I love songs that can have a lot of meanings! To me when I first heard this song I interpreted that the person singing is singing about his relationship with a woman who abuses alcohol and it has gone as far as she is an alcoholic. And he tries to see the good in her and wants to help her out of it but she keeps going back to alcohol.

What I got from the song, (if it had anything to do with the music video) is that Mary (girl dressed in black) is the woman that killed brendon. She did it for money but later found that he had nothing after she had already killed him. She did her best to cover it up, referencing the Mona Lisa bit. She quite literally got a taste of what she paid for at the end when the little girl called her out with the note that said “Mary did it”. The money part explained this lyric very well “if she had the proper words to say she would tell him but she’d have nothing left to sell him”

Do "Mad as Rabbits" by Panic! at the disco please!

  • @kaikuso9711
    @kaikuso9711 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

this is what I think the story is about
as you said the theme is about the battle of good and evil in ones nature and Brandon is trying to help Mary however she kills him. the line (she would tell him that she has nothing left to sell him), means shes done with him. so he loses hope of her changing and gets help from the little girl to get revenge and justice, the line (there is nothing wrong with just a taste of what you payed for) in in my opinion means a lot of things like the line (he starts to notices empty bottles of gin) so she poisons the gin and he drinks it. then there is the ghost were Mary pays the sin by killing him so she gets a taste of revenge and punishment. and the fire means his revenge is done and he delved into his dark side

Just discovered your channel, and thus far love it. I feel the Ballad of Mona Lisa is the fallout from I Write Sins Not Tragedies. Mona Lisa/Mary is the bride, and the narrator and the body represent the death of that relationship due to her cheating. The lyrics "There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you've paid for" suggests facing the repercussions of her actions, in a similar sense to "you reap what you sow".

Its about a girl Brendon met many years ago on a Halloween night.
He was 15, she was 16, & she was a virgin playing a hooker, he was a boy from Vegas, & she called herself Mona Lisa, he never knew her real name.
She even had put a tattoo on her chest of a purple flower with paint.
The connection they made it felt to both as if they have known each other for centuries.
Beautifully enough, she was still a virgin when they parted ways.
    *Truth*
Not even at all what people may have thought, but still truth none the less.
Have a beautiful night or day everyone.

I had always had a theory surrounding the music videos which basically goes like this:
-I Write Sins Not Tragedies: Brendon exposes that the bride (who I’m going to call Mary) was cheating on her husband (“what a shame the poor groom’s bride is a whore”)
-Say Amen: Mary sends assassins after Brendon, but when they can’t kill him Mona tricks him into having an affair with her and kills him out of revenge for exposing her.
-This Is Gospel: Doctors try to revive Brendon to no avail.
-The Ballad Of Mona Lisa: Brendon’s ghost helps a young girl expose Mary as his killer.
-Emperor’s New Clothes: Brendon’s killer has been served justice so now his ghost can leave the mortal world, which ends up with him descending into hell.

regarding the video to the song, i thought that Mary was being punished for killing Brendon by being burned and the flames in Brendon's eyes were the reflection of the fire when he looks out the window. At least thats what came to my mind. Also with the fact that the little girl is the only one that can see Brendon mabye that indicates some kind of sixth sense...? These are just my theories

Can you please explain songs by marina and the diamonds.
    Like songs like
    Teen idle
    Solitaire
    Happy
    Savages
    State of dreaming
    Obsessions
    Seventeen
