AllAlaskan907 the Alaska state troopers Vic's are the v6 not the v8. They top out around 110 a lot of the Alaska state troopers cars are not as well equipped as the continental 48
That's incorrect. AST Crown Victoria Police Interceptors are all V8 powered. The CVPI was never manufactured with a V6. Top speed is 120-125 depending on a number of factors such as whether it's a slick top or if it has an overhead light bar.
I know this is an 8 year old comment but the engine sounds production added in are the sounds if a V8 from a crown vic.
If anyone actually cares to know, they are governed at 129mph. All patrol cars are. It's a mandatory thing. There are special interceptors that are not governed at all. But the vast majority are. Not a Dodge fan at all, I love the P71 VICs but either way, governed....

Good call by the troopers to end the pursuit. Good police work and very respectable. It's just not worth it to put the motoring public more at risk by chasing down someone will a minor traffic violation.
I give kudos on this vid.
Here in Nevada our Highway Patrol cars get the Hemi's or the Ford Twin Turbo Eco boost.

The top speed is 129mph because of the light bar on top of the car, if it went any faster the light bar would be rip out of it mounting joints.

He is currently high as hell laughing at this video while he takes hits from a gigantic blue bong, with a bowl of rice crispy treats nearby.

The Dodge Charger is among the fastest actual police cars, thanks to a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. It relies on 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque for a top speed of 149 mph. Not 129mph. His department policy may be 129mph max but the car will do more.
Your assuming they had a v8 hemi they had the v6 in this time period

To answer your question; turning vehicles are unpredictable. It is unsafe to assume that the vehicle will stay in the intended projected lane while completing its' turn. The vehicle could have made a wide left turn and ended up on the right lane. Had the officer made the choice to pass on the right, he would've collided with the vehicle. It was a good call on the officer's behalf to use the oncoming lane to pass knowing there wasn't any immediate oncoming vehicles.

@culwin There might be some who hate them, but I think that their are a lot more that are on the cops side. I for one have some good friends in law enforcement, and have had some others in the past. Every one that I have ever gotten to know has been a pretty decent person.

This how it should be done in most police chases, but no most American city cops put citizens lives at risk all the time, because they just can't allow a suspect to get away, unlike the cops in this video, they identified the suspect, and will apprehend him later, again this is how it should be done depending on the circumstances ofcourse...
