    You have a really great flow and pacing to your videos. It really keeps your attention. You cut at intervals that still allow you to see what's going on, but don't sit there too long, and you do GREAT camera work, especially with focus tricks and panning. Just wanted to say your production is a level above a lot of other channels.

Biostrip20 DOES get rid of everything, but what you need to do is pour it into a Dolmio jar then dunk your dudes in ovenight. @satricv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since your dealing with older minis, for the metal ones, both pewter and the even older lead ones, "Pine Sol" soak for a couple of days, followed up with a good cleaning with a electric toothbrush, has always worked for me. Been in the hobby off and on since 87' and 99% of my Space Marine army is all pre 95' beekie marines. mostly the older leads, and the 20 for $20 plastic box set with the "shark" style missile launcher. Have a Company and a half plus support, just real shy on heavy support as I never got ahold of much in the line of tanks, my one big wish I had done. If folks want, I can unlock a really old vid on my channel, where you can see some of my stuff. Not the greatest painter, I have my own homebrew chapter, but they are my pride and joy.

    I used to use Nitromors for paint removal - it’ll melt plastic but it’s spot on for metal minis. It’s vile stiff but it will take any paint clean off. Just pour a cm or two into a jar, drop the minis in and leave overnight. Warm water a toothbrush and bingo! Just don’t breath in the fumes or get it on your skin

  • @g00gle5ucks5
    @g00gle5ucks5 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got into making a blood angels 2nd/3rd ed force. I love the simpler and less cluttered models, the gameplay and the smaller army sizes. Ontop of that, there's a lot of good nostalgia and the benefit of an eternal (dead) format where I know that my units will be just as relevant 10 years from now as they are today and were 15 years ago. This is when I feel the lore peaked too.
    2nd/3rd 40k and WHFB 5th/6th are each by themselves capable of supporting a lifetime of hobbyism. There's always a new army to paint and play or thing to try out.

  • @vassago42

    I started back around 91 or 92, and still have every Space Marine I've ever bought. Around 800 marines now, almost an entire chapter, and 95% of them are Rogue Trader era lead or pewter minis. I even have one of the very first marine designs before they came out with the beaky marine. I havent actually played the game in more than 15 years, but it was my first game that got me into tabletop strategy and RPG games, so i doubt i will ever part with them while im still on this earth.

    Doing this right now with 2nd edition metal Space Wolves! Found an old ragnar blackmane, predator tank and full squads of grey hunters & blood claws, filling it out with more characters & wolf guard units. Also sourcing all of the arms, weapons & backpacks which isn't so cheap...

    • @boltgunmetal
      @boltgunmetal ปีที่แล้ว

      And yes, I'm all good using more modern plastic shoulder pads and wolfy weapons instead of the original plastic bits and pieces. I don't hold much sentiment to 2nd edition plastic, all about the metal sculpts. Adorning those with upgraded shoulder pads (like I'm also currently doing with a metal Death Company) only makes them more special imo.

    Seriously great video mate, as always. The production values, humour, subject matter, all spot on. Love the nostalgia vibe. I was an 87-93 Rogue Trader, supplemented by a sh*t-tonne of Epic Space Marine and Space Hulk (particularly happy memories of combining Lego bricks, Action Force guns and Blu-Tack with my younger brother to make ancient automated defence systems for our own narrative Hulk campaign). Fortunately, my midlife crisis has had an outlet via my son. Though at 13.5 years old now, I know the window is sadly likely closing for joint painting sessions and babbling on about lore and new releases. In any case, just wanted to reiterate you produce some of the best Hobby content out there and please do keep it up. Happy punter.

    Metal miniatures, I HIGHLY recommend using Berryman B12 Carburetor Cleaner (not sure if they have that over in the UK) in a small bowl with a toothbrush. Stuff will eat thru acrylics instantly and does ZERO harm to the metal... however, this is will NOT work on plastics as the B12 will basically chemically melt said plastics.

    You should try that new "slap chop" method of getting through. Dry brush them then put on speedpaint. Paint 'em once, paint 'em fast.

    If you do another mass stripping project I use the following plastic safe trick. Screwfix no nonsense degreaser (11 quid for 5 litres) 1:1 with water into a container with the minis. Then put the whole container into a waterfilled slow cooker on warm setting (about 60 degrees). The inner container stops any fumes escaping (even though it's water based). leave for 24-48 hours (topping up the water in the slow cooker every few hours) and the paint will have mostly fallen off the minis.

    You know, as someone with shaky hands I find myself spending a lot of time not painting miniatures that I should be painting because I keep talking myself out of. Time to get out of my own head a little, i think.

      Yeah bud, even if they’re zenithal highlighted and oil washed, they can still look pretty!

    Really, REALLY excited for Big Chungus Chaplain. Love seeing old minis with modern paintjobs and how completely transformative it is.

    Brilliant video as always, but that music that starts at 2:00 in triggered a nostalgia response in my brain I thought I'd ever have again for PlayStation 1 demo discs holy shit

    that's a lotta boyz! id normally stick some metal sheets inside that old carry case and magentize them bases but them all being pewter im not sure if the carry case handle could bear the weight.

    I was mental about warhammer from 1989 to 1994 but only collected a handful of models and never played. I bought every White Dwarf and a couple of books I was young, not well off and NOBODY played (apart from 1 mate who I played necromunda with about 4 times). Ffwd to 2017 and I finally jumped in with both feet.

    Acetone is nasty stuff but it dissolves just about every kind of paint and plastic there is. If you get desperate with your metal figurines, I’d give that a go. Nice video as always, look forward to the continuation!

    The vindicator was always a bastard to put together. The whirlwind was no fun, I always wanted to do one with all the square tubes from the old rhino kits that was featured in the special Dark Angels white dwarf that was about in the old days. Never had enough rocket launchers though. Lol
    I recall my land raider also being my crowning piece. I remember it was £35 quid too.

    Biostrip Tip: Don't paint it on. It's much more effective if you just submerge your models in the stuff and leave them overnight. Then fish them out of the pot one at a time and scrub them under a cold running tap. I've stripped entire collections of old minis this way and never met a paint scheme I couldn't shift.
    The Biostrip will turn all sorts of funky colours the more you do this, but will still be good for dozens, if not hundreds of miniatures.
