- This is going to be obvious to a lot of people, but going by the other videos I've seen, it needed to be put in a video too.
So it's been fun getting into Apex, for the gameplay, community and culture. I've watched a lot about it and I'm noticing some trends that just don't make much sense. Wanted to make a video to give some counter arguments to the "generally accepted viewpoint" that I've seen.
Obviously, do whatever you want with your money, but for anyone trying to talk themselves into buying loot boxes, I hope this can help talk you out of it.

If you're willing to use the EA launcher you can switch to the Belgium version of the game. This replaces all loot boxes in the BP with equivalent rarity crafting materials. And disables loot box purchases.
The extra materials make saving up mats for skins you actually want a whole lot easier.
Yeah that would be better than random, but assuming you were doing that to get the heirloom during the collection event, would it work out cheaper? And would it block you from getting the heirloom during the event due to needing to open loot boxes then too?

Eh, eventually though you will get an heirloom, so i'd just rather keep getting my packs from level up.
You are guaranteed an heirloom every 500 packs so if you buy the battle pass every now and again you've got a 1/2 chance of getting it before you reach level 500.
@@RocketJumpNinja You can still receive and open free lootboxes. But you can't purchase them or any bundles containing them. And aside from the BP they are not substituted.
So, it's technically possible to complete an event, but it would be very difficult to craft everything.
@@ClarksonNo1 This is fair for most of the lootboxes, but I think it's definitely worth getting atleast the first section of the BP through this method.
Instead of getting the first gold pack it is replaced by 800 materials.
Just buy the skin you really want and open free boxes. I personally got Heirloom from free boxes.
Pro tip: dont spend money on loot boxes in any game.

It's sort of hit or miss. Some loot boxes can be pretty decent like in League of Legends or Yugioh Duel Links but EA is notorious for having bad loot boxes
Fax bro. Why spend money on some 0’s and 1’s. It’s just lines of code on a screen. I only spend 25ish a year on apex. since I’m only a freshman and don’t spend money on a phone plan and allat.

People still spend, so it ain't gonna change unfortunately. So sad to see the state of the triple A industry these days.
Here in Belgium all form of loot boxes in video games are banned. So even in games like Apex were you can only buy certain skins in bundels with loot boxes you cannot buy them, the option is locked for us.

I tend to agree that most of Apex's skins are mostly meh. There's are only a few standout ones among a sea of mediocrity.
Something that I've been thinking about recently is about how much I've been missing challenge-based cosmetic unlocks. My favorite example to use is my teenage Call of Duty playing days, back in the orignal MW2. Skins for weapons were unlocked based on things like kills and headshots on those weapons, and in retrospect I really enjoy that system. Having cosmetics tied to a specific accomplishment, no matter how small the accomplishment, is such an immensely more rewarding system than skins that have no value to you because you paid for them. In addition, these days challenges are tied to a battle passes, so challenges you complete aren't necessarily tied to anything specific, they just linearly progress the BP like everyone else who has the BP (e.g. Apex's stars for challenges, then 10 stars equals one BP level).
Yeh getting the gold AK in COD4 was a fun exercise and got you to use weapons you didn't usually.
I would love something like that in Apex.

Well said mate. Its like one addiction isn't enough. Now you get two in one package, gaming and gambling. Crazy thing is people want this stuff. Very unhealthy.
I found games most fun when playing only on two days in a week.
It also doesn't help that your favorite apex streamer is always showing off their heirlooms so it makes it look like its the norm to own them. They're doing EA a pretty big service by constantly showing off their insanely overpriced melee weapons
Those were almost certainly the exact conditions those streamers agreed to when they discussed sponsorship options with an EA Rep.

The fact that you get the heirloom guaranteed with the 500th pack and most people only get it with this one means the chances to get a heirloom is (probably a lot) lower than 0.2%
The battle pass is a got purchase if you play enough because you get some nice skins, more "free" packs and also more coins back than you initially spend.
My friend recently got a Heirloom after buying 100 packs. I was really considering it but after watching most of this video and decided I’d rather not spend 60$ on gambling. Tbh I already know I LOVE gambling but now I’ve decided to just buy a game on sale for 6 dollars
Good to hear. It's basically $67 out of impatience because that 100 packs probably just allowed your friend to hit the 500 pack limit. I was monitoring my packs, I got my next shards at 463 packs. So just wait, keep playing, you'll get the shards eventually.
Heirlooms are overrated anyway, more like pay to lose with all the extra annoying animations that move your screen around as you land/bring them out.
The mythic skins actually make more sense, at least they don't get in the way of the actual gameplay. Definitely not worth spending money on either, though.
i spent more than 2K dollar into apex, I've never ever gotton a heirloom before the guaranteed 500 box threshold. And I never expected so either. Mathematically, it's just not likely. I got most of the heirlooms I wanted, now I stopped buying boxes completely.
Also, crafting material is probably the best thing to get out of an lootbox. Anyone probably would build up a decent skin loadout in a couple seasons time. At that point, gold item is like 1/100 chance (or less) to be something actually worth using, but crafting mats will always contribute to the next heirloom event.
I wouldn’t say that you shouldn’t buy packs, there are some great deals but I don’t really know how lucky people are I got my first heirloom at like level 15 just out of pure luck
I don't mean to play devil's advocate but you failed to mention that it's guaranteed to get an heirloom at 500th pack. While it's still expensive, people eventually get what they wanted and justifies their cause.

I agree with you. For all its faults, league of legends has many skins that are worth their price IMHO, like the evolving ones. Respawn could've done the same, but they only did it for BP weapon skins and they charge a lot more comparatively
Any chance you got to try the Viper V2 and Death Adder V3? Also curious on your thoughts on best CM/360 for consistent aim though its very subjective. PS - Good luck with the novel!

Tbh, when I buy packs, I'm hoping for an heirloom but I also just want to have everything in the game, I got all blues, and almost all grays, and when I get crafting metals I can use it for events or legendaries which I already have 200+
Yeah that's fair. If you want to spend your money on collecting everything in a game because it's entertaining or helps you enjoy life more, then that's cool.
I made this video more for the people who couldn't really afford it but were getting sucked into the hype of it all. They probably know they shouldn't be spending that much money on this game, so just hearing someone else say it might be enough of a push for them to stop.

What i dont is, Apex was the game that give you the most cosmetics for free, and a lot of people continued complaining. Thanks to Apex, fortnite started giving a lot of good skins for free. And still, apex gives us a looooooot of skins for free, the game is free, you dont need those skins to play, and if you play enough, you can craft the skins that you want for free. About the lootboxes i agree, is just dumb of you if you think of buying them hoping to get a heirloom, but for me, it is a good way to help the developers and show apreciation for all the stuff that they gave us all those years for free.

If you play constantly enough just get the battle pass once since it will keep paying for itself after and you get both crafting mats and enough loot boxes to scratch that itch. Just don't give into the fomo.
I just bought the battle pass, nothing else matters. Just reach lvl 100 and get a weapon that is fun while using it.

I bought 100 packs last week ( I had already bought 100 apex packs before) and in this last one i wasn’t feeling the vibe of getting a heirloom and i got one, I did open like 350 packs since I start playing, in my opinion, go for it, you will never know 🤔
I spent $50 to buy a bundle that gave me skins and event boxes because my coworker hyped up getting his heirloom. I did not get the heirloom lol and he told me I should’ve just bought another $50 bundle because he dropped $150 😂
I have one heirloom, and I have it disabled. It's Caustic's hammer... and though it looks great, it's broken. Every time you slide, he spins the hammer in his hands, and once that animation is done playing the player camera shakes. It's not a lot, but that camera shake doesn't happen without the heirloom... and it drives me nuts. These things are so expensive and they aren't even perfect. Bugs like this shouldn't be a thing on a 150+ dollar virtual item.
Yeah when you land with Valk, the heirloom actually does something similar ... so you're paying to get a bunch of animations that look cool when standing still, annoying while actually playing.
Here is s pro tip. When it comes to gambling. The odds are always sacked against you. Don't play games with look boxes.
Hm never really cared about skins, some that I got for free and just playing that I even liked, cool. But buying, never. Most don't even look good, in many games actually. Really QC still has the best actual skins and customization out of any game I can think of, which is also easy to grind and obtain, unlike many other games. Also yeah, they have a lot of clutter and nonsense ones like you said.
Wish they worked on improving the game overall vs anything else, but I don't see that happening really.
I wish you made this video before I tried opening 100 packs myself. It's really not worth it at all. You should at most get the battlepass

I think apex actually apex set a new standard and showed other companies that people will buy skins at 20$, overwatch is doing it too now.

I have spend 35K Danish krones since release and I haven’t played really for 1-1,5 years on off. 35K in investments and I would be more happy vs what I am now. But thinking about 35K wasted that I could have used on more useful stuff make you depressed. I try not to think about. I have way more in investments that give me more in out come every year but still 35K kr. Is still sad, and have heirloom on legends you never play, thinking about it, make you really depressed 😅.
PUBG with its loot boxes and box prices, weapon upgrades and skins just won everyone. For such a bad (in technical terms) game, which is constantly buggy, not optimized, with stupid balance and many other problems, they ask for several thousand dollars each update (2 months)

Heirlooms are essentially pay to lose, not great to have. I think about disabling the ones I have sometimes, like Valk's ... just gets annoying. Some are ok. Which one are you thinking of getting?
Love ya Zy, but this has been an on going issue for like over a decade, if not longer. I definitely know you know this. Companies keep doing this because it works and so long as they can prey on willing people who fall into purchasing things like this, it'll just be an infinite cycle which has yet to be broken. (Spoiler, it hasn't been broken and probably will never be)
People like us who try to make other people aware are honestly the 1% minority. We can scream, shout, post videos and makes PSAs, and these companies will still get away with it. Look at Overwatch "2" and the bs they pulled there. They literally rereleased a worse version of the game to change how they can monetize their awful business practices. I know communities had huge pushes against companies like Blizzard with Diablo "Immoral" but it just snaps right back to how things are after that wave of "success" flows away.

it's all just cosmetics to me so it's all the same. Nice to look at but not necessary to be good at the game. Also, would you be open to looking at mouse accel? (looking at Rawaccel program because it's passed and approved through anti-cheats) or give in your thoughts on it? If you have any questions, I've been using it for 3 years. @MiezMiez I recommend it if you feel like you've honestly hit a plateau with your current aim OR if you want to try something that could help with long range battles but allow you to aim at short range as well. One problem is the customization. Many people can and will over do the settings just trying to find the "perfect" settings.
What I really hate about the abundance of useless skins that it increases the game's size. And not everyone has gigabit internet to download updates.

Seriously! The weapon skins are underwhelming and those were the best type of skins at one time. 2-3 seasons ago, there wasn't many character skins and they weapon skins looked more attractive to me than character skin.
Ive been playing since day one , 2k hours, no heirloom. Just a bunch of shit i dont care about and maybe 2-3 weapon / character skins. I can't believe people pay for apex coins but the cosmetics are trash season after season. The gameplay is where the game shines though. You got it spot on.
If you want to get an heirloom when they drop through the events for free it would take like 12k hours lol

im just a lucky fucker, only bought like the first 9ish battlepasses and maxed them out, and got everything else from lootboxes besides the gaze eternal skin for revenant(its that good) and i've getting a legendary every 3 to 5 packs since season 0 and ive got like almost 300 legendaries

Sadly, yes. Gamers buying game passes, loot boxes, skins, etc, is the reason why cars now have pre-locked-out heated seats and so on. Businessmen noticed that nerds are suckers for technology and will do everything to be a little bit a head. This is why pay-to-win games are making millions, and why almost everything now is a "service" and not a product.
Not only buy it, they encourage others to buy it too, which is why I made this video, bit of a "counter-culture" piece.

I think the healthiest is League of legends' way of doing skins. I wanted a skin for my favorite champion, spent 10€ to get it and I'm happy with it. I did my part to support a game I like and I didn't ruin myself. Loot boxes are a plague

If only apex adopted a cosmetic system similar to fortnite or valorant, they would make exponentially more money. This would mean more money to make the game better and create better cosmetics. Instead they keep this system where you need to spend hundreds of dollars for an heirloom. Imagine being a kid trying to buy a knife in valorant compared to apex. The parent will let their kid spend 30 bucks on valorant, but absolutely not 500 dollars on apex. They literally are just making less money with a shittier system. Terrible for players and the company.
No one should be buying lootboxes, skins, microtransactions or any of that other nonsense. People should be buying the game and that's it.
Yeah I've always mocked Apex's cosmetics. They're just...god awful. Out of CSGO, Valorant, Overwatch, Destiny 2, Deep Rock Galactic, etc. I've spent money on each and every one of them. Not a huge amount, under a €100 each (with the exception being CSGO). But I haven't spent a dime on Apex. Never even bothered to get the Battlepass for it. I honestly much prefer the epic skins over pretty much any of the legendaries for both guns and characters alike. And even then I'd never spend money just for an epic skin.
I don't know if they need more time in the oven, or just better creative staff. But I just find the skins to be quite ugly looking.

Honestly this is significantly better than a lot of games (not defending the predatory loot box system). For example in overwatch 2 they removed loot boxes, if you want skins you HAVE to buy it for 20 dollars in the store. The loot boxes being free with playtime atleast let’s you get skins for free.
