I have gotten around the lack of a calculator on the iPad for years, by using Siri and asking her to do the calculations for me as long as they're simple. I often need to translate Fahrenheit into Celsius and vice versus versa and also convert dollars to euros and vice versa! Siri does that for me and I don't even have to pick up the device, whichever one I want to use.!
The calculator has been improved but they could do more with the conversion by displaying previous chosen settings when changing conversion. Eg I use currency British pounds to euros, then I move to weight and select kg to stone. When I go back to currency conversion it still shows kg to stone selection. I shouldn’t need to select again the conversion it should remember my previous setting. Also on conversion to stone is there any chance they could incorporate displaying stones and pounds rather than the decimal display of pounds.
There’s a few anomalies with the conversions. Another one I found is that under volumes, you can convert litres to imperial gallons. But under the fuel calculations you can only convert litres per hundred kilometres into miles per US gallon there’s no miles per imperial gallon.
I wonder if the currency conversion calculations will be regularly updated or at least connected to the internet to get the latest currency values, seeing as they fluctuate every day. If it does, game-changing tool!

I am sure there are a lot of good changes with iOS 18, but I feel I am constantly re-learning iOS. I am currently struggling to fight my muscle memory when using photos, and can't find photos and albums where I used to. I really didn't have a problem with the previous layout. This goes with a lot of things that Apple changes. Some of us need a rest from the learning curve. If you buy a new Apple device, the option to go back to a familiar operating system has gone forever. Not all updates are improvements. Years ago, in the Calendar app you could add an entry but going to the day view and tapping on the time slot you wanted the appointment. Now, when you add a new appointment, Apple assumes that, whatever day you want it on, you are most likely to want it to be at the current time. This is a ridiculous assumption. Why can't they go back to the "tap on a time" method? Yeah, I am not a teenager anymore but I spend a lot on high end Apple devices. Please don't fix the things that aren't broken and work on the ones (like Calendar, above) that are.
It seems that this live transcription function is still not available to all countries or not as a fully-fledged feature for all iPads. At least on my iPad (in Brazil) it is not working at all.
Re US v Imperial volumes, and conversions - I have read that the US uses the old wine gallon and Britain the beer gallon. And coming to conversions and the common inability to deal with fractions except by using a decimal version, I saw in 1966 a mechanical card processor, then in use, which handled 4 bases: 4,12,20, and 10 (farthings and half-pence, pence, shillings, and pounds). No problems. Oh, and a drive train with a pair of elliptical gears. Always thought that mechanical engineers needed more brains than software engineers. PS want a laugh? One of my colleagues was doing a little calculation using the base 8. He knew that the answer would contain a half, but he always came up with .4 and (habit makes fools of us all) expected .5 . Reminds me of someone’s remark that there are ten kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don’t.
I just up downloaded and installed the new upgrade for my iPad and now the touch screen isn’t working, I can’t do anything with it. My phone and watch are fine but my iPad will not respond to any kind of touch. I can’t even switch it off and on again. I would be really grateful for any advice.
Not sure if Apple allows access to multiple iCloud ID account without logging out and back in again with the next account I want to go to. Thought I read this somewhere in the iOS Users Terms Agreement .
Make the 18°1 intelligent enough to recognise the face and align the profile accordingly → this would imply that as soon as I hand over my lpad to someone else the guest profile should activate automatically and only those apps which are allowed data guests only those should be seen.
Had they had included the calculator app by last year in ipad, i would not have donated my ipad, I switched to Samsung because apple forced me to do so by not including the calculator.
So I want to like like iPadOS 18. But it has a bunch of quirks that annoy me. Like the fact that you can move the app icons so it’s not filling from left to right top to bottom is a nice addition. But it’s really broken where moving one icon moves everything. I like that safari no longer automagically closes tabs when I am scrolling through the tabs because it thinks I my vertical scroll was a flick to the side. But the fact that the tab groups are now in a collapsible side panel instead of in a drop down menu when I tap on a tab group is annoying not to mention that the search tabs requires me to swipe down. The fact that Journals is on iPhone and not iPad astounds me. The darken background not being tied to your dark and light mode is also a weird choice. All and all I feel like overall it is probably a net positive but some of the decisions make me go what were they thinking.

Great job as usual. Found it interesting that Apple didn’t address the Vision Pro at all.
It seems that this live transcription function is still not available to all countries or not as a fully-fledged feature for all iPads. At least on my iPad (in Brazil) it is not working at all.
Not out yet
I was rather looking forward to the new Siri graphic around the edge of the screen. Not there yet, alas.
I just up downloaded and installed the new upgrade for my iPad and now the touch screen isn’t working, I can’t do anything with it. My phone and watch are fine but my iPad will not respond to any kind of touch. I can’t even switch it off and on again. I would be really grateful for any advice.
Can you please make a video on multilingual keyboard on iPad os 18?
thank you
Thank you so much ❤
Great, simple, clear information, and such a soothing voice.
I can not use the transcript feature
Would m2 air get apple intelligence?
Not sure if Apple allows access to multiple iCloud ID account without logging out and back in again with the next account I want to go to. Thought I read this somewhere in the iOS Users Terms Agreement .
THANKS PROPER😎💚💚💚
Make the 18°1 intelligent enough to recognise the face and align the profile accordingly → this would imply that as soon as I hand over my lpad to someone else the guest profile should activate automatically and only those apps which are allowed data guests only those should be seen.
Yay we have a calculator 🎉
I have several calculators around my house.........
it would also be nice if the calculater show the way how it got the answer
Hey man i was wondering should i get this update or not cuz i was wondering that whether it could affect my ipad battery life.
No battery max charge control like in iPhone?
Already have it on my M2 Air …I am still on ios 17
@@thatguy_dirt_in_your_eye I have m2 and I cant find it
Had they had included the calculator app by last year in ipad, i would not have donated my ipad, I switched to Samsung because apple forced me to do so by not including the calculator.
IpadOS is available already?
How come my iPad says it’s on the latest version but it’s still on 17?
It is still waiting on the phone app to work on iPadOS.
Tnx pat
Thank you.
