I think my favorite thing about these Kurzgesagt videos is that visual scale of how much more something is than other. Or the clicking noise associated with it. One of the two.
"humans have only been around for 0.004% of Earth's history" yet we were able to fuck the entire planet up in that tiny bit of time. *Well, done, humanity!*
I want to preface by saying that I LOVE Kurtzgesagt videos. It's amazing that such high quality content is available freely on the internet. However, as a geoscientist I noticed a pretty glaring (and perfectly dead wrong) claim in this particular video. At 3:42, you say that the lithosphere is a viscous, convective layer below the crust but the asthenosphere is more solid. This is exactly backwards. The lithosphere (which includes the crust) is brittle and behaves how we typically think of a solid. As you move deeper you hit the brittle-ductile transition where rock no longer breaks in a rigid fashion, but it instead flows and convects. This is the asthenosphere, and the lithosphere "floats" on it.
The sheer fact we made it, period; (much less this long) should alone humble us into preserving our planet as long as possible. Thanks for the content!
Universe: *trying to make a perfect livable place, billions and billions of years* Universe: "okay after billions of years i made this complicated planet that is pefect for life" Humans: *destroy earth* Universe: "oh come on"

And can they survive living in an extremely hot lava/magma and the highly compressed surrounding. What I believe is, now they are there inside the earth in the converted form as Crude Oils🛢 and other Natural Resources. 🙂 Okay Bro? Don't ever be misguided by such a video. Those videos are absolutely fake and made only for personal benefit so that they can earn TH-cam money. So Be Aware & Stay Away From Such Fake Videos. 🙂

How does that make sense Also we got to watch another video the one about the immune system lol Edit 2: why does this have more than 1K likes I only said I got to watch this video? Not like I can complain
Sweet Glider I remember grade nine early eighties I got detention for laughing at the notion that dinosaurs all ran clear across the continent far and wide just to die at the Athabasca far sands. so we could have oil and gas. the stuff they taught in school was such bunk a kid could see they were guessing.
Disaster_Voice_nz And also the immune system app/book. And also the next video. They said that now videos will be bi weekly but its over a month since the last video. On a vacation maybe?(After all, they are humans too and deserve their holidays)
I came from the future to ask them the same! But here I realized that maybe making a video like that would cost a lot, (it take tons of hours and money) alike the cost of all the videos that they have already made for us! So I think that they have not got sponsorship enough to make the promised video. Let's wait

I wouldn't think of it like that. Space is big so there will be many instances where all these things came together, equally many more places where they didn't.
Danica The editor it's kinda weird. we have all this technology now, and know so much more, but we still teach it the exact same way. it's not like we tried a bunch of other ways and determined this to be the best.
The stupidity of a system that is ironically supposed to teach us and prepare us for "life" aka making us part of a system that makes us work for useless paper but backtracking it and making it vital for survival double sided dagger :P
There are some better teaching methods, such as Sudbury Valley education. Unfortunately, most of formalized education still follows the "industrial model" of trying to churn out standardized "workers" with a standard set of knowledge, which doesn't really work in today's society, even if it worked well for the industrial revolution...
crytocc I agree. I would have loved it I had a school were I could learn anything I wondered about, even as a gr.11 student. I still find myself questioning things and how they work, just more complex things. I don't know if it's me by I almost find myself being discouraged from asking these questions (whether that's by peers or teachers simply being unable to answer questions). Hopefully some point in the future we can actually adress this outdated way of doing things.
+Chris ar It's not just you! While there are some good teachers (in regular schools as well), in my experience they mostly just consider the curriculum to be most important, and since other questions get in the way of that... they're not really desired. Consequently, this creates an environment where the students just want to get through the lessons and go home... and so they discourage questions as well, because it means they need to spend more effort than strictly required. So yeah, it's completely understandable that you feel discouraged. If you're curious, I recommend seeking out knowledgeable people on your topics of interest, outside of school. I personally made the decision to drop out of high school and go my own way for similar reasons (and now work as a freelance software developer and tutor).

I don't want to start a flame war here, but this to me seems so much more AWESOME than the idea that some god made it
if you dont want to start a flame war, dont say anything. apologizing ahead of time doesnt solve the problem dude.
youre basically saying, "i dont want to sound racist, but (racist comment)"
so yeah stop
Did you read Norse Sagas? They're quite awesome as well, modern religions are just boring by nature sadly.
And which god that might be? Yahveh, Zeus, Odin, Vishnu, Allah, Baal, Q'uq'umatz etc.? Which one?
Pepethor Technically muslims believe that their god is the same one with jewish and christian god
who made the laws of the universe, who created energy ? who created space? science is only about how things works but not how its created. Nobody knows, you can only believe and i think personally that its better to believe in a loving God.

Charles Li But its a rocky relationship, the orbit drags the moon in closer sometimes and pushes it away at other times. Such heartbreak, many wow

I love this. humour, bit of learning, and has a touch of that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy vibe.
Thank you so much for making these videos free for public viewing! You truly are beautiful souls.
I think my favorite thing about these Kurzgesagt videos is that visual scale of how much more something is than other. Or the clicking noise associated with it. One of the two.
"humans have only been around for 0.004% of Earth's history"
yet we were able to fuck the entire planet up in that tiny bit of time.
*Well, done, humanity!*

+prospectus It's easier than find the vegan and find the anime protagonist.
+YannYann12345 It was nothing.
But when we kill ourselves off earth will fix itself and our relics will be buried.
Anyone see the Tardis floating across the river in the first 30 seconds?

Actually... Humans aren't destroying earth.
Humans are reshaping it.
The outcome will be that humans will be destroying themself.
Earth will be here for another few billions of years after humans are no more.

The quality of animation has grown so much but it’s still good ol Kurzgesagt!
I knew it! There's a secret dinosaur society under the surface!
Nika Zardiashvili
Hahaha. Is it a joke? or you really have met the so called secret dinosaur society. 😳😳😳
A joke? There really is a secret dinosaur society. It's even proven in the video.
ali ehsan
Bro it is just a myth, nothing else! Look, How can a species like Dinosaur live without air and food underneath the earth 🌎?
And can they survive living in an extremely hot lava/magma and the highly compressed surrounding.
What I believe is, now they are there inside the earth in the converted form as Crude Oils🛢 and other Natural Resources. 🙂
Okay Bro? Don't ever be misguided by such a video. Those videos are absolutely fake and made only for personal benefit so that they can earn TH-cam money.
So Be Aware & Stay Away From Such Fake Videos. 🙂
Spoiler alert: this was all a joke. _We know._

My science teacher told us to watch this video and answer her questions after this is so fun.

Had to scroll way too far to find this

The video about supervolcano has explanation about plate tectonics on it
I would still wait for that tectonics video tho...
Interesting stuff.
The whole video combined with the epic music and great narration gave me goosebumps!!!
Very good summary! I have quibbles about some minor points, but nothing that affects the overall picture. Well done!
My science teacher should've played this when we were learning about Earth's insides.
That's what I was thinking
I made my teacher play this
Sweet Glider I remember grade nine early eighties I got detention for laughing at the notion that dinosaurs all ran clear across the continent far and wide just to die at the Athabasca far sands. so we could have oil and gas. the stuff they taught in school was such bunk a kid could see they were guessing.

It's been 3 years. Where is the plate tectonics video you promised?
Disaster_Voice_nz And also the immune system app/book. And also the next video. They said that now videos will be bi weekly but its over a month since the last video. On a vacation maybe?(After all, they are humans too and deserve their holidays)
Disaster_Voice_nz 😁 😁 😁 😁
I came from the future to ask them the same! But here I realized that maybe making a video like that would cost a lot, (it take tons of hours and money) alike the cost of all the videos that they have already made for us! So I think that they have not got sponsorship enough to make the promised video. Let's wait
same
I just searched "Kurzgesagt plate tectonics" because I thought I missed it. But there is no plate tectonics video :(

The fact that earth can be described as a "small wet rock" really makes me feel small
You are. İn this small small sphere within the expanding universe. Within this solar system... You are alone. We are the only intelligent life on the solar system as we know it.

the way you're thinking is a bit strange... Do you ever step back from it and consider why you have to keep telling yourself that?
+greimalkin yeah I tell that to myself to feel special
I wouldn't think of it like that. Space is big so there will be many instances where all these things came together, equally many more places where they didn't.

I learn stuff like this for just minutes and in school its hard :) thank you
Danica The editor it's kinda weird. we have all this technology now, and know so much more, but we still teach it the exact same way. it's not like we tried a bunch of other ways and determined this to be the best.
Wow 8 years you’ve been going now!!! I only stumbled upon this gem trying to find something to background my sleep. But I watch them while awake now as these videos are so engaging
