MoltenFire Gaming and the bow that's themed after it is my "default", when I'm not using one specifically for a specific monster, cause of the charge pattern. Spread for "CQC reaction shots", Rapid for Mid-range, and Pierce for when aiming carefully at long range.

Great Maccao has better mobility than the Kulu-Ya-Ku in my opinion. HOWEVER, it also has more weaknesses than a Kulu-Ya-Ku. (Can be sent flying while on its tail if hit hard enough) Kulu-Ya-Ku has better survivability (Damn rock) and hits hard (With rock) but can lose that bonus (rock) if flinched or staggered or shot at (with a pointy rock or exploding nut) So, in my opinion, kulu-ya-ku probably has a better chance of winning. Even a little bit. But if I were to include the Maccaos, it could make a difference.

Most low tier bird wyverns are relatively easy but new players are gonna learn very quickly that great maccao does not mess around especially once it starts calling for backup from its smaller brethren
while i do think the great maccao is a better starting monster than the great jaggi since its more challenging and makes players get used to faster monsters earlier in the game, i do miss the purple punching bag
pitfallseed I personally feel Jaggi to be better for learning weapons tho. Maccao is annoying to fight with something your unfamiliar with, while Jaggi I'd pretty forgiving.
I still think Maccaos are the cutest bird wyverns out of the small ones, followed by Wroggis. Everytime one of them tries to mimick a Great Maccao's tail slam and misses, I take note of it with a "d'aww"^^
Fighting this thing being completely new to the series and managing to defeat it feels so awesome that made me get hooked. Nice ost for a well designed monster.
Gotta love the OST. It's got tons of character for what is an absolute starting monster. Kind of a shame that MHW's starting monster ended up so much easier.

Not only is the Great Maccao a nice and refreshing first „Boss“ Monster but also his Theme and his Fighting Style are in a way that mocks people who are struggling with it I love it for sure

The corrosive coatings in its talons make it able to inflict Defense Down, dealing incredible damage with its kick attacks.
I actually really love this monster, he's the perfect first boss fight, he teaches you (or you learn) you need to learn the monsters movements and patterns or he'll shred through your health, he teaches you that breaking monster parts have benefits, not only extra parts but in his case you break his tail he'll often fall over from lunging himself forward at you, all that from a monster who's not at all overwhelming to newcomers yet veterans can have a bit of fun too, I hope one day he's in world or mh6
This guy and the Greats should replace the dromes. Dromes are honestly boring to fight since theyre just enlarged Prey raptors with minor changes aside from one move and increased damage and are aestethically uninteresting
Dagoberto Serrano I honestly don't like the dromes or the greats to be honest. Great Maccao was the only one that was actually fun to fight. The greats were annoying, the dromes even more so, while the Great Maccao actually constantly changed his attack pattern. Plus I enjoyed this theme over the greats theme or the dromes theme.
ALas, the Dromes are far more popular in Japan due to nostalgia reasons than the gen 3 raptors. Most of the japanese fanbase hates the gen 3 raptors with a fiery passion, thinking they're rip offs and horribly done expies of their favorite dromes (The same reason why the japanese fanbase hates Qurupeco so much). It's why we have the dromes, but no gen 3 raptors, and Yian Kut Ku, but no Qurupeco.
For me I really enjoyed the greats and drones because of mhf In which it was those guys and yian in which I also HATE WITH A PASSION that they replaced the durpy kutku with a stupid bird who really doesn't breath fire [ it used it's wings in which I hated] and I mean the queropeco I ********* hate it's fight even if it's armor is meh
Yesterday, as a late birthday gift, a relative of mine got me GU. Since I was playing through 4U, I was still trying to get used to the slight shift in controls GU had, so I thought the Great Maccao would be a good warm-up since dromes and greats tend to be punching bags. Needless to say, I was honestly amazed to find out how difficult the fight actually was and how much of a banger it’s theme is. Definitely the perfect first boss fight, at least in terms of MonHun standards.
Hey, imagine if Great Maccao was in a Super Smash Bros game. As unlikely as it is, I would pay just to see a gameplay of a dancing raptor kicking Mario's butt.

We all had to start somewhere. After a particularly tough hunt, it's fun to screw up their jump attacks and watch them careen a good few meters onto their backsides... great way to de-stress!
I do too! This music guys so damn well with it's jerky bouncy movements and makes me love it more. I know this theme pays with a few others but it isn't the same as this with the Great Maccao.
Yeah, great jagras was a really sad boss. Even if he the first, I still expected a challenge... Not me stunlocking him to death by spamming demon mode dual blades on his belly. Great Maccao is kinda the perfect first boss in my opinion. If you underestimate him with base equipment, you will likely be quickly carted. But if you treat the fight with care, its very doable.
The only starting monster in the series that's chad enough to have its own theme and makes most mid-game monsters in World and Rise look like mobile punching bags in terms of difficulty.
I hunted this guy so many times trying to get a crest, but my IG always did too much damage (and I couldn't aim the blows for shit) so in the end I broke out the one weapon I had any practice with that could aim, the heavy bowgun
First monster i fought in the monster hunter franchise in mhgu My rookie crusher Bodied me so hard as i leanred the way of the hunter Tried everything on him while i was still learing what weapon felt natural Eventually he trained me into the way of the Ariel hunting horn
I started with world, I have around 400hrs on it and 400+ on Rise. Generations was the game I played after. With my 800+ hrs of experience, this guy still obliterated me. 😂
This being my first fight in MHGU, I loved this theme so much that I would just blast the sound. I was really hoping that Macco would return in MHRS for the jungle, but it seems like it didn't happen. There's always the free title updates!
I like the music, it feels like one of those Western showdowns or Mexican battle music- Idek I just love it And the Monster itself is just one big THRILL for beginners (it’s still very thrilling and fun for me as well). 10/10 one of the best Monsters in-game. This fucker is by far the coolest first monster we'll ever get in this series, god I love the great Maccao, easily on the top 10 of my favorite monsters
Most if not all the bird wyverns (except for fucking garuga) will be pretty easy creatures that you might make a small mistake once or twice too, and then become super easy once you have better gear, but they should never kill you. Meanwhile, this guy says fuck your rules and will absolutely kick launch your ass into the ground at the same tier level. Obviously once your past a certain gear level he's no problem, but he can indeed cart your ass (fairly quickly too with the power of his tail leap attack) if you don't respect it at the appropriate level. Even when I was playing 4U, great jaggi could never hope to accomplish the damage that great maccao can do in a single flying kick. Hands down, my favourite bird wyvern.
Oh Great Maccao, I ironically love this monster despite being the archetype Raptor Monster of the game. Not only do I love the monster's theme, but loves it's design. Also have the similar love for Great Izuchi, but I love Great Maccao more for being the Kangaroo Raptor. I even drew Great Maccao couple of time just because I enjoy the color palette of the monster.

I'm stuck at the three elder dragons, Kushla daora, Teostra, and Vaal Hazak in MHW. So it amps up pretty quickly.

Dromes are honestly boring to fight since theyre just enlarged Prey raptors with minor changes aside from one move and increased damage and are aestethically uninteresting
Dagoberto Serrano I honestly don't like the dromes or the greats to be honest. Great Maccao was the only one that was actually fun to fight. The greats were annoying, the dromes even more so, while the Great Maccao actually constantly changed his attack pattern. Plus I enjoyed this theme over the greats theme or the dromes theme.

ALas, the Dromes are far more popular in Japan due to nostalgia reasons than the gen 3 raptors. Most of the japanese fanbase hates the gen 3 raptors with a fiery passion, thinking they're rip offs and horribly done expies of their favorite dromes (The same reason why the japanese fanbase hates Qurupeco so much). It's why we have the dromes, but no gen 3 raptors, and Yian Kut Ku, but no Qurupeco.
For me I really enjoyed the greats and drones because of mhf In which it was those guys and yian in which I also HATE WITH A PASSION that they replaced the durpy kutku with a stupid bird who really doesn't breath fire [ it used it's wings in which I hated] and I mean the queropeco I ********* hate it's fight even if it's armor is meh
The Dromes are needed because they give us the Preys.

My personal favorite of the early game raptors. It's a shame they've been absent from World and Rise
Yesterday, as a late birthday gift, a relative of mine got me GU. Since I was playing through 4U, I was still trying to get used to the slight shift in controls GU had, so I thought the Great Maccao would be a good warm-up since dromes and greats tend to be punching bags.
Needless to say, I was honestly amazed to find out how difficult the fight actually was and how much of a banger it’s theme is. Definitely the perfect first boss fight, at least in terms of MonHun standards.
Hey, imagine if Great Maccao was in a Super Smash Bros game. As unlikely as it is, I would pay just to see a gameplay of a dancing raptor kicking Mario's butt.

while that would be hilarious, I fell that if any monster was going to receive an actual character in smash it would probably be brachy because he's very punch-themed

This is literally my favorite monster in the entire series, I love this thing
I do too! This music guys so damn well with it's jerky bouncy movements and makes me love it more. I know this theme pays with a few others but it isn't the same as this with the Great Maccao.

Yeah, great jagras was a really sad boss. Even if he the first, I still expected a challenge... Not me stunlocking him to death by spamming demon mode dual blades on his belly. Great Maccao is kinda the perfect first boss in my opinion. If you underestimate him with base equipment, you will likely be quickly carted. But if you treat the fight with care, its very doable.

I hunted this guy so many times trying to get a crest, but my IG always did too much damage (and I couldn't aim the blows for shit) so in the end I broke out the one weapon I had any practice with that could aim, the heavy bowgun

This being my first fight in MHGU, I loved this theme so much that I would just blast the sound. I was really hoping that Macco would return in MHRS for the jungle, but it seems like it didn't happen. There's always the free title updates!

I like the music, it feels like one of those Western showdowns or Mexican battle music- Idek I just love it
And the Monster itself is just one big THRILL for beginners (it’s still very thrilling and fun for me as well). 10/10 one of the best Monsters in-game. Nothing says it like this creature.

This guy really grew on me over time. Great starting monster.
Most if not all the bird wyverns (except for fucking garuga) will be pretty easy creatures that you might make a small mistake once or twice too, and then become super easy once you have better gear, but they should never kill you. Meanwhile, this guy says fuck your rules and will absolutely kick launch your ass into the ground at the same tier level. Obviously once your past a certain gear level he's no problem, but he can indeed cart your ass (fairly quickly too with the power of his tail leap attack) if you don't respect it at the appropriate level. Even when I was playing 4U, great jaggi could never hope to accomplish the damage that great maccao can do in a single flying kick. Hands down, my favourite bird wyvern.

Oh Great Maccao, I ironically love this monster despite being the archetype Raptor Monster of the game. Not only do I love the monster's theme, but loves it's design. Also have the similar love for Great Izuchi, but I love Great Maccao more for being the Kangaroo Raptor. I even drew Great Maccao couple of time just because I enjoy the color palette of the monster.
