France's Macron says ‘return to peace’ is priority as he arrives in New Caledonia

  • The French president, Emmanuel Macron, has landed in New Caledonia for a day of talks during which he will aim to turn the page on deadly riots triggered by a contested electoral reform. Macron told reporters at La Tontouta international airport that a ‘return to peace, calm and safety’ was his ‘top priority’.
