty same width. Trucks are definitely getting bigger but my superduty is narrower then chevy toyota and ram 1/2 tons. The long wheel base and height make it tough sometimes but doable. Definitely don't get a heavy duty truck if your not carrying weight though when empty they ride rougher add weight and they smooth out.
There is an AEV Bison Colorado that would do the job!
No doubt, our jeeps loose paint, my 3/4 ton, would loose more than paint. We use the 3/4 ton to tow Airstream 3-5 miles off pavement and set basecamp. It would be nice on long trips to leave the jeep at home and at least be able to slowly get fairly far back, but definitely not all the way we get the jeeps. At4x will shortly replace our 9 year old denali, as soon as recession has dealerships willing to negotiate a little
The GMC has a ton of cameras, plus it has rear lockers. The interiors are about equal. In other words, put 37s on the GMC.
Now let's see that gm vs the power wagon vs the tremor superduty
The issue is the AEV package is only offered on the 2500. Those AEV bumpers weigh 350lbs which reduces the payload. Chevy should have offered the AEV on the 3500 which has more payload.
That GMC is a beautiful truck. If I had it, I would never take it offroad. 😂
What do I think? I think if you are going OR on a frequent basis and or want to, these are not suited for that. They can get off the trail, that is for sure. They are capable to go places you would not want to daily these, but that does not make them ideal for it. That's what I think.
Great job guys keep it up 👍
“Im six pack abs capable” im dead hahaha
The GMC appeared to do this trail both easier and smoother than the Ram. Not sure what the metal pinging noises were coming from the Ram but it didn't sound very reassuring. Very impressed with the AT4X HD overall, just wish it wasn't so dang expensive.
They should have both been AEV upgrades not just one. I would hope the extra money would make it go through the course easier.
There were more noises coming from the GMC, in fact Andre made the reference “Titanic noises” coming from the GMC. He also mentioned that the GMC was very tippy. Having solid axles on the RAM makes off roading much more reassuring. IFS on the GMC is more better on road manners. I felt that the RAM did leaps better overall off road.
@@MrNismopro I would rather have a slight body groan at full articulation than the Rams metal pinging noise that literally sounded like something was breaking every time it was on a bind. Never once did the GMC look like it was in any danger of tipping. Anyone that watches TFL knows that Andre is a bit dramatic.😏It's a given that solid axles are more at home in the rocks, but pretty much everyone else including SXS's and desert race trucks are using IFS for everything else. Despite having smaller tires and less lift the GMC still made smooth easy work of this course.
104k? What? It better massage my front side as well for that price!😮
The power wagon don’t care
A great driver with 35's can often do more than a novice on 37's.
Really nice video. GMC Sierra super nice. Ram getting old in the tooth
Is it really a better off-road truck than one that has selectable front and rear lockers on solid axles, sway-bar disconnect, bead lock capable wheels, 12k winch, and off road suspension. Standard.
Power wagon 💪🏿 of course or a Rubicon from Jeep
Love the context. I prefer the Tremor stock even though the GMC looks better..or like I have a F250 with a Carli 3" level and 37 12.5 20's.. Excellent articulation with the Carli springs and their shocks. Rides more like my GMC 1500.
Love that GMC! If it would fit in my garage, I would get it
I don’t understand why there’s so much hype about getting off-road packages from the factory. They’re expensive from the factory. You can get much better aftermarket parts after you purchase the truck. And you get to really pick what you want.
This is a good example of both options. The Ram was built with aftermarket parts, where as the GM was built from the factory. Some people don't want to pick and choose they want a truck that is ready to go.
It’s all about warranty stuff
The power wagon by ram has a front locker…that alone makes it better. I’m a gm fan and not having a front locker on the gm for the price is a downer for sure.
So the AT4X doesn’t come with a front locker on the 3/4 ton and you only get it on the 1/2 ton?
The RAM looks and drives 10 years old in comparison. Damn GMC knocked the Sierra HD out of the park! 🔥
I feel like the AEV Cummins would be a like for like comparison. As they’re both AEV built and you can buy both from a dealer.
Good to know some good components on a non AEV Silverado could obtain nearly the same result.
4:48 multimatic started with the 2015 Chevy Camaro Z28. I believe that is the first vehicle consumer oriented vehicle that GM released. After that the prior gen Colorado ZR2 got it then the 6th gen Camaro ZL1 1LE. Then the new gen stuff that we have today are starting to get them now.
Correct.
@@is6566 almost. *2014.
Take a power wagon through there😎
Diesel to diesel comparison.
AEV trucks are amazing! And for anyone who should find themselves buying one, remember this. If you're gonna drop $100K, spend just a little bit more and make sure to get the Sway Bar Release and the upgraded rock crawler feature they swap your Hill Decent switch out for. You get to control your crawl in 4-wheel low with a toggle switch on the shifter by .03mph increments. No gunning the engine or falling quick in holes. Just a smooth crawl. I love driving my 2016 Prospector. I really do.
😊
I just saw on AEV’s website they are still doing rams
Not with a factory warranty!
Powerwagon would put both of them to shame
Yall should have went with a Carli Suspension 3.25” Back Country Kit with Carli Eventure shocks.
No EVenture yet for Ram that i know of.
I’d love to come back on the show and demonstrate to what a moderately breathed on Ram can do.
That dodge would have better throttle control if it was regeared for them bigger tires.
i like the gmc but prices are insane
You know….. I grew up doing what these guys demonstrated on my families cattle and sheep ranch in the mountains of New Mexico. The main difference is we did the same in 1960’s Fords, Chevys, International, Dodge and Toyota trucks….
Most of our vehicles didn’t have AC so we kept the windows down work the rifles in the rear view window. Dust dust dust and more dust. We literally would hose out the entire inside staying clear of the fabric seat.
I’d go with the GMC just because I love the look.
Im ordering the AT4X HD AEV duramax!!!! All black.
But ur poor
@@Rooster-u4c but ur ig norant
I’d get a Carli suspension or AEV on the RAM over a BDS
Just on reliability alone I'm going with the GMC all day long!!
Excellent comparo, thnx guys
Both trucks look amazing and perform well on the track considering their size, but factory mods should not be a comp to consider since you can also get a Ram AEV Prospector on 37s from factory. It would be nice to compare a GMC HD AEV vs a RAM HD AEV to see how torque and original equipment compare under same articulation and flex components; just an idea for future videos.
Pretty sure you can get the Prospecter XL on 40s right from the dealer via AEV. Not exactly "factory" but factory supported and full warranty. Somebody will double check me on that I'm sure.
@@donhappel9566 Yes you can, I'm waiting for mine; a 23' 3500 Limited 6.7L Cummins HO Prospector XL on 40s.
@@RDS4x4 Certainly not a "bargain" truck, but very nice indeed.
Could you slap a GoPro under the front for offroad stuff and watch it on your phone via the app if your vehicle doesn't have a front camera?
That really is a Massive Diff Andre... 😂
Bring back the days of affordable working man’s off roaders.
Will never happen because people keeping buying these trucks (somehow)
Hopefully Ram watches this and takes notes on how to have a winch and a diesel on an off roader…. Cough!!power wagon and HD rebel…
AEV also makes the 3500 HD Cummings Diesel rock crawler along with the 2500 and Rebel. That is one Hell of a truck.
You guys need to air down in Rock crawling situations to make for a smoother ride and more grip
Agreed hundred percent
Looking forward to this one, thanks!
For off-road driving you MUST air down for comfort and for better grip....but it does decrease the diff.clearance
Take some air out of the tires ride would greatly improve and traction.
I wish AEV made bumpers for my F150. Their bumpers are smooth and look OEM, which I like, as opposed to jagged corners and welds.
Yup, Dodge all day long. You all need to learn how to air down and air back up when off-roading.
AEV also has a factory warranty with Ram. The AEV Ram XL is much more capable and has drive train and power steering upgrades. It would have been nice to have this addressed at the beginning of the video. I would love to see the pit two TRUE AEV trucks head to head.
I like the GMC but as far as best factory HD off road truck it’s hard to beat power wagon factory front and rear lockers, solid axles, and winch…. I don’t think either of these could go anywhere near as many places stock for stock.
Huh? The power wagon is down on power big time & has 33” tires how you expect it to outperform this thing?!?
I like the Dodge and its solid front axle. $104k for the GMC no thanks, that should get me a Peterbilt.
La GMC Sierra HD AT4X es la camioneta ganadora esa es la que manda
Gotta love Ram. Off-roading is in its blood. The Power Wagon would be the top dog on this trail 💪
Agreed
should have compared it to an ave ram prospector xl package haha
2:19 did you just Yada Yada solid front axles??!!
Jeez, that Ram’s hood is taller than me.
RAM LSD is way better than the GM G80.
These giants did well. I'm a Polaris or CanAm off road guy cus that's what I can afford.
Should’ve done Carli suspension on the ram
agreed
Why wouldn't you run the 3 factory trucks against each other?
Apples to oranges but the Ram is very impressive. The HD Ram Rebel would be a better comparison.
I don’t think they are that far apart. More like comparing apples to crabapples.
Compare it to the RAM AEV PROSPECTOR XL, apples to apples
I could watch the rear suspension camera view for the whole video. I love watching the springs, sway bar and all that stuff do it’s thing going over that terrain. What’s that pinging sound at around 11:11 ? I heard it several times on the ram. Is that the LSD? Doesn’t sound very good.
That sound it the tread on the rocks
@@Mastr-Tech it sounded really metallic.
Do a towing test a fifth wheel for both!
Can you put 37”s on the GMC, will they fit without rubbing?
These trucks are super expensive, large, heavy, tall. Terrible off-roaders but let’s be real we all would still get one because they look cool and we could maybe handle floods/blizzards better than the average car. And you know what sometimes that’s reason enough.
😂 Ram dealers offer the AEV Prospector Power Wagon with 37's or 40's with warranty.
So, what did we learn? Nothing we didn’t know going in to this video. Both trucks performed well, both are expensive.
Never seen grown men whine so much about not have enough cameras for offloading...
So a top of the line new GMC did marginally better than a bottom line Ram with a lift kit, lol. Maybe do a fair comparison next time, a new Power Wagon vs a new AT4.
Great video!
Talking about articulation, that ram is high up in the air when the GMC is still on the ground in the same place
Great comparison, in the market Andre for that dream Overland build. Jeep guy here so I am spoiled off road but haul has limitations and I am too old for not bringing all the fun things that make life a bit more comfortable. Ram is #1 on my list, love the PW but the fuel consumption goes from bad to miserable with more weight. GMC with 37’s would make a difference. Are these diesel behemoths too heavy? What about GMC 1500 ATX4 AEV LM0 diesel with a few mods? When is RAM going to step it up to another level. Diesel gives you the range, weight is not your friend, gas easier to maintain for most….Hurricane in a PW package with enough bed capacity and 35’s in the works?
Great comparison!
