Great apartment, and in SoHo too. One of the most expensive parts of the city. The artwork thing though..... Supporting local artists is buying their art....not asking for free art to hang on your walls, and use as a "prop" for your TH-cam channel. I'm sure some are going to say it's great exposure because you have so many followers and they will see it. Your average follower probably won't buy an extremely large 5'x5' or 7'x'7' piece of artwork they see hanging on your wall. A lot of artists are struggling right now, more than ever, and just like a lot of others, with this COVID crap going on. Your "promise" of exposure isn't going to pay the bills. If you can afford a SoHo loft, you can afford to support an artist and buy their art. Other than that congrats with the new place. It's really nice. :)

Interior design student here. First of all, you should keep the loft window area the wood tone that it already is. Its such a beautiful color. Secondly, I would highly suggest getting an island. There is little room in the kitchen to prep food so the island will give you more prep room but also act as a way to break up the space and create a defined kitchen area. I would also suggest getting plants to bring life and most importantly color to the space. With such high ceilings and everything being white in the apartment it can give the sense that no one really lives in the apartment. I would also say getting natural linen curtains to go over your windows and also the wall that you are creating. It seems like you love simple neutral colors for your home interior and bringing in a different tone of white/beige can go a long way to making it feel like your home and not just an apartment you sleep in. I would also suggest getting rugs and decor that has texture. Our tactile sense is a huge part in which we experience design and the world. I would also probably mount the tv on the wall between the windows because it looks like a picture frame anyways. Also, I would get either a natural wood dinning room table or a mixture of concrete and wood to give it again more texture and visual interest.

At the age, he’s now, I find myself thinking he should take full advantage of it because we only live once and despite my critique of certain aspects of his new apartment, I want to state for the record, that as long as Erik is happy, that’s all really matters. He’s the one living there, not us and we’re both modernists at heart. I live in a classic brick and corrugated steel building that’s in homage to the classic Bauhaus building in Dessau, Germany and both the International Style and the industrial loft look are dear to my heart.

Tips from someone with a passion for interior design: definitely a kitchen island of some sort, keep the wood on the sliders, mount the tv on the side wall and not between the windows, get floor to ceiling (or like from the window “bench” to the ceiling” curtains in a neutral coloured linen and finally rugs. It’s such an open space that it needs rugs to create different zones, and remember to get very large rugs so they don’t look out of place.

Congratulations 🎉 the property is amazing and now a perfect home.
For the loft windows you can go for black or just a lighter woody shade to match with the flooring.
For the corner of loft you can have a small cabinet with a safe to keep some valuables.
For the kitchen, you can have a small bar counter next to the dining table with a wall mount open wine cabinet that's sleek and with dark wooden finish.
For the wall that you want to decorate with artworks, you can go with some blues and grey to give a color addition.
The living room can have a grey rug and a customizable mood lighting from the floor. This would enhance your movie experience or provide an enhanced relaxation and vibe. I suggest a long LED strip lighting to serve the purpose.
For the bedroom, I can suggest another partition to separate the work area. As the bedroom is a place of relaxation, you don't want to take your work worries to the bed.

This is an amazing apartment. By far my favorite out of all the ones you showed us. The main area is so spacious, and then there’s all those extra little rooms and crannies. Also thank you for doing the apartment tour before everything is decorated - I wish more people would do that instead of waiting so long until it’s perfect.

I like that you appreciate the structure and the uniqueness of your new loft. I often see places I think are so interesting and different and it hurts me to see the owners not appreciate it like I feel I would. So I really enjoyed this.

What your problem is: You need a place with two seperate rooms. this whole glass-wall thing is going to be a coinsink. You‘ll move out there in a couple of months, thats for sure. And this whole space upstairs is basically for the dog, since you can‘t even stand straight there.

@@xpsaa5727 Agree that he will move. He said so right at the bat --this is my home for the next year. That is a ton of trouble and time--and is the landlord okay with building a wall? Seems crazy for a place that you are only going to stay in for a year and that you don't even own.

I think most people in NYC move every 1 to 2 years plus Erik already mentioned on Instagram that he plans to actually buy a house after this. So, this apartment will be his last apartment in NYC. The glass wall that he plans to build to create a bedroom is his preference and he likes it so there is nothing wrong with that :) It's ALL GOOD IN DA HOOD PEOPLE!!

It’s a beautiful apartment, but it baffles me the fact that this is either something Erik is into, or something that’s a New York thing: big apartments that got only one single freaking bedroom. My Brazilian mind can’t grasp that, because down here that apartment would have at least three bedrooms.
