Revealing Arthur chewing out Pal and saying how he sometimes wishes he never had a dog _after_ Arthur is panic-stricken and doing everything to find Pal is _beyond any doubt_ the _dumbest_ writing move I can think of in a story about finding a lost pet. They just _removed any sympathy_ the audience may have, or at least was supposed to feel, for Arthur. In a _competently_ made lost pet story, they'd show Arthur chewing out Pal _first and then_ have Arthur go on a frantic search for Pal and then sadly admit defeat. That order shows that Arthur truly regrets his treatment of Pal.
This is something that SpongeBob did better in just a 22 minute episode. Not to mention, he never said that he wished he never had Gary.

After rewatching this video 100 times, I realized something. In the scene where Buster is talking to Arthur, he says Pal doesn’t have a collar so there’s no way to identify him. But in the scene right before that, when Pal is doing the horrendous hopscotch job, he clearly has a collar. Just something I noticed!

Yeah, later after the song, Pal chases a butterfly, but his collar gets caught on a water sprinkler and before he gets run over by the lawn mower, he takes it off and runs off.

( 12:53 ) he escapes but i assume he loses his collar which may get found by arthur and buster because they know that; one, its missing and two, that pal seems to be wearing it in the final shot before the constellation song. jeez buster could learn a few things from me about being a detective lol

In second grade my class did a "play" of Arthur's Perfect Christmas. Instead of actually having costumes and being on a stage, we were in our classroom, with giant laminated nametags saying which character we were, and reading directly off a script with a blandness only an extremely unenthusiastic 2nd grader could have. Plus the entire "set" was just paper. Ah, memories...

There's a chance I've already said this, but I really love this video of PBG's, because the fact that he genuinely loves Arthur (the show) really seems to shine through here for me, like this is someone who chose to review an Arthur movie (albeit one he was unfamiliar with.) because he's a fan, and the overall franchise really does mean something to him.
Even when he's making fun of the movie or pointing out (what he views to be) its flaws (the latter of which, a reviewer should do, of course) you can just tell he cares about Arthur in general. The fact that he ends with (what becomes a parody of) a song with real enthusiasm really sums up the idea that, even with bouts of negativity and mockery, this really is a genuine fan of the franchise as a whole. I know that anyone who watches enough of PBG will know he's a fan of Arthur, which he even points out in this review, but... it just really seems to show here, in a review about a movie he didn't know about! There's just something about this video that really says to me "Yeah, this is someone reviewing something from a series that he's loved since childhood.

You asked a very common question. I'd like to think that Pal is in the same boat as Pluto (from Disney obviously). Pluto and Pal are both non-anthropomorphic animals because they serve the purpose of being pets. There's definitely a better answer out there, but do you see what I mean? Well, actually Pluto is intelligent enough to be confused for being anthropomorphic and Pal's not... I dunno, this is a dilemma.

I can only wonder what it’s like to live near peebs.
We learned to feed our dogs every day, let them out when they need to pee, and to not yell at them, pull them around by their leashes, or leave them out in the sun. We also learned that while non-anthropomorphic dogs exist in the Arthur universe, there are many, MANY anthropomorphic talking bulldogs, poodles, and sheepdogs. Rabbits are also not to be trusted as detectives, because they never are right (Take the specimen we call "Buster," for instance. He even believes in aliens). We also had a startling revelation that "THE PIZZA BOY IS FRANCINE!". Monkeys don't know how cameras work (Yes, Muffy Crosswire is a monkey). Aardvarks are also very forgetful, and they have creepy-faced babies. Also, "Dog" is a different language from English. We even learned about colloquial redundancies.

I have nothing against 3D animation. Heck, it can be absolutely beautiful when done well. But there are times when it shouldn't be used...and this is one of them.
Some art styles look great in 2D, but when you transfer them to 3D, it looks horrifying. And again, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES.
