Np few words before you pull the trigger. Get the i5 one or update to i5 . The i3 is ok but gets bottleneck in some games like red dead Wich is CPU intensive. Also it is not quiet. The r1 does not have good air flow. So the fans will kick a bit loud under moderate load. nothing unbearable. Taking the cover out gives better temps.i didn't take the cover on the test so temps on the vid are with cover on. It's a nice little PC
That it's up to you my friend. If you find an alpha with the i7 already in the unit at a decent price go for it. Just keep in mind how much you want to spend on your unit. You could end up spending more upgrading over time. All depends on the specs you want in the unit. Saludos :)
I like pc's a lot but this doesnt hold up well in comparison to the ps4 or even xbox one and they are older. This was out in 2015. Xbox one and ps4 in 2013. He's running games at 720p and struggling to hit even 60 fps. This couldn't run Warzone or Halo infinite while those consoles can. I know he tried warzone but that really wasnt playable and looked like the witcher 3 on switch
I have one of these. it serves me as home media pc + parsec host gaming pc so I can game on my thin laptop anywhere in the house without listening to jet taking off unlike actual gaming laptop. my network can only handle 720p game streaming anyways without delay so this works well. I would highly recommend getting one of these if its on sale and you just need low end gaming pc / playing older games.
So... I bought a used alienware alpha a few years ago for 250$ in the box with all original accessories. It was the i3 model upgraded to 8gb of ram. I used it as my daily driver for playing elder scrolls online, starcraft and watching downloaded movies... I never got around to upgrading it due to the price and availability of the i7 cpu needed. In 2022 almost 2023 I bought an i7 cpu, 16g ram and 800gig satanic 2.5 inch SSD for just under 100$. My best friend tells me I'm wasting my time and just to build an APU machine with the ryzen 7 5700g. The Nvidia gtx 860m beats the graphics performance of the best ryzen apu by a pretty solid margin 10 to 20 FPS in some cases. I'm now using my alienware alpha to play fallout 76, red dead redemption 2, csgo, doom eternal, rise of the tomb raider.. it even runs cyberpunk but with pretty low settings ( that has got to be the worst optimized game ever ). I love my alpha... its tiny, it's quiet, after using artic thermal paste it runs super cool. I leave it running for 30 days at a time sometimes.. and if it breaks I can find a replacement unit to swap my upgrades into for around a hundred dollars. I just don't place any value on 4k gaming at 120fps.
I play some games that are awesome at 4k on mine with the i7 like Deadspace and Batman Arkham City. Many games from ps3 ara will do 4k as long as you lock the fps to 30 and it looks great. idc how old it is, I will always love this little machine. Just make sure you overclock the gpu a lot to get the fps you deserve
well try to fresh install this alienware and have drivers problem with wifi (windows 8.1, windows 10). Such a shame because in linux mint eveything works like a charm...Anyway nice vid :)
Yeah I forgot to add gpuz stats. Heaven and doom only display the GTX 860m as Nvidia GPU 2gb that always happens on mobile GPUs and Nvidia drivers Eather way if you run heaven on a r1 you should get similar score as the one I showed same with doom
I have run Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3 (it’s a pain to setup) and there is a way to run Switch games. 360 and PS3 is hit and miss, xbla and psstore games usually run better.
Thank you for this! This is exactly what I was looking for. Guess I better pull the trigger and buy one

@@FENIX3233 mine is pretty quiet. Have you changed your thermal paste lately?
not lately. i believe it was last change it in may. it could also be my unit. it has been used heavily for years now. it probably needs new fans.
@@FENIX3233 what about going right to the i7?

I have given up on my R1 i3 years ago. Now I want to get a SSD and bring it back!
I'm surprised that a mid-tier PC from 10 years ago is still able to competently handle modern games. Says a lot about the longevity of PCs vs consoles

I can't get my d
Steam to launch on my r1 after resetting it
I got mine but cant run far cry 3 not same specs tho i had only 4gb ram
i have the one with i7, can it run valorant? i haven't played any games on the pc since it's old:\
CSGO run fine so valorant should run ok
I have an i3 and it still work like charm
Que i7 le tienes me gustara actualizar uno con i3 pero he visto que suele fallar
I mean for a pc it's good but the graphics are worse than a ps4
its like ps3
How do we know your really using a Alienware alpha

I use one for a Batocera box. Works great
I think that’s where I’m headed with mine! What’s the most recent system you can emulate? Aiming for PS2 myself.
Thanks!
