If Dime was still alive, Pantera definitely would have gotten back together, and when they did, I would have spent every last penny to have him melt my face. R.I.P brother Dime.
Thing is, Dime was a insanely heavy drinker and smoker. If Nathan didn't take his life alchohol definitely would. But he will always be the greatest metal guitarist that ever lived. Rest in piece Dime!
Dimebag was filled with energy. I've saw Pantera a dozen times and each show was an absolute killer. Can't believe some crazy marine lunatic suffering from schizophrenia would kill Dimebag. I'm still pissed about it
That’s pretty much the outcome of war. You start making violent (not satanic just super heavy n hard) music and there’s a one in a million chance some person will lose control of themselves because their mental disorder makes them think such people need to be killed to stop violence, ironically.
The thing that amazes me about Dime is not only that he kinda invented his own scale, but that no matter how good the guitarist covering his solos is, it's impossible to play it just like Dime. His vibratos, bends and harmonics are just too... special ;p
Agreed some iconic guitarists have a personal style sound only they can make, like Eddie Van Halen. Dime and Pantera took me to a higher level of metal, past my then favorites.
I was at this show. August 19, 1994, Nassau colosseum Long Island New York. What an amazing show. I bought the VHS of the show later that year, and 20 years later it starts showing up on TH-cam. Crazy. Rip Dime. You were the greatest that ever picked up a guitar.

this is what you get when you Frankenstein EVH, RR and Ace. Good god he was just so freaking amazing. but as good of a musician as he was, he was even a better person. miss you dime!
They were influences, but remember he was also influenced by Scorpions, Def Leppard, Steve Vai, Metallica, the list goes on and on. That's how you know he is a real artist. He arrived at his own style by taking what he liked from a large group of other artists. Not just a few.
Ace? Ace was a terrible guitarist. We all grew up listening to KISS. Because they were cool as fuck. And picked up guitar because Ace looked the shit on stage. But as soon as we learned two songs we realized Ace was not that great. Didn't Gene Simmons try to hire EVH to rerecord some of Aces parts in the late 70's? Before Van Halen got big? I am going to be really embarrassed if we are talking about a different Ace.
23 fucking years. And 1994. I born at 1995..and i discover pantera in the year of 2015. I just found my favourite band. Dimebag is just sheer awesomeness and beast at guitar. Legend goes on..who knows even the next generation might like dimebag too.
I live that edition but of the mouth for war solo, sounds absolutely beast live, that little set off hammer ins and pull offs it's like a little moment of eternity I wish that was on the record! R.i.p dime
I heard that he tried doing lessons once... once. Think he said something along the lines of him not having the patience to practice the scale his teacher had given him and not even having the patience to read tabs or even read the newspaper. He simply just wanted to jam and play with his friends, and that’s what he did. Some things I said could be wrong, I’m tired at it’s almost 2 A.M., but I think it was similar to this. So yeah, dime was definitely a talented man and is one of my biggest inspirations today.

That, and no one could shred your face off with a solo but while still having tons of feel/emotion to them like Dime could.. Lots of guitarists can shred solos but it's just mindless shredding as fast/technical as possible; most of em can't do it with the finesse/emotion/feeling that he was able to do. Don't care what other people say, but for me Dime is top 5 greatest guitarist ever regardless of genre. Damn shame some scumbag had to take his life, not just a great talent but an amazing person who genuinely cared about fans and always made time to chat with em or sign an autograph. Dude was a rare breed for sure, and he will be missed for a long long time.
That guitar could have had a hundred necks and a thousand strings he still would have mastered it. The guy looked like God. He was a God. God of guitar.
Jon Barnhill he probably wouldn't have even touched it, he was against guitars that weren't just plain regular 6 stringed guitar, and he barely ever used any tuning except for e standard and d standard, a true genius doesn't need too much to express its true geniality
But the beautiful thing about Dime, was that he didn't need but six strings! Hell, he played Scott Ian's 4 string guitar on occasion and destroyed! R.I.P Brother Dime...

100% true. Even Zakk, whom Dime revered, can’t properly nail the feeling in Dime’s solos.
Iconic would be the right word

the crazy thing is dime never really took a lesson on guitar or have a formal music lesson..he just play..some ppl are just talented and gifted
Supposedly he disappeared into his bedroom for a long time to practice. (like the whole summer) and when he finally came out he was Diamond/Dimebag.
He devoted his life to playing guitar. Talent will only get you so far... practice makes perfect.
