  • Founders Marlies and Jai Hobbs entered the Tank asking the sharks for $750,000 for a 10% stake in the business 'Paleo Cafe', but if we've learnt anything from Shark Tank, it's that a Shark would NEVER take such a deal... 🦈💰🥗
    Company Website: www.paleo-cafe.com.au/
An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

I remember eating this once on my break after having a protein shake and bullet coffee and my boss had to call an ambulance and send me to hospital because I was having severe heart pulpitations from the amount of protein my boss pushed on me to consume in a day (I worked out a lot too) my doctor advised me to stay away from this diet ahah.. it closed down two months later & I happily eat carbs now

On the US version they’re told so often “if you walk out that door the offer may be gone when you come back in”. Everything on late-night 30 minute ads became High Definition! Paleo is just as stupid! Chefs cook plant/animal substances, period! Gordon Ramsay has no problem making 100's of incredible vegetarian meals(I refuse to use the word Vegan, as people who call themselves Vegans usually have a REAL arrogant attitude for some odd reason), he just isn't into doing that as part of his style!
People who think they're really clever get burned a lot! Like idiots who make "non-dairy" ice cream! No such thing! May be a great product, but ice cream has animal "cream" in it, period!!!!!!! But people like to use pea-based substitutes, and call it ice cream!Just more idiots!! I just eat food that I like, and I like most things, plant and animal! BUT once you process "paleo" foods by bottling it, extend its shelf-life using preservatives etc, you're back to producing food with additives just like every other restaurant. Janine just breathed new life into their business and it was a great outcome.

If I had a chance to put my business in front of these people, I’d take whatever offer they’d give me... because having one of them on board would give my business such a leg up and have it so set up for success that I know in the long run, I would do way better.
People walking in with these huge valuations on businesses worth a fraction of what they say, forcing the dragon to take more equity to make the deal worthwhile, are morons... especially when you see this happen over and over, and how the dragons react positively to someone undervaluing their business (cushion lady for example).
People squander and waste this opportunity over and over, which is worse when they have the opportunity to watch the show and see what tactics fail and which succeed and don’t take and of that information into account.

Joke aside.... she does give horrible lowball offers.

We're missing some numbers. For head office, a net profit of 300k / turnover of 875k = 34% profit. At 13.5 million group turnover. the net profit should be around 4.6 million. 750k ask would amount to 16% equity. So, to see where Jeanine got 38%, we would need to know how much they are charging their franchisees per year, as the valuation is obviously not based on the net profit their franchisees are getting.

There's one shark, a lady, who always think of providing practical offer that benefit both side of the deal. Part of that calculation are probably several risk including decision not only on capability to manage the product but the financial aspect too that on the early stage of promotion, success is still unknown if it's going to be a hit in a market or not. Positioning yourself on a 30-40% deal doesn't guarantee you a winner too. She probably lost millions after several product failures from previous deals between 5-25%. It's about how the shark involve their expertise and share the chunk of their wisdom to a successful candidate while the major shareholder do majority of hardwork especially management and maintaining financial cash flow for the business. Looking at how majority of entrepreneur fails to meet the expectation vs a small fraction of individual who successfully made it were all proven products with several years of experience and already a success story even before they pitch their business with the sharks.
When a shark who dominates the space but pushed himself on a product that relies it's strength on logistics and retail marketing is sure to get a challenging job to retain the operation or end the story with success.
But the most flexible shark is the one who handles marketing. He can always find a way to bridge the product to a successful business model but unfortunately he engage himself lesser than the other on brands he should've taken.
In US, a one size fits all reversable jacket that only produces for a dollar but sells at $9 were a big hit and sells more than $10M in just a few years span.
The secret? Right product and right choice of shark who handles the space and commercial marketing.
I want to see more of these in Australian Edition.
Steve is definitely an idealistic but cautious shark. I thought he's the smartest and speaks with sense. But not logically right always on his opinion.
    Just saying.
