Hey Chirs. The tank is beautiful, but you may want to consider having a few more vertical spaces for Repashy to climb on, especially in the middle of the tank. It'll give her more space to explore so she's spending less time on the glass or trampling the plants XD
Fish For Thought is it feasible to combine any aquatic animals in an paludarium setup with a crested gecko like rapashy? Like shrimp or neon tetras? Asking for a friend experienced with all the above animals
“So cool to see them exploring their new world” I feel this. I’ve been watching the nerites explore my new tank all week while I wait for the mollies to come in at the LFS.
As someone that basically has a mini jungle in my home the actual worms are never supposed to be in new clean sterile soil which leads me to believe that the soil was not storage and handled properly in the plant TH-cam world people would be pissed. 😂 I'm glad in this case it works out for you nicely! 😄
I'm glad you've decided to take the bioactive route! I'm a huge reptile fan and I'm happy to say this looks really good! I watch your other builds too, your craftsmanship is really inspiring!!
its really surprising that this video is over a year old but still gives me the same feeling when i look back on it. i remember watching this 5 minuets after it was published and it still makes me happy
Beautiful!!! I suggest adding some horizontal branches up at the top (like artificial bamboo bars or a tall piece of spider wood), my geckboi Banksy loves being at the very top of his enclosure and it is gorgeous when the plants start growing around them
100% silicone works great! Just make sure it’s 100% silicone, or even use some that’s specifically meant for fish tanks. Let it fully cure and she’ll be good to go! 😊
Nearly everything in mine was free😂 just got it from the woods. I also took cuttings from my family's house plants and used old pea gravel for drainage at the bottom. At some point a tomato seed must have made its way into the enclosure because i have a tomato plant just soakin' up rays with the other plants. After a year it is absolutely beautiful and my cresty loves it
There's this secret sphagnum moss patch that I know of in Vancouver... there's a big gravel path at the end of riverside drive... follow the trail for a few meters and then take a left (not the one that has rock stairs) after you turn left just follow the path until you see a small bridge look to the right off the bridge and you'll see it. That spot saved me so much money
This was a really interesting and engaging process to watch Chris. Great job in scripting and filming it all. Perfect living conditions for Rapashy, and I’m just like you. I love watching (in my case fish) explore their new surroundings when I add any new, or re-aquascape my existing tank
This is an inspiration, I’m a reptile lover of one bearded dragon, two red eared sliders, & two crested geckos… I’m also go to own a few frogs, mud puppies, & sea horses. You’re vision is beautiful, I can’t wait to show off my Bioactive world once I’m done investing & customizing.
She is so cute we saw some babies at our LFS on a tour we filmed their....they are soooo cute....she is lucky to have you sir ....you did a great job on this🌱🌱🌱🌱👍👍
She is so pretty Chris. I have a terrarium with 3 giant african land snails, about 300 Isopods (dairy cows and giant orange) and springtails. As well as my tropical fish tanks, I also have 18 african dwarf frogs and 3 sharp ribs newts .... as well as 19 cats.
Some cork bark rounds would look great in the back wall! All members of the Rhacodactylus family love em (gargoyles, leachies, cresties) They make great hiding spots too
Im getting a chameleon gecko next week, my first reptile 😊 i have a bioactive tank i have been setting up for months now, getting the microfauna population up and letting plants establish. I love watching videos like this 😊
I would recommend some more nutritious soil. Maybe add sphagnum moss, sand, bark, and plantation soil that you have and also the worm castings. Nice vid tho
Looks amazing! I've started a bioactive tank for my crested but want to give it some upgrades! How do you modify the existing foam background to hold moss and other plants?
I love the slow-mo jumping clip! Omg the awesome sticky foot getting traction... and BAMM !! Yeah, I’d enjoy getting that on video for sure. I love finding people who are gecko lovers like me. 🦎💕
Awesome man I wish I lived over your way so I could send you some more harder to find plants like margrarvia, miniature orchids and others. Have a good Friday and enjoy!
I know that in the US it's uncommon for people to provide UVB but I'd really recommend getting it. While they're nocturnal animals, they do use it and will come out to bask in the UV during the day when they need it. Definitely keep the LED alongside for the plant growth (they don't tend to do too well on just UVB.) Keeping her in the room with the aquariums will definitely keep her warm enough though. ☀️
Im new to this. I have our terrarium next to the window (north facing so not direct sun, only late afternoon sun & indirect) is that enough for the plants & the gecko? So that I won't need to get a UV B light
Dear Chairs, us reptile hobbyists tend to be VERY hateful towards suction cup feeding ledges, as too many a gecko have died from freak accidents. What we prefer to use are ledges with rare earth magnets, so I recommend that u get some and install them on the current ledge you have, with the suction cups. That big bromeliad is indeed a Guzmania, your isopods are Porcellio laevis. Sweet build. Stay safe!
I've never housed my cresties any less than a 40 gallon at mature age. I honestly believe it's neglect to not have proper space for them. Imagine if all your life, you only have that amount of space to move around, and you were only taken out for a little bit each week?
I love this! I've been thinking of doing something like this for my gecko now that I've had some experience aquascaping fish tanks and gained a little confidence. Thanks for the guide!
next time you do a bioactive build, its typically best to add the whole culture, soil and all! if they've laid any eggs, it'll add those and it helps them integrate!

I built a 40 gal bioactive for my Pacman frog and had to let the environment and Clean-up-crew go through a mold cycle for a month. Did you have to do this or are lizards not affected by that sort of thing? Frogs are very sensitive lol

Wild caught tanks are underrated. Though reclusive, they can be found roaming the woods in search of nutritious plants. You just gotta catch one.
