  • In this video we replace the two serpentine belts on a 2002 BMW 330i E46. At this point we have removed the air filter box, fan and shroud, and radiator hoses since I was doing a cooling system swap at the same time. You would want to remove the fan and air filter box at the minimum to perform this task.

    As usual the 50s Kid makes a good video. I watched this after my AC stopped today. Went out and looked at my compressor before hitting SEND on that FCP Euro cart (compressor, oil). No belt. Or should I say - shredded belt. Car is 22 years old so of course I thought it was the compressor. Autozone - $16 - drive home. New belt installed in 5 minutes. Ice cold AC.

    Don't use the centre hex screws to adjust, they both have 13mm adjuster heads built into thair cast to adjust these belts,.

    Bro awesome video. To the point and good cam view. I have a question about the alignment of the pulleys. If they spin smooth with no wiggle does that confirm that the pulleys are aligned? I’m doing mine for the first time because I noticed my a/c belt has a split down the middle(long way)

    • @robdude1969
      @robdude1969  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yikes! Time to do it! If you have proper parts, they bolt into place perfect. Be sure they don’t spin super freely with any noise. They should have a little dampening built in. Pulleys are cheap. Cheers!

      It is not necessary at all. The top dead center setting is done when installing the chain or belt that drives,the pistons, camshaft, crankshaft and oil pump.

    • @robdude1969
      @robdude1969  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it spins very freely and you hear crunchy noise, it may be showing wear. There may also be a looseness feeling. The new ones feel snug and have a viscous slowness to spinning.

    I’m unsure on how to take the fan off with non special tools

    • @reddragn4772
      @reddragn4772 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of times you use a wrench and a hammer to undo it, but remember it is reverse threaded, also if you have an air hammer it helps

    • @S0SS0L
      @S0SS0L 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need a special wrench - a standard open-end wrench will do, though it helps if it's extra long. I bought a cheap one at a farming supply store.
      The fan isn't torqued on, so it doesn't take much to loosen. If the belt is still in place, a smack with a hammer on the end of the wrench should be enough to break the fan loose. If the belt is already off, then you can fabricate a makeshift strap wrench to hold the pulley with a section of the belt and vice grip pliers.

      @OHioyungsta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There 3 or4 torx 30 bolts on back of the plastic fan itself you gotta feel for em use an3/8 ratchet and the t30 and just remove the fan it gives you enough room and saves times
