Yeah that was my problem with the video. Sure it's small as hell, but there's supposed to be a desk under the bunk bed, so you'd have somewhere to sit. Get a window unit and you'd be not sweltering. A twin mattress so you can sleep on the bunk instead of dangerously climbing to the loft. They did this on super hard mode when it could have just been a mediocre experience with some preparation.

This has me laughing. I lived in a 150 sqft apartment for a year now (I just moved but pay twice as much rent now and 540sqft). It was fine. Quarantine in it was sometimes stressfull and tiny, especially because I had online classes and therefore never left the apartment. But honestly: You can live like this. The reason I mived is that I want two cats (I am picking them probably tomorrow up! A dream coming true!!)
You gotta stay organized, but it‘s fine. I even had a bathroom in it that was like a airplane restroom lol and I kept a second matraze and foldable bed for visitors. My apartment was one giant bed if I built that up but who cares! I made everything work!! I even kept 21 plants and some gardening stuff in it. I also was streaming on twitch. Of course it didn’t look spacious but everyone who visited me loved my apartment and the way I organized it!!
Edit: I payed 460€ a month for that place and now I live in the building next door and pay 858€ a month. In case anyone was curious

60ft^2 isn't too bad, especially for just one person. In terms of livable space, it's bigger than my first college dorm which was a triple-loft. The big issues with living here would be the small shared bathroom spaces, neighbors, climate, and that terribly depressing view.

I agree. Someone who is 6’3” is not going to do well there- but it’s still ridiculous for that size space & no bathroom. Some people are desperate to live in Manhattan. Get over it. Move to Queens.

  • @Bobrogers99
    @Bobrogers99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

There's a fellow with several videos on TH-cam who lives in a similar room, only he does not have a sink or a refrigerator as big as yours. He also has two small dogs. So it can be done, though you'd have to be truly desperate to do it. Since for about the same money you can get an actual studio in another borough that's just a subway ride away, I'd forgo the "location" benefits.

In a lot of developed countries this couldn't even be legally rented out as a residence due to the lack of amenities... ridiculous. People think this type of "challenge" is cool, but the reality is this rental market is just disgusting exploitation of the working class for a basic necessity.

It's only "cool" for people like Erick that can go back to his Soho loft after. For the underpaid working class it's a reality for many. This shouldn't be legal, but people will say "Oh but it's NY."

I’m already redecorating in my head. Curtains for the window, bolting the tv to the wall of the top bunk, portable air conditioner/heater, the fridge under the bunk bed (not on the ladder side), work desk opposite it, setting up kitchen space next to the fridge with electric stove etc, theres already shelves for ingredients/spices, if I could move the sink to the kitchen row I would too as long as it’s not blocking the closet.

I was so low on money in London that I was searching cheap accommodations, I like tiny spaces so I was looking for something small. I found this room that has this trapezoidal shape, almost like a triangle, it had only a bed and a small desk in it. When I went to see it, I just couldn’t believe how small it was and that someone would live there. My family’s tool shed was larger than that. On other level there were the shared bathroom and kitchen with other housemates and I should couldn’t do that. The room was like 300£ but if you search more you’d find something around 400-450£ that would’ve made you feel that you’re living in a palace compared to that. I’ve tried to lower the price with the guy but he wasn’t having it, he was really adamant with the 300£. I was like damn. Okay. Got my second job and found something better.

They do it because there are droves of idiots paying to live in places like this. You can't make people who have no standards, magically get them.
It's a supply and demand issue. Cities like NYC and London, and many others have unfortunately blinded a lot of people into believing that they're the only places you can find work and feel fulfilled. For many, the lesson is learned the hard way.

    Hmmm the essentials you'd need...
    A working Air mattress.
A small desk to put under the bunk, and a chair to go with that.
A Pillow or two to lay your head.
Covers for you to sleep under, as well as a warm/hot blanket if needed on the cold days/nights.
A working fan for the hot days.
Now you have a sitting space, and a place to put your computer and plates to eat.
For food you'd need the hot plate, skillet, seasoning.
For your room you'd need either a Wifi hub to set up, and perhaps a Netflix account. So you've got some entertainment as well as internet access. If you have a laptop and internet access, you won't need to use the TV much.
With all those things, staying in the room in between work and visiting the neighborhood it's very possible. Even staying in the room for an extended period if you can watch movies on your laptop in between projects, and cook a meal, it's definitely possible to do.
But he had essentially none of those things so it's much more difficult in that scenario :P

If I was attending college - yes, this would totally work. For one semester I had a Dreadful (with capital D) roommate - which experience I still haven’t forgotten.
Living in a dorm I had a bed and a desk with a chair, a small dresser, night table, and that’s it. No laptops back then! Living in a place like that would encourage a student to study - have meals on campus - really, no need to cook at all.
So I could see cramming a desk and chair in there and managing just fine, with monthly trips to the parents’ house to switch out clothes and so forth.
