I really like the Kuretake paints, and have used them a lot. I used up 2pans, but you can get refills. Some did curl a wee bit but when l sprayed them with water they settled back. I have a 3 layered wooden box of Derwent coloured pencils, it's like a sweetie (candy) box 😅 Love watching you paint Trina, the touch of white did the trick for me, great result.......Alioban ❤
Good to know! I’m not really worried that they curled. They still work. I have been eyeing that set of Derwent pencils, however, I don’t think I would use all the colors. I might purchase a few more in open stock. Thanks my friend! 😍
@@MixedMediaArtByTrinal havnt used all the colours. A friend worked for Derwent years ago, and when products didnt quite meet standards she got bargins !!!😁
I enjoy your channel and love the Derwent pencils. This landscape is really nice! In general I'm not a huge fan of the Kuratake pigments, which are not the same as watercolors and were designed for a very different art style. They developed from the sumi-e ink and other Asian painting traditions which focus on gesture and pure colors to produce flat, 2-D paintings. Nothing wrong with that, of course; some of the pigments are beautiful and art materials are a matter of personal preference. But they are not designed to be mixed or to produce the same effects as watercolors.
Thank you. I have read that they shouldn’t be mixed but I did it anyway. Haha! I always try to find ways to make the materials work for me. Always experimenting. 😍
@@MixedMediaArtByTrina Ahh, yes it is! If you go on Google Earth you see Devon in the south west of the UK. Devon has two national parks, Dartmoor (I live a few miles away) and Exmoor in north Devon - that’s where the source of the River Exe is!
I love the effect of the pencils … and I have plenty of those!!! 😂 I’ve never tried these paints before, but they are on my ever-growing list. As ever, great video. Thank you 😘
I really loved watching you create this, as it was so much about exploring the paints, colors, and mark making, keeping it fairly simple, nice to change it up. I think the painting turned out amazing! I love the expressive marks, and the paints, and marking back in with the pallet knife. I also loved adding the white brush strokes in at the end. I have been tempted several times to try Kuretake watercolors, but since I mainly use acrylics, I wonder why I would need the? Although, I guess they would be more matte/chalky than acrylics? What do you think? I also still have my regular water colors for when I want to work with those... Lovely as always! 😍🤩😍
Thank you! It was a fun play today. What if you painted acrylic over the Kuretake? Might be interesting to have some transparent layers and then some bold acrylic layers. Let me know if you try it!😍
It's still a fun set to play with, I totally agree! It gets pretty hot and cold here in Kansas so maybe the temperature fluctuation. They still work. Thanks my friend! 😍
hi trina.. i love watching your videos, and how you achieve so many wonderful textures.. I'm a gouache artist( and watercolorist ), and also love the folk art factory channel.. so glad you enjoy her channel too . we get so many ideas from each other , eh?? Norakag, here👍👍👍 all the best to you in the new year 😊😊
I have the larger set of the kuretake, they are super expensive in the uk and i picked them up in Tokyo. But even there it was surprisingly hard to find them, and nobody seemed to have the Art Nouveau set. I’m still regretful about that, because although the larger set is nice, there’s almost no crossover in the colours and the Art Nouveau colours are way superior - or to be fair, much more to my taste!
Mine have curled also. I’m not a big fan of these for some reason….however you have inspired me with this piece to drag them off the new shelf system I found at a thrift store😂 A pencil to make grass marks? Who knew? JK Love it the white acrylic really brought it back to a snowy scene! Lovely!
Received the Art Nouveau set for Christmas…they are definitely not like traditional western watercolors. I don’t like them concentrated. They are nice diluted…but I don’t like the shiny texture of concentrated color. I have to learn how to use them to their advantage.

Wow. I've not had a chance to watch your videos for a while because of the holidays, but now I can. You are really inspiring. Calm and relaxing ❤
Welcome back! Hope you had an enjoyable holiday season. Thanks so much for commenting. 😍
I really like what you are doing with the shaper and the pencils!
Thank you! I’m really enjoying using the color shaper with watercolor. Such interesting textures. 😍
Looks like Oregon coast on a cold, rainy day. Love your painting
That's an interesting observation! I love it! Thank you. 😍
Super helpful, love the variety of mark makers, gorgeous painting...thank you! 👏
Thank you so much! Making marks is my jam! 😍
I think its gorgeous! I love my Kuretake paints.
Thanks so much! 😍
Lovely painting. I love mixing the media.
Thank you! It’s so much fun to experiment with different textures! 🤩
I have to agree with you and I wish I had the larger set of the karetake paints, they are really beautiful I think.
I agree. I’m still finding ways to fit them into my work. Thanks my friend.😍

Love your techniques. I went out yesterday and bought the pit pencil, oil based and today I will play.❤
I hope you have fun experimenting with it! I love that it’s so dark and doesn’t smear. Happy creating! 😍
Awesome. Color me inspired!

Yes I was wondering mine too also started curving up. Same pallet.
Hmm. I need to look at my other set. It might be the binder? So curious. 😍
Wow! Such an amazing interpretation! …..it reminds me of Dartmoor in Devon this winter!
Wow, thank you! I love that it reminds you of a certain place. Is Dartmoor in England? 😍

Thanks so much! The Kuretake paints are fun but not a must have in my opinion. Try it with watercolors. 😍

i like these and have several sets.
They are fun! 😍

They curl because of dehydration but the binder holds them together.
