but seriously tho, finally some EQD pedals got widely available here and I got to try out the Rainbow Machine but man, that shit is insane, like pedal behaves completely differently depending on the setting, like its freaking scary
This man should have his own TV show. ANY time I watch a video with heavy Devy in it he makes ma laugh AND shows me something informative that potentially improves my guitar playing (Evertune IS the s**t!!!!) - Aside from the fact that his music is AWESOME and Mr. Townsend produced, mixed and engineered one of my favourite records ever (Deliver us from Darkest hour) he comes across as just an all around nice guy. Thank you Devin Townsend.... You cannot be praised enough.
I always appreciate the guy who does his own rundown and doesn't get his tech to do it. Dude it is your rig you have to know how it works. The Edge for example- Hey tech guy, what is the tuning of the song I wrote?.... or...... Hey tech guy, fetch my favorite guitar of all time from the rack thar is two feet fro me. ....or..... Hey tech guy, tie my shoe!
I appreciate the tech doing them as that's really the only time they get the spotlight. Those guys are on the road just as long as the player and often putting in long hours. Never bothered me they got a bit of the spotlight.
Joel Marksbury Meh, I always see it as the musician not making time for a rundown or thinking its beneath Him. Then youve got the tech who is super fucking busy like, WAY busier than the musician and then He has to stop what Hes doing and do a rundown for thousands of people who are pissed off because its not the musician doing it.
Devy doesn't have the resources others do BUT he's also way more down to earth and also loves gear so I think he knows it's for the fans. Can't wait to see him tonight
im a guitar player and I've watched alot of these type of videos and let me tell you this Devin is the best at taking you thru this with heart.you can tell he enjoys showing us this stuff.thank you devin
Devin is probably the most authentic dude I've had the pleasure to meet in the music industry. He really is this much of a dork and always has been. lol
I've been looking for a non midi looper pedal so I don't have to tap dance when changing channels and effects. This looks to be great and I just heard Fluff talk about American Loopers!
"We get given a lot of gear, that's awesome, it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. When I was a kid that was all I wanted." This guy really, really understands me
There is a reason the EMG 81/85 set are so popular. They sound so good. In the passive realm, the JB/Jazz set is the gold standard. Between the two, there is not much you cannot do, and do well.
I think I'm going to try out that rainbow pedal. I'll out it on the floor next to my Ocean Machine pedal and play "earth day" . eeeeeeeeeay your beeeeeeeets
+Chris Meier When you play certain pedals for so long and own it, recreating your exact setting would seemingly be a waste of time. Also if you play a new pedal that you really like, you couldn't dial in it's exact settings. Also, a pedal board is simple and easy to travel with where as Lugging around finicky tube heads is not.
I was thinking of getting DT signature Framus...until I seen the $6200usd price tag :( I can't believe he endorses Warwick, and he can't pronounce it hahaha (you say worrick, with the 'O' being pronounce as it is in horrible)
Who really cares man..company's are just big corporations that are getting rich and all of these fat cats sitting with all their money...fuck them anyways...they will be rich regardless of one man's loyalty..the fact is..he produces some good sounds from the gear
Eh, its a mutual relationship. If EMG or Peavey can't produce a product to his liking, then he should move on and see what else is out there. Looks like Fishman is snatching a bunch of folks up since they are making traditional pickups now. If those companies have good artist relations and a willingness to experiment they will keep the artists around. Adapt or die I suppose.
Breaking news: different people like different things. Also, we're in 2017 (or 2015 when this was recorded), guitar gear has kinda progressed since the '70s, you know, and people actually like to make good use of that progress to make new and interesting music.
The thing about that is that i always feel all the fx, and gear, and electronics are a way to improve what cannot be improved. You could buy a lot of pedals and boards over the years, but if at some point you sell all of that, and buy a good nice Marshall, the quest is over. Perfection is just that simple.
almahperditae Again, different people like different things. Not everybody is gonna think a 70's Les Paul with a Marshall is perfection, I'd take a Skervesen with a Kemper over that in a heartbeat
"When you turn it on, you didn't know what it would do... kinda like my wife." - Devin Townsend, 2015
roflmao.
This man could be a fantastic stand up comedian!

we talked about this in another vedio. would be the best late night talk show host ever!
most funny and entertaining rig tour ever! Devin for "Saturday Night Live"
"Rainbow machine. For men who like men" AHAHAHAHA

Devin is definitely knowledgeable. It also doesnt hurt that he's also a music producer, so he for sure knows his way behind the scenes.

TheKille22 totally agree with you

Such a down to earth, funny guy.
If I had not known Devin, I would've thought he's a guitar tech nerd lol. He's so awesome, especially talking while sweep picking (in another video).
Devin is probably the most authentic dude I've had the pleasure to meet in the music industry. He really is this much of a dork and always has been. lol
I didn't know you could have a Kemper and an Axe Fx in the same room.
They behave 'cause they're afraid of the decimator
Matt Bellamy has ran both at the same time for years
Devin Townsend really knows his shit
It was a very impressive lump of shit
Always stoked to hear about what dev uses!
More complex for you now but this is very interesting. Thank you for sharing your rig with us.
dunlop 95q wah pedal! I had one of them. Best wah pedal ever, covers all types of wahs and screams!
Mm no it's not the best one the best one is CryBaby 535Q ,now this one covers everything I have it and love it.
I always love watching Devin's interviews, he's hilarious while being informative haha
The Rainbow Machine is the most bizarre pedal on the face of the earth and I love it. Good to know Devy loves it, too. :P
Sick or not, I'd still kiss that man right on the mouth.
Kyle James I'd question you if you didn't.
Gaaaaay
Caleb Tyree Yes, we are all quite aware of the homoerotic nature of this. But thank you so much for telling us the obvious. Your name is Caleb.
Hahaha....Caleb calls someone gay...who cares I'd give devvy a big gay hug..he's inspiring, humble, ect
Agreed.
Dev’s gig rig board is insane! Such a cool video on the that pedal show channel walking Through his gig rig.
Filmed at the 02 academy in Bristol I think, I was there and the gig was great !
Fishman signature? No more EMG TV? :(
Oh well, glad he's getting a sig :)
Now I really want a Rainbow Machine :D
I've been looking for a non midi looper pedal so I don't have to tap dance when changing channels and effects. This looks to be great and I just heard Fluff talk about American Loopers!
BrandonofRedemption dont get a switch DR i have one and its noisey as when on the same supply as other pedals

I have watched like 10 different gear run downs of Devins and I still can't understand a fucking word he's saying. Love him x
just the axe fx does everything every other pedal does. also eliminates 400 problems.
4:54 why does this crack me up so hard
hope we get a tour of his gigrig set up
Check out the GigRig channel. Daniel is a cool guy and a great player. He posts build videos for artists.
This would have been filmed quite some time ago... Devin's current rig is two Axe-Fx II XL units and an MFC-101.
Matt Picone It was 29th March... I was at that show.
I see Devin shops at Long & McQuade. The PS 4x4 has a L&M' price sticker on it...
Could that be what "Decimater" (sp?) from SYL is truly about? Nerdrific.
kemper and axe fx at the same time
I think I'm going to try out that rainbow pedal. I'll out it on the floor next to my Ocean Machine pedal and play "earth day" . eeeeeeeeeay your beeeeeeeets
The rainbow machine spiel was hilarious
Now David uses probably two or three Ocean machines and Im Using my ambient rig called Space Machine
Devin T. : The Human perfect storm.
u guitar gurus, look at those perfect frets on his main guitar. xl frets custom cut
look at those guitar volume knobs, like he jacked them off a tiny terror.....lol. love ya dev
Great video, unfortunately it seems the camera is mostly out of focus for the whole thing.
13:25 LOL
Anybody knows what kind of wood the top of the dark semi-hollow Les Paul is made out of?
J.SchultheißOfficial - I believe he said mahogany body with a maple top
I'm guessing the SYL song Decimator was inspired by the story here?
14:42 AHAHAHHAHAAHA
13:23 HAHAHA!!
4:55 xDDDDDDD
Hevy Devy
Fucking Love Dev
Grid Slammer! \m/
axe fx and kemper + a pedalboard?!?!?!

Yngwie carries his guitar, overdrive pedal and a delay. Think about that!
fucking hillarious
That 335 style is so damn sexy
For men who like men.
I was thinking of getting DT signature Framus...until I seen the $6200usd price tag :(
I can't believe he endorses Warwick, and he can't pronounce it hahaha (you say worrick, with the 'O' being pronounce as it is in horrible)
Please anyone who posts anything should post something about Devin Townsend should use his real name.,...God!
Gear Porn ... nice collection HevyDevy \m/ ... I'm sure your guitar tech hates you more than Neil Peart's or Terry Bozzio's drum tech hates them, lol
i forgot that devin was funny, lol
Hevi devi
Lights are a bit much, thats the only negative in this videp, to me
Oh devy, for men who love men haha
My rig got stolen exept 4 my guitar.30,000 gone. Can anyone get me back on the road? SOS
His RIG has almost more personality than him
Man. Devin's not loyal to any company. Just saw him do video's endorsing EMG's and Showing off his Peavey V signature and now he's not with either.
Who really cares man..company's are just big corporations that are getting rich and all of these fat cats sitting with all their money...fuck them anyways...they will be rich regardless of one man's loyalty..the fact is..he produces some good sounds from the gear

You plug the axe into a marshal and that's it :D Sometimes you might need some delay and shit, but it's way tooooo much techy going on here.
