Nintendo recently made a splash in Hollywood with the animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and they've sinced announced a live action Legend of Zelda movie too. But there were lot of other Nintendo cartoons and tv shows already released. Things like the Super Mario Bros Super show, the Legend of Zelda Cartoon, the Donkey Kong Country cartoon, as well as the older, slightly more obscure Captain N the Gamemaster. Sonic, while not directly a Nintendo character, is affliated with Nintendo and Mario appearing in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the Mario and Sonic games. He has also had some pretty big movies recently with Sonic the Hedgehog movie as well as a sequel, the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. But he had his own cartoons already back in the day, including the Sonic the Hedgehog TV series and the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. These cartoons and shows were pretty typical cartoons, but occasionally they stepped out of bounds into weird and even occasionally innapropriate standards. You could even say they were... UNHINGED. Mine was the one where he went up against Gro-goroth, the Destroyer of Men. Which sounds outlandish, but with all the eldritch space-beings Kirby's gone up against, he'd probably at least stand a CHANCE against Gro-goroth. Or I guess maybe the Traces of Gro-goroth?

Link and Zelda are seen to embrace at the end of Zelda 2. I think they decided to turn that into like a recurring theme for the series, like he's always trying to cop a snog but fails until he actually defeats Ganon or something. I dunno, kids' show writing is stupid.

It’s funny seeing how different video game adaptations were over the years. Nowadays they’re mostly faithful and done well since some of these people have actually played the game or have grown up with it at some point in their lives, since generations grow and what not. But back then, since Video Games were kind of a new concept that only young people knew about (notably kids and teens), it was mostly just a bunch of 30-40 something year old executives finding out what’s trendy with the kids without really looking into it and just do whatever the hell they can come up with it. It didn’t matter to them if they made continuity errors or that it doesn’t really match the games in any shape or form. I’m just saying that video game adaptations are on their renaissance nowadays but I feel like these older ones are so weird and sometimes so bad that they become incredible lmao.
At least Sakurai was actually involved somewhat in the Kirby cartoon

That was 2000, and the localized version was all the way over 2012. Game devs put way more worth on their IPs by then.
I love that Link is usually portrayed at this silent and stalwart warrior but in the cartoon he’s always trying to woo zelda and is basically that one super chill friend we had at one point that didn’t take much seriously. Then you have Ganon who’s this badass and intimidating pig monster, but in the cartoon he’s the biggest jackass ever

Can't believe we have the same Sonic voice actor doing silly cartoon adventures, a gritty freedom fighter story & a musical cartoon and the one thing we will always his cartoon Sonic for is his "Sonic Says" segments.

The reason for Link's sleezy come-ons were literally a "product of when it was made" because there was a SUPER popular show on TV that the time called 'Moonlighting' (this was the show that shot Bruce Willis to superstardom). The leads of the show had a "will they/won't they" energy that one was interested and the other seemed to hate them but it did swap positions whenever the other showed interest. So, everything was copying this (even the fantastic 1990 Ninja Turtles movie did this with April and Casey).
However, the show did drop off a bit after the lead characters finally got together, leading to the end of the series but it did top the TV Guide ratings for many years before it ended.

That DKC Cartoon segment was missing one crucial scene.
The infamous line "I'd shower you with coconut cream pies!" from the song "Our Love is Stronger Than a Golden Banana" from Episode 6, Raiders Of The Lost Banana, is often taken out of context for rather inappropriate jokes.

As a kid I was always confused by hearing my parents going to the drug store but then hearing these PSAs that drugs are bad.
Also, there were a lot of PSAs against drinking and driving, I thought my dad was a criminal for drinking his coffee while driving.
Me too! All I ever heard was 'don't do drugs' and was so confused by how often my patents went to the 'DRUG store'
I remember as a kid we just learned abt the dangers of drinking and all that, and I saw my dad with a bottle of root beer later that day. I was inconsolable because I thought my dad was drinking and an alcoholic

Fun fact: Kid Icarus' voice actor, Alessandro Juliani, also played L in the Death Note anime, Gaeta in the Battlestar Galactica reboot, Emil Hamilton in Smallville, and Spear in War for the Planet of the Apes. It's not even the only Nintendo production he was in, as he was also Nevin and Ramiel in Dragalia Lost.

If Kevin sounds familiar, there's a reason for that. He was the first major role of the Canadian voice actor Matt Hill, who's most well-known for voicing Ed from Ed, Edd, n Eddy. He also worked as a voice actor for the Canadian Ocean Team dubbing company, where he provided the voices of Bankotsu from Inuyasha, Keroberos from the Canadian dub of Cardcaptor Sakura, and Roberto from Hamtaro, just to name a few.
PBG videos are the only ones to still make me audibly laugh even after all these years.

With Nintendo now more open to expand their franchises to other mediums, we'll probably be seeing more TV shows in the future. I think a Pikmin or Metroid show would be amazing.

AFAIK most of the DiC Mario and Sonic cartoons are available on TH-cam from the current distribution rights holder, Wildbrain, and the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon is available on Steam for some reason.

I love watching the Donkey Kong Country cartoon sometimes. Between the terribly aged animation, baffling episode concepts, genuinely catchy songs, and incredible characters like K. Rool and Bluster Kong, it's always a joy when I decide to throw on an episode.
Fun Fact: One of the Mario cartoons was one of those celebrity guest episodes featuring...Milli Vanilli.
Literally _within a week of the episode's airing,_ Milli Vanilli was ousted for lip syncing all their music and became pariahs.
The rapping episode was the first episode of the Super Mario Bros Super Show DVD I received as a birthday gift, and therefore my first episode learning about that cartoon. Off to an interesting start.
I guess it makes sense that Lou Albano (live action Mario) has a "threatening aura" since he was a professional wrestler for 20 years.
These shows were always so unhinged, hope we can get a part two where you talk about some of the strange episodes in the Kirby anime
Escape from Koopatraz is awesome. King Koopa rules this world with an iron fist, so he humiliates our heroes when he captures them (like he often does) with that trial and then as a warden. He taunts them that he's going on a 10-year raid on the princess's kingdom, knowing they can't stop him. That's what I love about this version of Bowser, he's an evil bastard and he loves that.
Sometimes I think I had weird dreams as a child. Then these episodes come along to remind me they were real.

To be fair to Mario writers, children's Harry Potter also found Alcatraz prison a perfectly reasonable subject to parody, as did RuneScape, and All Dogs Go To Heaven 2. Escape is fun for all ages!

I remember at the start of my ninth grade English class everyone in the class had to right a very short story. It was only seven lines long and some of the text was already filled out for us. I remember specifically righting about Luigi learning to speak French for my story and I think it might have been the extremely suppressed memory of seeing this show as a child that caused me to think that story up.

Both Pokemon and Kirby got very lucky. Pokemon Anime going for so long, as soon we finally come to end Ash's story and slowly set to move to Pokemon Horizons, Japan celebrates Ash's Journey. Kirby is also special since Nintendo seem to be involved that it's one of the few Nintendo Cartoon to get one episode included in a Kirby Anniversary Collection and have a 3D Spin off for the 3DS.
Pokemon show is pretty ass beyond showcasing the creatures it took 20 years for something to happen
while Medabots for example in less then 60 episodes has some the most dramatic lore by the end
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 I feel it like both have their own strength and weakness on what both Pokemon and Medabots were able to accomplish.
Pokemon goes smaller since a fair mount is understood that Pokemon are natural to the world like Animals. So the anime more focuses on smaller things like learning about the Pokemon which makes it easier to get into. You might come across some of the most iconic episodes that woud later be remembered fondly. With the noticeable down side of repetitiveness.
Medabots goes more toward most anime (including earlier seasons of Digimon) with an over arcing story and lore. So those wanting to get more from it. It's obvious downside to that and most media that fallow this direction is getting into the show which expects you to just to episode 1. You be lucky getting into Medabots with a fun episode or manage to find the first episode, or you end up in a middle of an arc no clue what's going on.
@@LucarioShironaYo-Kai Watch is animated by the same animation studio as Pokemon and does a way better job of fleshing out and explaining the monsters and their lore than Pokemon by being a comedic slice of life with a sprinkle of dark tragedy; an angle Pokemon emulated come Sun and Moon after XY anime ratings were being toppled by the Yo-Kai Watch anime in Japan.

@@DrCoeloCephaloi absolutely love yokai watch, haven't really watched the anime but i'm currently replaying all of the 3Ds games. it'll always hold a place in my heart and i'm sad its not really relevant anymore. i also agree that yokai watch is really good with its lore and using dark humor to explain it, lol.

The most hilarious part in the legend of Zelda show

I realize now that it wasn't very good, but dammit, Legend of Zelda was my absolute favorite cartoon as a 10 yr old kid. I used to wait all week for Friday at 4pm to watch. I get it, as an adult it's pretty bad. As a kid though, I LOVED ZELDA! I loved seeing it as a cartoon, and kept hoping more episodes would be made.
The Toad character (from the old Mario Cartoon) in the Brazilian Portuguese version is just fabulous. His accent (he's sounds like an angry little guy who is also old) and the stuff the says. I can't really translate, but he's always saying some funny phrases, like those comebacks you hear from kids. It's funny as fuck. He is the definition of unhinged.
"Don't want your hair to get mussed," is what Link says. It's not really used anymore in general language (turns up a lot in books still). It just means messy.
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Legend of Zelda are still pretty awesome cartoons. 😊

Edit after watching through the video: I actually ironically really enjoy Captain N, because of how cheesy and dumb it is. I actually thing it being inaccurate really helps, since you can easily distance it from the source materials. Just the other day I watched the episode of the Mario Super Show that is not only a parody of The Ten Commandments, but it also had a trio of Toads spoofing the Three Stooges in it. Those two usually go together, right?

Spoofing classic movies and celebrities was pretty common for cartoons. Muppet Babies probably did it the most. But it started way back with Looney Toons.
In the early 90s there were two different Sonic cartoons airing at the same time. One was dark and dramatic. The other was a hilarious comedy about chili dogs. And the same guy played Sonic in both shows. Isn't that wild? The same guy playing two different versions of the same guy?

One of the strangest episodes of "Captain N: The Game Master" was "The Trouble With Tetris." Just imagine the writers' room when they were told they had to come up with a standard 20-something minute Saturday Morning action-adventure story...based on a game that is nothing but lining up falling blocks. In "Captain N," Tetris is a world in Videoland where everything is squared off, including the people. It's led by Mayor Squaresly, who for some reason is obsessed with declaring holidays. (Because days on a calendar are square?) The main plot is about Princess Lana's long-lost brother Lyle, who, despite being a wimp, for some reason, works as a security guard for the one thing that can destroy the entire world of Tetris, which Mother Brain wants to steal. There was also a sequel in the very strange Season 3, in which Tetris was taken over by The Puzzle Master. Yes, Tetris has a villain!
I'm so happy we're getting another PBG Nintendo cartoons episode! They were always my favorite parts of the channel.
