  • Ryan Blaser clears up the confusion between earthing and grounding. He explains why using a grounding mat in an outlet is actually doing more harm than good, and how to actually earth properly to get the most benefit.

    I am an electrical engineer, ground IS connected to the earth, it is not the return line to the electric company. Neutral is the return line. If you connect to the ground you will be connected electrically to the earth, if your home’s wiring is properly installed. Ground will only carry current if something is wrong, like a fault somewhere.

      @ZacksLab 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      @@daveWoodywhat exactly is meant by a “dirty circuit”? Can you give an example of a device that would have current leaking to ground under normal operation? Currents return on neutral and, if phases are balanced, there is actually no current on neutral (in reality there will usually be some due to L1 and L2 not being perfectly balanced).
      Furthermore, I’d like to know why this is even considered bad for the use case here, which is certainly still up for debate if grounding the body has any positive health effects.
      So much fxckery going on in this series of Paul’s videos with zero input from competent engineers.

    I've seen the video and I must clarify that Ryan Blaser's interpretation is incorrect. Hearing electromagnetic interference when using a grounding mat doesn't imply it's harmful. In reality, when the human body is grounded to a properly wired house grounding system, it actually offers protection. This is because grounding reduces the alternating current (AC) voltage induced by electromagnetic fields (EMF) on the body. It's important to note that all the academic research demonstrating clear clinical benefits of grounding is conducted using indoor grounding mats connected to wires. However, it's worth mentioning that grounding directly to the earth using an outdoor stake is likely the optimal method.

    You can measure yourself with a multi meter to test voltage going through body, while grounding with a grounding mat inside. It is completely safe, provided everything is set up correctly in tthe house sockets and room...You can get a socket tester cheap for this. There is no AC voltage charge coming through the outlet. So this guy is wrong about that... Also, he is correct about ambient voltage charge in the house, and its best to turn off power, or at least turn off the wall outlet. grounding helps with this... EMF is a whole other thing.

  • @steve1711
    @steve1711 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +58

    In the UK all the earth connections in the outlets are connected to a large metal pole buried in the ground outside the house. This usually is covered with a metal plate saying "Earth". This is completely separate from the two other connections (live and neutral) and is at zero volts. So it makes absolutely no difference plugging in a grounding map to the outlet or running a separate line to the ground outside.

A properly grounded outlet is a direct connection to the earth. Yes there may be other appliances sharing that circuit and potentially dumping some extra electrons into the ground as well, but it's a one way street.
      Anecdotally I sleep better on a grounding mat plugged into a grounded outlet.

      In Holland if you have type F plugs you will see two metal contacts above and below the main pins. These are the Earth connectors so that the two pin plug (having the live and neutral) will connect to the Earth. Unfortunately some old houses do not have an earth wire and use the old type C plugs. People have been electrocuted in the Netherlands when a fault develops and their is no Earth. The function of the Earth is so that if a fault develops a current will flow to Earth, tripping a circuit breaker or fuse and cutting off the power

    I started using a rife grounding sheet on my bed a couple years ago. Had an electrician ground outlet sure my outlet.
    Within 2 days I stopped grinding my teeth completely while I slept & have had many more (at least I remember many more dreams) dreams.
    So I know it is absolutely doing something good, but now I’m worried there are also negative affects.
    So maybe turning the breaker off will eliminate ill effects.

    Here in Australia the part of the electrical system is called the earth. Also, this is very "tinfoil hat" as you put it. The earthing or grounding system of the electrical installation is at the exact same potential as the ground you stand on. It is not a current carrying part of the circuit, unless there's a fault in the system, at which point the current will flow through the ground you touch in that area anyway. There is no science to this, just a bunch of nonsense from someone who doesn't understand simple electrical principles trying to promote a product.

    What kind of dirty electricity are we talking about when after standing on the grounding mat (after plugging it into the outlet) the electric voltage of my body decreases from, for example, 0.3V to 0.05V? ... By the way, Clint Ober himself claims that there is no such thing as "dirty electricity" flowing into the grounding pad (and thus into the body when we touch it) connected to the outlet.....

    Using a multimeter, I measured my electrical exposure while sitting on my bed. The reading was initially around 650. After unplugging a window air conditioner next to my bed that was plugged into the outlet behind the head of my bed, but not turned on - The reading dropped to around 325, half of what it was.
    Then I unplugged a 6-foot household extension cord that was not in use ( same outlet) and the measurement dropped to around 125.
    At least that part of what he is saying is correct.
    How much electrical field is around us that we don't know about is unsettling to say the least. Think about strolling thru a shopping mall or a hospital, even a grocery store, or working 8 hours a day in one of those places.

    Ryan exposes his lack of understanding of electricity in the first minute when he says current "dumps to the ground". Electrons actually move FROM the Earth, not to it. He needs to study basic physics before parading around like an expert. The buzz being picked up by his detector is electrical noise from appliances in the house that are sharing the house wires. Grounding to an outlet is just as effective at discharging your body of electricity, but if you don't want to be exposed to any household electrical noise, then, sure, run a separate wire from your mat directly to the Earth

      Stick a Coper grounding rod in the ground under your car and connect it to the chassis and to a grounding pillow case, or a grounding sock or a grounding bedsheet. The ground to chassis connection makes a Faraday cage, or a semi Faraday cage if some metal parts are insulated from each other by paint. Ideally you would want to make sure the top and side parts of your car are connected to ground to protect you. I am assuming no artificial EMF will come from underneath but that won't be true in underground cables are there where you are parking. SonI would say he ideal is to make a full Faraday cage with the body of rhe car.

    That’s interesting, but when I measure the voltage with a volt meter plugged into any home grounding system, it drops to the same low level as when I’m barefoot outdoors. Home grounding systems ultimately connect to the earth anyhow. So I guess I’d have to understand the science behind that demonstration human volt meter.

      "Dirty electricity" NEVER affects a person who practices grounding (grounding while connected to the grounding pin of the outlet). AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHY the electrical voltage in your body will ALWAYS drop significantly after you ground yourself through the outlet. How else would the "dirty electricity" supposedly flowing into the body of a person who is grounded using a socket manifest itself, IF NOT IN THE WAY that it would increase the electrical voltage in his body? 🙂

    Wait, so what about PEMF mats? Are they problematic as well? They are plugged into the regular outlet.

    My grounds at my house are connected to the ground in my panel. That is grounded to a water pipe and also to a grounding rod that is pounded into the ground outside.

    Every time I go camping, sleeping close to the earth I have a better sleep. I wonder what it's like for people living in high rise buildings?

    iirc, in europe at least, ground wires are connected to the earth anyways, because their purpose is to redirect electical misfunctions into the ground if one occurs there is also phase and neutral cable
