Great job! I enjoy watching vehicle upgrade/repair videos. There is always something to be learned. I glad you have the time and resources to record what you do and share it with others. Thank you!😀
I never liked that big bolt boss on the front so I being a machinist took it to work an cut the boss off. Smoothed off the front and cut the bolt boss down to match the other front bolt.
Nice video! Removing that tab makes those intakes look much better! Have you noticed that some of the early 96 explorers don’t have it, I think it was added later to hold a throttle cable… anyway it does have a lot of unnecessary vac lines, tapping in the HO intake vacuum tree is something Ive done in the past too.
Yes, it held the throttle cable, and cruise cable. I did not know that there was a version sans that tab. Now I'm going to have to start looking at Explorer's in the yard again, LOL. I definitely like the way it turned out though. Thanks for the heads up!
Whats up dude! I really enjoy your vids and how to vids. I just bought a very nice used EGR gt40 upper lower explorer intake for my 88 lx vert to do a mild gt40 set up with gt40p heads . I am just curious what size Throttle body and Egr spacer are you running with this intake? not sure if you were running a non egr or internal egr set up , but either way just curious on the the size of the throttle body because i am unsure which one to purchase . thanks again!!!!
Thank you for watching! I have a 65mm Explorer throttle body on it, and I found a modified stock EGR spacer on Ebay. It is 68mm I believe. I'm pretty sure I did a video on that spacer. Thank you again for watching. Let me know if you have any questions!
@survivethrive2468 you're welcome. There are a couple modifications you have to make to the Explorer throttle body, but it's a cool upgrade. Especially when you get the throttle body for free with an intake (like me).
Maybe im losted but i dont see where you put the EGR and fuel pressure reg lines? Right now i have s on vacuum tree on one of the snaller lines and my pcv not routed like that..... Need help with mine i bet that the reason why mine runs like shit
The EGR should come from the solenoids on the passenger strut tower. It should be green if it's original. The FPR is originally red, and I can't recall where I put mine, but any regular port on the intake will suffice for that. Does that answer your question? I want to be sure I'm understanding.
Hard to find any definite answers on this but can I use the Explorer accessories drive on an Explorer motor if I put it in a Mustang Foxbody? Explorer alternator , Power Steering pump , water pump, A/C compressor on the Explorer brackets?
@@89G I think the best way is what a lot of folks are telling me, just to find a Fox with a worn out motor and transfer the accessories over, because a lot of the brackets from the Explorer may have clearance issues in the Foxbody.
@harleyd9857 you definitely know all of that stuff will fit for sure. And it's readily available, outside of locating brackets. I am considering going to a different bracket for my alternator, and eliminating the factory style tensioner. If you have any questions about Fox stuff, I can send pics. Probably get you in touch with people that have the parts you need too.
I used a 92 Thunderbird housing, which is a 70mm. It's about the same thing the 93 Cobra used. The actual sensor itself is from an 90 Mustang though. Let me know if you need any more details than that.
@@hotrodray6802 I don't have a flow bench. My research netted me these results: 1986 H.O. -58mm = 541cfm 1987 -1993 H.O. -60mm = 580cfm 1993 Cobra - 65mm = 638cfm 5.0 Explorer - 65mm = 635cfm Worth the simple throttle arm mod for me. Especially when the throttle body was free.
Great job as always, definitely way more of a factory feel and it looks great! The threaded plugs should be worry-free. What are you doing with the old upper?
Hey there I live in Cali as well! So it turns out there are two different versions of the explorer intake, the early 96-97 have the provisions for smog, but later ones do not! You can tell them apart because the lower intake will have a boss on runner #5 where you can drill to install the AIT sensor, if it has that, the intake will also have the other stuff you’ll need for the smog.

@@linuxster that is a very nice compliment! I appreciate that very much!
Great job! Looks awesome! Way better with that tab removed.

Thank you BSS! Hope you're having a good weekend!
Thanks for posting. I picked up the same intake from a buddy...this really shows a guy how to prep it. Looks great!!!

I think it should work. The Explorer FEAD is not far from the 94/95 setup. It's all shorter than a Fox, and also remote reservoir for the PS pump.

@@89G thanks for the help, I’ll let you know if I need some assistance down the road.
Where's the ACT ??
It has to be in the intake runner or you'll get erroneous readings.
It's in the air box.
are you using the stock fox maf with the explorer throttle body??

No difference in airflow. They just look like it.
Check em on a flow bench.
You also need to put the Fox throttle arm into the Exp TB.

I don't have a flow bench. My research netted me these results:
1986 H.O. -58mm = 541cfm
1987 -1993 H.O. -60mm = 580cfm
1993 Cobra - 65mm = 638cfm

Thanks Sleazy! I'm not sure yet. Might do the same thing with it, and just "have it ready". Unless someone needs it... then I'd part with it.
After doing all this, will it pass Califorrnia smog?
