My dad got me a job at his steel factory in Manchester, UK in 1976 when I turned 18. I hated every minute, but I'll never forget two workmates arriving in their brand new motorbikes. One, a beautiful Triumph Bonneville 750 and the second a silver, Benelli Sei 750. The two friends arguing over which was the better bike. The Sei six cylinder, in those drab, grey, days was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. Within a fortnight the lad had dropped it on it's side, destroying one half of those stunning triple side pipes. I think he sold it afterwards. If I close my eyes, I can still see him riding it onto the factory floor and hear it's incredibly loud, distinctive six cylinder engine. Years ahead of it's time.

i had the chance to buy a 750/6 way back in the mid 80's. It was in good order and was up for £1500, Not a day goes by without me bitterly regretting buying a Katana 1100 instead. This video makes me regret it even more! Top job!

This was such a beautiful machine. I saw one new in a motorcycle showroom at Krumm's Cycle Sales, Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas in 1975. It was way out of my budget but I always wondered, what if?" Still, while the restoration is gorgeous, I tell myself if I had it that it would never had gotten to that state where restoration would have been necessary. Glad it lives on!

For Xmas in 1974 my parents gave me a book with photos of all the bikes for sale that year. The three that I remember and still lust after are the Benelli 750 Sei, the Munch TTS and the Van Veen OCR1000. Never ever seen one of them in the flesh after forty five years of owning and rebuilding bikes.

I was at the Crosby Hotel on the Isle of Man during TT week in 1998. I heard this weird noise approaching and tried to place it in my memory bank, but I failed. Then it appeared. A beautiful dark green Van Veen OCR 1000! I was thrilled to bits and spent the next 30 minutes giving it the once over. What a gorgeous machine! Never seen another one since then, although rumour has it that about 100 were built and sold, mainly in the Netherlands.

Amazing craftsmanship! Wish l had your skill, dedication.
I was restoring a BSA Rocket. Just realized l no longer wanted to do that anymore. Now l shoot trap and ride Soft tail standard chromed out.
Enjoy and cherish your Benelli and your life. Sweet 😋

Well done lads. Saving a classic. I was watching a yank who found one in pretty poor nick, in a shed. He says he's going to restore it, but he's talking about using JB weld to patch holes and cracks in the cases etc. I don't foresee anything good coming of this.

Definitive ‘Labour of love’ - well done indeed!, don’t let Allen Millyard sneak it into his workshop otherwise it might emerge as a 12 cylinder version😜

How sweet it is. I wanted one of these so much in the 1970's but settled for a Z900 instead.

I never saw one in the metal, but in magazines at the time, and thought Wow, what a machine.
It was the for runner to the Honda CBX1000 which was also a six cylinder bike, but unlike the
Benelli it had twin overhead cams, and four valve heads. Both bikes are really sought after now.

@@allensutton1614 Thank you for your reply, I've modified my 900 Sei a bit, it now has a bank of six VHB22 Dell'Orto carbs with aluminium bell mouths, a cut and welded Silentium 6 into 6 exhaust to raise the silencers up, if unmodified the 750 Sei's silencers hang too low on the 900 due to the more upright cylinder angle. My exhaust mounting brackets are stainless steel, bought from Benelli MotoBi Club GB. I modified a pair of Paulo Tarozzi rear sets meant for a Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk II, they get my knees away from the outer cylinders bell mouths, I've also installed Tommaselli clip-on handlebars. The final drive chain is now a simplex 3/4" x 5/8" , this machine is a keeper, for sure.
When I bought it in 1986, I traded in my Laverda 1200 Mirage, the Laverda was too thirsty returning only 27 to 30 mpg, it was also too top heavy and you need forearms like Popeye to operate the throttle and clutch controls. The Sei is much a more civilised machine, it's a keeper..

  • @dennisbuckley

Phenomenal. I had a motorcycles sticker book as a nipper, mid-70s-ish UK, and living in a household where dad and older brother owned a series of old British bikes, a few in my book made a lasting impression: including a humongous Münch, the perfectly proportioned Honda XL250, a beautiful Moto Guzzi Le Mans and the Benelli 6 (as it was labelled in my book). Fast forward forty-plus years and I have my first motorcycle (long story) - I’m unlikely to own any of these classic fantasy machines but it’s great to see them off the page, alive and kicking. Thanks for posting! 👍

Beautiful restoration...I first saw A Benelli Sei in the late 70s or early 80s can't exactly recall...I assume the 750 version...probably the last time too in the street...pictures and now TH-cam only since...a rare motorbike...I expect it'll go to a collector and sit in a garage...or dust free display cabinet...only Italian bike I ever rode was a MotoGuzzi T3 automatic... borrowed for an hour...can't believe those 6 exhausts all survived the decades...made parts to last in those days...amazing

if Alan Millyard had of acquired this bike in the unrestored condition he would have more than likely made a V12 out of that engine block, he did it with a Kawasaki, V12 and V8 versions, both I think are in the Barber Museum, Alabama, USA....anyway, great restoration...beautiful and rare motorcycle.

An extended high rpm idle, after a complete rebuild, but no fan for cooling, that’s real bright🙈💩.

    • @allensutton1614
      @allensutton1614  ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for the concern. New cams have a coating which requires specific rpm to bed in. Start up procedure was perfect and there was an external fan. All correct procedures followed and bike is very well.
