  • I’ll teach you how to make homemade sticky rice. This sweet rice recipe is easy and colorful. Perfect and playful for kids' parties and holidays. Sticky rice is a staple in Lao cuisine and is known as Khao Niew [ເຂົ້າ ໜຽວ]. We eat sticky rice with nearly every meals because it pairs well with EVERYTHING! I like it best with spicy dipping sauces called jeow, and with grilled meats. Watch the full video for the complete tutorial on how to do it.

Another option is to use butterfly pea flower which is commonly used in Laos to add a natural color.

It so much fun for the kids. Pink is really pretty. Recently I had a party with a theme, so used a color to match the party theme.

The real purple rice is sold on Amazon. And I saw it at Saraga before.

I appreciate that you do this. You do a great job! You know there is actual purple rice you can make right you should really try to cook that. I’m Laos and khmu.

Hello! Thank you 🙏. Yes, I’ve had the purple rice. I have a toddler and he enjoys when we color the rice blue and pink. The day I filmed he chose purple. 🙂 I was expecting this comment and almost used a different color to avoid any confusion. He probably would have had a tantrum lol

@@CookingWithKhonKhao yes haha I was totally confused at first I have two toddlers and two adult step sons of my own they all love sticky rice. Never tried dying it with them I think the boys won’t care but my baby girl and boy would love that. I’ve really enjoyed your intake on all the traditional food.

My mother-in-law uses food coloring 90% of the time. She rarely cooks the actual purple rice. She’s Hmong from Laos.
