have the 2.0 tdi i have enough money to buy a 2019 camaro but i bought a mk5 worth it
I've had a 2.0 TDI Sportline from 2004 to 2008, and I was really in love with it. When I bought it, the most powerful petrol was the 150hp 2.0 FSI, so it wasn't an option for me. There's only two very anoying things from Mk V: the constant cracks on central console (made all by cheap plastic), and the wind noise.
Another negative point of the Golf V GTI: Far above average oil consumption.

The navigation system is OEM VW from the chinese market. It called "RCD 330".
i really hope you let those turbo cars idle like a two minutes before turning off the car at that petrol station
He should rather just let the air cool the turbo by driving normally on the Autobahn for a few minutes. Idling after such a hard run does more bad than good.
that radios AutoTopNL you can buy on internet and they are closely original , they call "RCD" radio
The shifts in this Mk5 look quicker than the latest Mk8 DSG.
I have torque converter trans and it so fast compared to mine.

the infotainment sys is actually an rcd330, ( vw OEM headunit for china and brasil market ) which you can find on ebay/aliexpress :D

The main difference between the standard golf5 gti and the golf 5 gti ED 30 is that the Ed30 comes standard with a Ko4 setup while the standard gti comes with a K03 turbo
I had it and sold it and now i regres it. Ill buy it again some day as a daily driver
I can understand in some respect. I sold recently a Golf 5 GTI and buy a Golf 7 GTI (Performance Pack + some options). The Golf 7 GTI is faster, has a better roadholding and is far more luxurious, but the Golf 5 GTI felt more coherent. And I miss the perfect front seats of the Golf 5 GTI.

Agree, best looking golf imo. And engines especially 1.9 tdi are on of the strongest ones in terms of durability so trash talk for golf 5 is really stupid.
I find the steering to be vague, same for the newer Golfs as well.

It is actually possible, if we are talking about gauge cluster speed. They are quite optimistic, probably at least 20kmh at that speed.

I wonder how my 2001 Volvo S60 (P24) 2.4T BSR stage 1 with the M56 would stack up against that Golf.
The BSR Stage 1 tune brings the 2.4 liter 5 cylinder turbo (B5244T3) up to 250Hk and 410Nm from 200Hk and 285Nm stock.
Golf might be a smidge faster. But it depends on how true those 250hp are. Probably the speed is close enough as to not matter.
Golden Croc I’m pretty sure it is a “true” 250Hk (at the crank), but it is a 20 year old car so....
I don’t think it has aged badly, it feels pretty quick and when it was stock if felt like it had more than 200 (but it had an “over boost issue” which i fixed and didn’t really notice a change after i fixed it).
So I’m about 89% sure it actually has 250Hk at the crank (should be 225 at the wheels).
When it comes to going against the Golf, that would be interesting. My S60 is up on power and torque AND HAS A 5th cylinder but it is heavier than the Golf...
I don’t think the 10 extra horse powers will do any difference, but the 80Nm of torque (the Golf had 330Nm right?), is the 80Nm enough to counter the weight... who knows.
Edit: just watched the video again and realize it is a DSG... probably screwed, maybe, my S60 should be able to do 250Km/h as that is what it is limited to so...
Would definitely be an interesting comparison... “win” or “lose” I would still enjoy it.

Yes, 250hp is very believable, no doubt about that. But how is the number 250 reached? Most tuning companys dont have the resources to test engines the way manufacturers does. They also have an incentive to inflate the numbers, and little to no negatives in doing so. Many people will buy the tune that promises the most hp increase.
But that also goes for the engine in the Golf of course, since it also is tuned by a tuning company.
That doesnt mean the numbers are untrue per se, but that the variations could also potentially be larger. And if your Volvo makes 260 hp, and the Golf 230, that makes a really big difference in the race, but is still well in the variation, I would say even a 15hp swing per car would be, so potentially 225 vs 265 or 255 vs 235.
As you say, there is also the condition of the car to factor in. A small leak or almost imperceptible misfire, some less than optimal old fuel, a slightly bad MAF and many other such things can sap 20 hp without being noticable, very true.
There is also the definition of what kind of race it would be. Lower weight and power gives an advantage at low speeds, while higher weight and more power gives an advantage in higher speeds, were aerodynamic drag is most important. So it could well be possible to see the lead change several times in the race, as the speed goes up.
The comment you made on the cylinders and torque is interesting, as I said dont take this the wrong way...
Number of cylinders dont matter. At all. They only matter in in indirect way, as in, can the car produce mpre horsepower because it has more cylinders? If the cars have the same horsepower, it doesnt matter they got 1 cylinder vs 12 cylinders, when it comes to speed and acceleration.
Same deal with torque, it matters only in an indirect way, as in can the car produce more horsepower becuase it got more Torque? Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes the answer is no. But the "peak Torque number" in itself doesnt mean anything when it comes to maximum acceleration. Only "in gear mean horsepower" does, which is a number that is not availible from any manufacturer or tuner as far as I know.
Yes, the DSG gives a big advantage, even though it saps sligtly more power and makes the car heavier than a normal box. But at very high speed, where the shifting is a smaller percentage of the time spent acceleratiing, then the advantage goes back to the manual box, for the reasons stated above (less weight and power loss). VAG themselves used a *manual box* in their Nurburgring lap record attempt with a Golf or was it a Seat leon Cupra, dont remember, but they are more or less the same car anyway. One or the other.
Yes, indeed it would be very interesting race, too bad I dont have my old tuned BMW 120d diesel, which could have added an extra dimension. But with only about 215-220hp and more losses since it was rear wheel drive, it would surely lose against both this and your car. I also had a BMW 123d diesel with about 270 horsepower, and that would have also been interesting, maybe it would have been slitghly faster.
Currently I have a BMW 335d, but it is tune to waay to much horsepower curerntly for it to be a worthy race for any one of us, though I suppose I could flash the software back to the factory standard of about 285-290 hp, and that would maybe be a bit competitive, since the 335d I have got is very heavy for being a coupe.

Third GTI Mark V. Third one with broken SUV, boost leak or something. The Edition 30 or pirelli with 230 HP Stock easily reach 270 Speedo. So this Thing even with k04 and a soft Software must go faster.
270 speedo is like 245 gps its rlly bad with the older gti they did that on purpose to make the car look faster then it is.

Great comment. In my opinion the 1.8T MK4 GTI engine was the most reliable, you can torment him so much that he doesn't give up, is not so powerful like this one but is very strong and if you want more power you can make a swap with 1.8T BAM from Audi
