The most amazing thing is that every developer had 15 years and NON made a game that comes even close. So they had to make it again.

I've never seen a video game hit that sci-fi opera setting so well. Every damn mission from that singleplayer just felt.. epic. Like a journey through the events of some ancient legend, a myth, a sci-fi odyssey. From the hand-drawn cinematics and the mesmerizing soundtrack, to the actual in-game ship and space background design, the artwork is superb. This is not to say that the gameplay was anything less than excellent, its just that the story and the extremely well done sci-fi setting managed to top it.
I'm kind of surprised someone somewhere hasn't tried to make something like a mini-series of Homeworld. Maybe it's too Battlestar Galactica-esque and they don't think audiences would want to see something so similar so soon. But seriously, there is a great story here that, if done right, I'd love to see them adapt it to a film or television medium.
Sadly, there is no track record of video game plots being successfully adapted to film or television. :-/
I'm astounded that they haven't integrated that "Fleet Command online" line in any of their ads. For me it's one of the most haunting lines in the Homeworld games.
Holy fuck Campbell Lane's voice got a million times more impacting in HQ. RIP.
The way he stings the word "Peace" in this and in Gundam Wing is so impactful and memorable.
I played the original as a kid and it blew my mind. I played it all the time. I never got to own homeworld 2 though, so that one will be entirely new to me. This is probably the best upgrade on graphics of any remaster or HD version of something I've seen. I can't wait to play it this wednesday!

I really hope they've made some sort of tribute to Campbell Lane in the credits. His voice and story telling is one of the most amazing things my ears heard until today.
Campbell Lane's voice is awesome. I only wish I had that voice. Such a shame he passed away.
As awesome as HW2's story is, am I the only one who thinks that HW1's story is better?

You're not. Storywise, HW2 is the weakest of the three-it contradicts stuff from HW1 and COMPLETELY ignores the events of Cataclysm in favor of lame "Prophecies" and "Chosen Ones". The last three missions, in particular, are a complete mess.
But I'm still looking forward to the battles, pretty skyboxes and fantastic mods. I just hope they've fixed the campaign's dynamic difficulty.

It was certainly never 'critically acclaimed'. It also made no sense in some parts (I need them to follow me, so let's destroy their only means to follow me!) and the whole 3 cores thing was a retcon that damages the entire concept of the original story.

YEEEEEEEEES! It's been about 15 years and still one of my top 3 favorite games of all time.
I love homeworld so much, one of my all time high lights in gaming history. I'll be playing beginning to end through it once again!
I'm even going to dig out cataclysm and do a walk through of that . Its somewhere buried in a cupboard but I'll find it. I just hope I get hold of the limited edition.

What is this sorcery? Everything that I have seen and heard actually say that Gearbox did a really good job with it.

Here I am I have not the finished the original campaign of Homeworld 2 . I'm still stuck at the bentusi mission where i have to collect it's remaining parts :
My biggest fear with Remastered was that I'd discover my love and adoration for Homeworld was a bunch of rose-tinted-glasses-related nostalgia. I've never been so happy to have had such fears dashed; both games hold up magnificently, with the original held cemented in my top 5 list.

Oh man, those pulse lasers hitting the side of the ship on 2:01 are so freaking awesome. Did they hit like that in the original?

Volound Xercodo you guys are both missing the point, I think he's talking about the Vaygr ship right after that at 2:02... Unless you did mean at that one as well, but that one looks more to me like it is getting hit rather than it being the one shooting the laser...
P.S. if those are PDL's, why are they shooting the cruiser with it? xP

Maybe this is the return of space rts? I really hope so, I also hope we will get complex mod for this...
The last "classic" Complex mod version is being released soon, then "Rebirth" will be Complex for the remastered versions. The Complex development team actually had a decent amount of influence on the remaster, helping it to stay moddable (not to mention teaching Gearbox how some of the "black boxes" in the game engine worked).

Homeworld 3 will have it's work cut out for it, lacking the incredibly voice work of Campbell Lane.
So among other features, HW2 brings a new playable faction, does it?
Compared to homeworld 1, homeworld 2 made a bunch of changes, a lot of which the community liked. Homeworld 2 introduced 2 new factions, the Hiigarans and the Vaygr (replacing Kushan and Taiidan).
In the soon to be released remaster you will be able to play all 4 factions in the same multiplayer matches.
locopyro13 And if that's not good enough, there will be mods, among them is probably going to be the Universe mod, which added just about every faction to Homeworld 2. Even the Beast and Kiith Somtaaw among others.

Skalder I'm late to the party, but I personally can't wait for Complex to migrate over to the new engine, if it happens, of course. I'm very hopeful. It just occurred to me you might not know what Complex is.
It's a well balanced mod that adds over a thousands ships, modules, and a whole new layer of RTS style complexity. (Crew, power, logistics, etc.) It also makes the game about four billion times harder, but whatever.

I didnt understand anything from this story trailer, who do you play as? Refugees? Who is chasing you and why?
It's all a *MASSIVE SPOILER* as the stories are contiguous between the first and second game. So don't read on if you actually want to play through them without foreknowledge.
The Kushan, original inhabitants of Hiigara (the Homeworld), became warlike and ruthless under a dictator. Eventually they were defeated, but by means not-so-likable by the interstellar community. To make up for this, the people living on Hiigara were spared but loaded on ships to be exiled, erased from history, and banned from ever using hyperspace travel again; some of them managed to sneak the hyperspace core which allowed massive ships FTL travel across mass distances away from their doomed dictator and took it with them. Those specific exiles ended up on the desert planet Kharak, and "devolved" into tribal nomads who forgot their history. One day, they rediscovered the derelict ship their ancestors had arrived on, a galactic map to Hiigara, and the hyperspace core inside it. Homeworld 1 starts here. The first Mothership was built to take a set of colonists back to Hiigara, but when the Taiidani Empire detects the Mothership making her first hyperspace jump test, they use atmosphere deprivation bombs to destroy all life on Kharak as punishment for violating the ancient ban. The Kushan left in space with the Mothership then make the battle-ridden journey to Hiigara and reclaim it ending Homeworld 1. Homeworld 2 takes place later, and depicts the Taiidani and various brigands of space being united under a Vaygr dictator much like the one that ruled the old Kushan Empire. He's set on taking Hiigara as the "crown jewel" of his empire, and Homeworld 2 begins with the siege of Hiigara. The Pride of Hiigara, the second Mothership, escapes to cross space and find a way to defeat the Vaygr, stumbling into an ancient prophecy that explains the hyperspace cores and a method of controlling the universe; this turns out to be the ultimate goal of both sides and when the Vaygr are defeated the Hiigarans use it to re-open the galactic trade lanes that predate themselves for a prosperous galaxy.
Indeed, if it plays like the original, the story is (ok borrowing from other places but) easily one of the most... sweepingly epic ones from any game I've played. The way everything hangs together is totally worth NOT reading spoilers. Play/enjoy the game :)

So i shouldn't read what you typed? I mean the campaign starts as the first homeland than it continues in this remastered version or this is just homeworld 2? Can you explain it without spoiling? Like t he basic things only? And exlpaing how the game plays out, is it just gather resources than make fleet than kill everyone in that system?
Filsoh for Homeworld 2 you are trying to save your planet from destruction, you have a Hyperspace core the Vaygr (bad guys) also have a hyperspace core. to save the planet you need to obtain an ancient weapon from the prophecy know only as "Sajuuk' and thus Vaygr want it also to rule with extreme power and so the race is on. clear enough?
The plot (as outline in the very first cut scene) is thus:
A planet of human-like people, already quite advanced (to a point of satellites etc) with a knowledge of other races and space faring etc live on a dustbowl planet.
The sands of the "great desert" shift and a millennia old spacecraft is revealed. Inside it is a stone upon which is carved a star map. On the map is "a word as old as the clans themselves, Higara, our home". Along with the map is found the remains of a functional hyperspace drive...
As intro's to plots go that one just blows my mind. Frame it against earth. If we found something that shows FTL is possible and that we didn't start life on this planet...

Heh, This game ruined the genre for which it was the second ( and first ) over 15 years ago and to date only one other game dared to go against it and failed (Ancient Space). I have seen a few games (still isn't released but hopefully soon as tomorrow). The three games so far made the cult following and some created fully working mods in HW2. Still since when know the fourth is a per-quel (yeah, it's not really the same as the 3D RTS), but I wonder if they would make a Homeworld 3 and live up to its expectations ... who knows.
i'm quite disappointed of the graphical update. I love seeing the ships from every angle in this game but it's like they only put a high resolution texture with a bump map on each model and nothing more. With today technology the game could be way more beautiful..
Honestly, the story of homeworld2 is not good. Especially the last battle was awful.
Honestly, its still better then any other RTS or FPS games story, so it doesn't matter.
Homeworld > Homeworld 2 > Everything else
