I've heard Devy play that tapping lick over 100 times and I'm still amazed by it as if it were my first time hearing it! His tone and playing are some of the best in all of modern metal. Amazing musician and human being.
Just put these in a 2020 dustie waring prs. The simplest I can say is it was like supercharging the guitar. It sincerely held most if its tone but its thicker, louder, and very tight. Low end is punchy but not 'wide' id definitely say this pickup specifically would be a good choice for someone hesitant to step into the active world. Ive played a variety of emgs and sd blackouts, this pickup stands apart. It holds the guitars sound but thickens it and pushes it. Very impressed and happy with this set.
Good GOD, i have had these in my Washburn Solar V almost since i got it, and they are so god damn amazing, i REALLY wish they made a 7 string set of these pickups D:
Jone C Hoftun I’ve been asking them for that since the six string DTs came out hehe. Dev does play a 7 string every now and then too, idk what he’s using in those guitars.
So to clarify, there's an sweet active single coil sound, an aggressive passive humbucker LP sound and a passive sweet single active aggressive humbucker sound available too.
I have a set and think they're fantastic. I love the passive humbucker voice most of all. Hey Ken, can we get a "Modern Classic" set which has voice 1 from the Modern and Classic sets plus the third single coil voice from the new Classic set? I'll take two!
I know these and all fluence pickups are built way different than normal pickups. My question is can this set or any of the others be wired up with a HH pickup configuration and a 5-way switch for the inner and outer coil settings in positions 2 & 4 like a JP musicman? Also can the pickup voice selectors be wired independently? so could i do something like have the bridge on voice 1and the neck on voice 2 (or vice versa) in any of the positions where both pickups are "on"? If that were possible I'd be all over these pickups. It'd give anyone playing them with this specific wiring idea an insane amount of tonal variations. If anyone can answer any of my questions please do. I wanted to put these pickups in a PRS SE custom 24 with the wiring scheme being like I just mentioned. Would it work like I'm hoping it will? Please someone let me know. I thank you for your time and have a great day everyone.
The different modes are confusing me... The wiring diagram on the webpage says a "Standard Guitar Wiring" only has 2 voices through pulling on the tone control.. But "Signature Guitar Wiring" says it has 3 voices and that there is a "Voice Select Switch in control cavity". What is the control cavity? is it easy to switch and how do you install the rechargeable version?
Indiegaze Have seen lots of posts about the 3rd voice (as I'm thinking on buying them for one of my guitars), looks like the way to have the 3 voices at the same time is basically by using the 2 push/pull pots but they will both be volume pots (instead of volume and tone), so that way the bridge pickup volume pot will control voice 1 and 2, and the 2nd pot will control neck pickup volume and will split the coils. However if you want to have the whole thing in one shot (including tone control) you will need to either make a hole in the guitar and put a small switch (that is included in the set) so you can use it as voice 3 engage, or put the switch inside the pots cavity and try to fit it in a place were it doesn't move that much, and everytime you want to use voice 3 you will need to open the cavity and turn the switch on and off as you wish. In a nutshell you can have the 3 voices by sacrificing tone control, or have the 3 voices and tone control by sacrificing the ability to enable it without a small guitar modification.
Mauricio Sanchez I had the same question so thanks. Would it also be possible (on a guitar with 2 volume and 2 tone knobs) to route both pickups to a single volume knob and replace the other knob with a 3 way selector for the voices like Devin has on his guitar?
jcdude1585 Actually that could be a third option. To have only 1 push/pull pot for volume control (neck and bridge pickups) and use the other cavity to put the 3rd voice switch (like Devin's Framus), however tone will be missing too, but that could be possible.
I was confused too. In reality, there are two different humbucker voices (active and passive basically) and the third voice is just coil splitting/tapping (I forget the difference) the passive voice. You will sacrifice hum cancelling for the neck and bridge positions when you've got the coil split engaged, but the middle position will provide hum cancelling. I should note that newer Fishman designs like the KSE and Classic Open Core set offers an actual third voice which should provide hum cancelling in all positions. The way I had my set wired was with a three way pickup selector, a volume knob, and a mini three way toggle for selecting between the three voices. Simple but very versatile. In the case of "Signature Guitar Wiring", that's referring to his actual Framus signature guitar.
Mark is more likely to change. Misha is pretty much an embassador for Bare Knuckle. And the tonal clarity of the Fishman is more than appropriate for Mark's complex chord runs.
well... what's the point to show how the pickup sounds if you put all the mixing and mastering... even a shit pickup can sound cool if you now what to do in the mix. I'd appreciate DI tracks and RAW mix with no EQ comparing to stock PUs.
The guy introducing the show looks like the killer from the movie “prisoners” with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal lol he looks like the guy who had all the snakes in crates in his house. IYKYK
There are random spikes in the frequency range with the pole pieces, where as the blade is one cohesive magnet so you won't get those random frequency spikes.

Hands down my favorite pickups, the 2 main voices are so vastly different it’s amazingly versatile.

just ordered a set today !!
@@michaelkozakowski8094 i think youll be pleased, i havent stopped riffing with this set lol
WTF? I'll take those Tomahawk pickups!

Isn't the Fishman tobsi asai or something like that meant for 7 and 8's? If so there's your answer 👍
Jone C Hoftun I’ve been asking them for that since the six string DTs came out hehe. Dev does play a 7 string every now and then too, idk what he’s using in those guitars.
Love Devin's sound. I just love everything he does.🖤🖤🖤
I like your style
I got excited to hear this with iso tracks like the other videos, and of course devin has a bunch of effects on them.
I’m sold already thanks
I’m having problems setting up on ableton push 2 because I’m not good with Mac can anyone have mercy and help me please jimmeymcgee@yahoo.com S.O.S !
That active sound is intense. Fishman pups will be in my next guitaar; they are super interesting to me as I'm a tone tweaker.
Thank you so much for this Ken
When Devin plays it sounds always do fine

Do you use the passive humbucker sound with gain? How does it spund?
Why is the website only listing two voices?
Can someone explain the low output humbucker and single coil? How low is the output compared to the Killswitch set or Javier set?
Well I guess I found the pickups for my Jericho Avenger which I actually keep in Devin Townsend's Open C tuning
Exelent sound! What distorsión used? Amplifier? Is perfect sound metal.
Can Fishmans be installed in a left handed guitar? Are they string dependent? I’m tossing up between these and the KSE set.

Amp?
I am planing on getting them in a few months. I hope they will still be available.
Does anyone know if Devin gets any money when we buy these?
Etienne
I’m almost certain he does.
What is up with all the reverb on the distortion sound
That's just Devin's sound, regrettably. Not great for pickup demoing.

its completely impossible to hear what it sounds like underneath all the effects
Agreed, but then, they have the stems in the description. I assume you can listen to them individually without that mess.
Also, there's a playthrough video (with a mix, unfortunately, but still) th-cam.com/video/T3ztRTPupWU/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Ken, absolutely loving these pups. Been rockin Unearth since the Endless ep 🤘🏼🤘🏼 Looking forward to the new album!!
No need to drown out the tone in reverb and delay. We're trying to hear what the pickups sound like, not the rack
I still have no idea why he said it, or what the fuck it means when Ken says "which creates chaos & havoc". What??
He was quoting Devin.. while reading a script.
There are random spikes in the frequency range with the pole pieces, where as the blade is one cohesive magnet so you won't get those random frequency spikes.
That's a very subjective way to show how a pickup sound when you add a wah pedal.
I really like Devin, Seems like a cool dude. Just can't stand his music.
Try approaching his music chronologically, listening to bits and pieces of each album and look for what you like the most.
Go see him live. That's what I had to do
Cody Burke His live show is amazing. I converted a few friends and my wife, haha. They weren’t really fans until I took them to a DTP show.
But he's such a great artist, musician and technically great.
