I ordered the Apollo x6 for $1600 because I thought that's a steal. But after testing I returned it again. I just needed the sanity check if the Neumann MT 48 is truly the best right now. And it is. The Apollo x6 sounds so bad in comparison. MT48 really suits you!
@@Neekzuthank you!! But tbh I’m totally not against apollos. I still have one because of the workflow and the conversion is pretty good for what you get but it’s just that the MT48 is on a different level.
@@jacksp8de The Neumann MT 48 truly excels when paired with outboard gear, while tracking and printing through plugins with the Apollo X4 Gen 2 feels like a lifehack compared to any other audio interface. I’m drawn to Apollo for its workflow, branding, GUI, and functionality, but the MT 48’s sound quality is just undeniably superior. It’s a tough choice - I currently have both the Apollo X4 Gen 2 and the MT 48 here. I probably keep both cuz they're my babys.
I love so much the uad plugins and how the apollo interfaces work with them, but listening the difference between the MT48 and the Apollo X6. It's just... The answer I was looking for. The MT48 is the one 😢😅. Haha thanks for this reviews comparison videos! That track it's a banger ✨
I know right! I was fighting it lol. I can't leave Apollo alone though so I connected the MT48 to the Apollo through ADAT so I can use the MT48 conversion to record through the UAD console and it's the best of both worlds.
Such a under rated mic I have no more expirence with high end mics other then the 49 but really idk how much better a mic could or would sound 🤷♂️ crazy
Hey Jack nice video; I have a question, how can I know the correct db to use in my mic for recording vocals on daw? For example I have “CHANEL 1 mic 1” and there is also the DAW1 Chanel . Which decibels should i put them on ? I have a tlm 102
@@jacksp8de yes that’s where the doubt comes from. I know I can handle the db directly in DAW in the respective recording Chanel but in the MT48 after I adjust the preamp shows “mic 1” and the knob to adjust the db that where I don’t know where to put it.
The main reason I’m considering leaving the Apollo workflow is that I no longer care for the DSP setup. I also don’t plan on using multiple monitors anymore, which is why the MT 48 has really caught my interest. Selling my Apollo x4 might be worth it!
@@EzraExan If you don’t need DSP, the MT48 is a great choice. You can also use the Apollo without console so you don’t have to use the DSP. If you can try the mt48 before you buy it do that. It’s real pricey and you should be sure you like the sound of it. It’s clean but for some it’s too clean. You can always dirty it up though. Also Before you switch make your room sounds good. You need good acoustics and a great mic more before upgrading conversion imho
For my voice the Atlantis is hard to beat. The TF51 is great because it’s a different flavor and it’s a tube but it’s sibilant. The tlm49 is smooth but boxy in the mids.
I heard a great sound. By any chance, how many DBs did you set the MT48 preamp gain to when recording? It's a very clean and rich sound. I'm currently planning to buy a separate preamp and set it up, but would one Neumann preamp be enough to produce the quality of a commercial album? Please give me a valuable and honest answer. Have a great day.
The MT48 was set to zero since I’m using line level from the Newton channel. The Newton had 42db of gain. You don’t really need an external preamp with the MT48, unless you want to change the sound. I like the sound of the Newton for my purposes. And yeah any modern audio interface can make a commercial album. It’s more about the song itself than the equipment.
@@jacksp8de Thank you so much for such a great and essential answer!! I'm using the MT48 on loan, and it's the best sounding desktop interface ever. The only problem is that the preamp noise is a bit audible. Sad. I wonder if there are differences depending on the device. I'm really curious about how Jack Spade TH-camr's 48 noise compares to the Neve. Have a peaceful day today~!

Nice! I haven’t tried the Gen 2 yet. How much better does it sound? I’m guessing the MT48 still sounds better?

Could you do a mic shootout between the TLM 49 and Lauten Audio Atlantis?
I have the Atlantis but desire the TLM 49 for sure.
I dont' have the 49 anymore, I liked the Atlantis more. The 49 is pretty good, though. Depends on your voice.
MT48 Sound clean and open nice balanced

You mean recording level? Try -18 with peaking at -12 or so. Yeah you record into channel one, daw1 is just everything your computer plays.
@ so just leave daw Chanel on 0 db and mic one try -12 or -18?
@@soutopr Well you set the gain coming in using the preamp gain. You view the level in your daw averaging -12 to -18
