Hello i was in the storm it was a mess and very sad ,i lost everything ,close friends some family members ,but through it all i must say ''THANK YOU GOD FOR SAVING ME AND THOSE WHO MADE IT OUT BEFORE AND AFTER ME" IM BLESS BY THE BEST `AMEN!
Thanks for this. I live in Texas and we don't really get hit by tornadoes or hurricanes. This helps me understand/get a perspective on what others go through. I know these kinds of storms are scary and very dangerous, but I'd like to get a watertight car with a snorkel system and rollcage in it and drive around just to see the storm.
It's amazing how a disaster can happen in an area, and after that, the people who live there come back, assess the damage, repair, move back in and continue on with their lives as though something like that could never happen again. I don't think I could live in New Orleans and sleep well every night after this. I would always shudder every time it rains and/or thunder strikes. Well, I guess the human race is very resilient!
Ren W Well, storm stories were a hot topic for a year or two after katrina hit. A lot of people WERE scared to death about it. Some people couldnt even take showers because the storm made them absolutely terrified of water. Trust me, a lot of people did move after Katrina hit. The thing is though, what made it so bad in New Orleans was the fact that the levees failed. After Katrina, they started building houses above ground and have fixed the levees so that, hopefully, something like that will not happen again.
Joshcoshbagosh Thanks for your response Josh. After writing the above comment i visited New Orleans and actually really liked it. I see why so many people are in love with it. Still felt weird being six feet below sea level but I did sleep very well and soundly every night I was there. lol! Maybe it was the nice hotel bed and pillows!
just keep in mind this was recorded on a higher elevation the the center of N.O. over in the middle there was rediculous flooding car sliding down the road and wind so loud you couldn't hear yourself scream, a very traumatic experience
For those who must know, this wasn't the first storm to hit New Orleans this bad. Read about Hurricane Betsy before anyone say these people need this storm to happen. Ignorance is always present smh!
I worked on Canal street where this video was taken. I was there in 1990 Able to experience Super Bowl 24 in January then in February able to experience Mardi Gras. Place was absolutely crazy. Stayed for a total of 4 months and abandoned ship lives in Metairie which is one of the suburbs worked in a place called Canal gift shop didn't like anything about it it. Was basically geared towards ripping off tourists that's how they paid us there was no salary at all it was commission only the sales people that had it in their heart to take advantage of people that were drunk and on vacation did very well and stayed I could not do it that's the reason I left.
it was cat1/cat2 but remember that wind is amplified as it cuts through streets and such. It will create a wind tunnel. So while officially it might have been a 1/2 (varies) the winds in the certain areas were greater. But the damage to the city was storm surge, not necessarily the winds themselves.
Indeed. But when I said "we don't really get hit ..." I meant "not commonly". I am 21 years old, and our city hasn't gotten hit by a hurricane. Maybe a few tornadoes, though.

How fast winds.
hurrican katrina hit when i was born
when a hurricane is bad.... and may second it is going to be hurricane season
Are you sure...Cause...You look like a 35 year old woman...
And these were only category 1 winds. The never got stronger than that in the city.
they got up to a category 3 in New Orleans..
That's not what I heard. It made landfall a cat 3, but I heard that the winds that actually blew through N.O. were only cat 1. But who knows?
true that.
