Other than Christmas songs, not many people know who Mariah is. And also, of course Mariah would have been a bit more popular at the time since she had songs that could have been played on every radio station, duh 🤦♂️ even so, Eminem had/has more global recognition. Look at where they are now. When did she last launched an album? What was her last hit?

She has a subtle diss with a catchy tune that can and was played everywhere which made it 10 times more popular than Em's reply. On the other hand Em had better lyrics, more lyrics and it was outright rude and did the job.
On popularity, Mariah straight up killed it. On verses Em was better. So it's hard to say which was the winner. It depends on how you view the songs i guess

Keep in mind to be fair, that Mariah Carey has more number one singles than any other solo artist in history.

She’s barely shy of the Beatles.
She’s been breaking and setting records since 1990.
Always nipping at Madonna’s heels even though Madonna had a huge head start in the 1980’s.
She’s also the only artist to have ever had a number one hit single in every decade since her debut.
Also, Mariah Carey is the reason that Hip-Hop and R&B artist Crossovers exist.
She started it all the way back with Ol’ Dirty Bastard in her “Fantasy” Remix video.
At the time when she started doing it, no one else had, and the record label SONY thought she was crazy.
I’m not saying Eminem hasn’t had his own share of success, but they are not on the same level.
By the way, there are no people dressed like Eminem, that IS Mariah. That’s why “they” don’t look so much like him.

That's because every other artist released music differently. Michael for instance was mainly into releasing albums, first single after. He was mainly aimed at selling them more. He preferred sales more than charts that's why even if many artists today have more hits they can't match his level.
Mike was selling heavily, if he had released them as single 's only and more frequently he would have set the record straight for the "hits".
For example his "thriller" song was not #1 on the charts cause the album was released before. He was aiming for large sales more than charting he could have released them as singles before if he was more concerned about the hits only.
As of today his albums are more selling than any of the artists you have mentioned above. His 4th best selling album surpasses sales of those artists' best selling albums that you mentioned above. Michael from his grave is selling out music better than these artists.
Right?! At the time, Eminem was big, but Mariah was established. She had had a very long career already, it's not the same to talk about them today. She's pratically retired, n he is too TBH 😅 today they can choose to make an appearance.

G&R got pulled at one point, Metallica got pulled at one point, Pantera, Type O Negative, Black Sabbath, Annihilator, Anthrax. MTV and radio #1's is much worse of a metric to go by than album sales.
