Just catching up on my video watching. On your neckband issue. Sew them first on your regular sewing machine with a longer stitch. Then finish on the serger. Love your videos!
McCalls 6548 is a great pattern! I've made a series of shorts for my 2 grandsons, 5 years apart in age and they are comfortable and the fit is great. I can totally relate to your screw story, mine fell into the bobbin compartment never to be seen again😢 So much trial and error involved in garment sewing, I hope you keep moving forward. Many blessings in 2024.
Jacque, I do enjoy your vlogs your happy personality’s is so refreshing. Don’t despair over the fails, I have done all of those things and more 🤦🏼♀️ but gradually each neckline becomes easier and each make a bit better. If you haven’t found her ‘Kathryn sews’ is a wonderful teacher here on YT. Oh and have you checked the screw didn’t fall in the machine.
OK I have to stop you at 8:59 because I can't stop laughing at your neckband story. . . cough cough breathe ok back to the video . . . I also have had about 4 fails in a row so you're in good company. Congrats on your journal! You're published! xox
I’m sorry you’ve had some fails…but, we learn from every single one…So keep right on sewing…as long as we sew we will never have time or money to get into trouble! So there is that. I just put your book in my Amazon cart. Congratulations ❤ Diann
Oh, Jacque, so exciting that you have a journal published. Neckbands?sometimes difficult, sometimes not. I am not sewing for the holidays, except hemming pj's for my grandson. BTW, you look amazing. I hope you have more energy since you have been on your weight loss journey.
I'm laughing with you Jacque only because my last 3 garments I was making specifically for me to wear to work, were fails, or needed some type of fixing. Imagine getting the neckband to come out fine, then going to steam it and melting a chunk off RIGHT in the front?! Yup, so then I changed it a cowl and the neckline is all wonky now, but I'm wearing it at work right now, who cares?! Congrats on being Published!!! I've decided that since I am always last minute sewing at Christmas, I'm not planning to make a bunch of things, instead I will make them in January for next year, HA we will see how that goes!! Great to see you again, you are looking Fabulous, and that top looks great on you!!! 💓-Mary
Jacque!!! Just seen this and heard your question. WARNING that pattern needs a rib knit! I have made it twice without and used the same fabric but had to expand the width of the waistband and cuff bands as it relied on the fabric being super stretchy which mine wasn't. Use the main fabric by all means but cut those pieces much much larger and not the 80% Both Tiffany and I have chatted about this. Great to see you back and here about your fabric shopping experience xx PS love Dollywood!! ❤❤
Yeah I was going to say check how much stretch is required before you cut out. Also sorry to hear about your fails. We all have them. Have you thought about doing a course or even buying indie patterns which have better instructions and some have video sewalong. ❤Just a thought. Loved your vlog it made me laugh 😊
Gotta tell you my 'pride before fall' moment. When I was a much younger mom of a toddler and a brand new baby, I was running around crazy like because Grandma Georgia was coming to visit. She was a spiritual giant and because I loved her so much, I wanted to impress her. I knew she would be at the door any minute and I ran over to the radio to find a Christian station. I quickly browsed and found my choice when I heard a song about heaven. Doorbell rang. I answered the door and just as she walked into the living room, I heard the lyrics, "heaven's just a sin away...." Not exactly what I was going for. Thank goodness she had a sense of humor.
😂Oh my goodness . . . that's hilarious!!!!!!! Now I'll be singing this all night while I'm in my sewing room. Even though that's the only line I remember from the song.
You lead such an exciting life!! On that 9240 pattern, can't you just use the same fabric as the sweatshirt for the cuffs and neckband? I have that pattern as well and want to make it up. I know that Tiffany on Hoosier Handmade raves about the pattern so I'm going to try it. As for that little screw, could it have fallen inside the machine somehow?? Hope you are enjoying a very happy, blessed holiday season!
My husband said the same thing about the screw - if it's in there, it's lodged because I've shaken it and heard NOTHING. So frustrating! Sigh. But looking forward to 2024 and growing in my sewing journey!
Love your channel. I sometimes just turn the hem and sleeves up as rib knit doesn't suit me. Congratulations on your book, which I've just ordered on Amazon. Im in the UK.
Thanks for being real….some days sewing goes south. Love your happy attitude.
Thank you for your sweet words - I'm ready to tackle some projects!!! 🧵jacque🧵

I always baste my neckbands on first before serging them.
👗👏🏻
Forget the serger, sew neckbands with your sewing machine!
Congrats on your book on amazon! Ive never done a backhand cause I'm scared!
You can use the same fabric. You may need to make it a little bigger. I buy my rib knit from jumping June fabrics.
Pride go with before a fall. That is the very first scripture. My son memorized when he was reading his Bible. It is a true story. Amen
I need to post it above my sewing table. Haha.

I hope to grow in my sewing journey the same as you! Happy sewing!!

Thank you! I was so excited to see a book sold in the UK!
