    Man when Jim Cantore starts to sound nervous, you know you got a historic event taking place.

    Camille and Katrina both hit virtually the same areas of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

    My home was located in the Pass Christian Ms area right off the Bay of St Louis and it was totally destroyed the water was 28 feet above sea level.I can't describe how bad this hurricane rearranged the landscape. Total destruction and unrecognizable. .

    Born an raised here in Chalmette Louisiana which is just 5 miles southeast of the French Quarter, at 2:30am that morning was the moment that I was starting to get very concerned an I had every right to feel that way, an I never dreamed I'd be swimming 7 or 8 hours later...

    Was visiting family in Charleston when Katrina hit. One of the largest hurricanes that did ridiculous and unfathomable destruction. Even when I visited the area,you could still see the leftovers of the storm surge,with waterlines around the city and other parishes.

      @ALF Raydough That doesn't make the pain any less valid. People died. People lost loved ones. They lost homes. Many certainly even have PTSD from this horrific event.
      The lives lost in New Orleans are no less valuable than elsewhere.

    According to this advisory, it was a Category 4. 135 mph winds are in the Category 4 range, not 3.

    • @Dj0287
      @Dj0287 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The National Hurricane Center always does a reanalysis after the season for landfalling hurricanes. And surprisingly after the analysis they determined that Katrina was a 3 with 120 mph winds when it made landfall on the LA/MS border. But of course it wasn't really the wind damage that destroyed the MS coast it was the Cat 5 like storm surge.

    2005 was a very interesting and active year. My father passed in May of that year, and after, I saw the strongest thunderstorms I've ever seen in NJ. They happened day after day. Huge thick lightning strikes and even a tornado in the last storm. Never saw a tornado before up there, but the one that occurred was pretty strong. I've been through many tornadoes here in SC but not quite as strong as the one I saw in NJ. I was almost hit by lightning shortly before it came. I felt the heat from it and it threw me back. It's wierd it all happened right after my father's passing. Made me think it was him letting us know he was pissed. Lol. If I remember correctly, wasn't there many strong hurricanes that year?
