  • So the engine is fully rebuilt and ready to go back in the car. Sadly the car isn't ready for it and a lot more work is needed on the shell.

Great series thanks for putting together. Who did the engine rebuild and can you tell us what it cost you? Did you consider swapping it?

Block deck skim, rebore/rehone (.25mm), head skim etc. all carried out by RES in Sheffield (UK) and cost around £250. Honda OEM Pistons and Rings £200. New valves, bearings (Main and rods), seals and gaskets £180, Water pump, cambelt and tensioner £75. Replacement engine around £250 so around £1000 for everything - built up by myself so no cost there! :-) I wanted to keep the car original so opted for another EB1 engine with Hondamatic gearbox.

Phil Sayer where are you sourcing things like water pump and pistons?
Have you considered a mk1 Accord? I’m in Perth WA and have an option to attempt a very rusty local Mk1 civic or a pristine Accord from Queensland. Dilemmas...

@@LOLLYBONGO Mostly Ebay and Facebook Groups. Some parts also came from RockAuto in the USA and other Civic restorers in the UK who have been saving/storing parts for many years. I have owned a Mk1 Accord in the past and they're great cars! (avoid the rusty cars at all costs though!)
