That was their “Break Out” song in 1974 on their 3rd album. It was the first one of their songs to hit the charts in the USA. I was amazed hearing it on the radio. I had never heard of such amazing harmonies and the lead singers voice was so unusual. That was the beginning of my Queen obsession! Lol. Please react to a live bohemian rhapsody performance. Live at rock Montreal 1981.
Hey David, it's so fun to watch your reactions. Please please do "In my defense", sung by Freddie, from Dave Clark's musical "Time". The song is beautiful and Freddie's vocals are incredible. You won't regret it! one of my favorite songs.
it's such a freddie song sherry, loads of harmonies and complex writing, his songs were always well written and very complicated with of course the very odd exception, he never took the easy route! always makes me laugh when people who don't like Queen say they are over-rated 😂 👑✊🇬🇧
This was the first video I had ever seen of Queen many many years ago!! At first I couldn’t figure out what Queen was about but I’ll tell you I couldn’t take my eyes off Freddie!!! Even then he was stealing hearts away!! 🎼💗🎼💗 I think, in fact I know you would love DEAD ON TIME! 🙏🙏
Ric Beato recently did a “What Makes This Song Great” on Bohemian Rhapsody. A “MUST WATCH”! Includes clips from his hour long interview with Brian May. Also a “MUST WATCH”!!❤️ 👑
This was the song that made me first notice Queen. Such an unusual tune and such clever lyrics! Freddie wrote this over a weekend. Brian was convalescing at home from ulcers and hepatitis, so the other three were working without him. He came back and filled in his parts when he was well enough. I liked the way you pointed out the harmonies and high notes and especially Freddie's charisma. On a totally different note, I'd love to see you react to 2 songs from the Jazz album. 'Dead On Time', a Brian song, sung by Freddie. Also "Leavin' Home Aint Easy", another Song by Brian sung by him.
Fabulous classic! Queen just makes everything better! My mind is still blown that Freddie had such incredible stage presence and charisma, while he was so modest and shy offstage. The ballad is about a high class call girl (aka courtesan). It was too bad that it was required for the band to mime/lip sync to a playback track, even the drum symbols were fake. The experience must have been pure torture for them to have to mime and also a major insult to their artistic talent and professional integrity. What also sucks is they actually never played the entire song through live, it was always part of a medley. They definitely put the glam in glam rock! In their early years, they wore vintage outfits during concerts and they all shared outfits, mixing and matching as needed. Freddie and Roger also ran a vintage clothes stall together and when it came to looking for possible items to sell, Freddie definitely lived by the motto "one man's trash is another man's treasure" if you catch my drift. I hear you, life happens! No worries, I'm just happy when you post these great reactions at all.
In this particular moment Freddie is the epitome of a mod 1970s vamped up version of Brit's Noel Coward...a witty, theatrical (with the sensibilities of a playwright) composer & lyricist, well-versed, artistic...Yup, charismatic too!
This is one of my Queen fav... which is really difficult 'cause I have lots of Queen favs. These guys are fabulous and always uplift my spirit...it's the Freddie Mercury effect 😎❤️👑😁 Great reaction as always, David 😎❤️
All high notes on harmonies are mostly Freddie and Roger together. In Killer Queen you hear Freddie, alone. But 90% of the time they did high harmonies together. Freddie and Roger both had high falsettos. It seems like people find it strange that two singers have high falsettos in the same band. Check out Rock In Rio Blues 1985 th-cam.com/video/W7sNNIxqitA/w-d-xo.html. Here you can see Freddie doing high falsetto alone.
Came on TH-cam to watch John Deacon doing his thing with Queen and here you are. Yes, been a while. Enjoyed your insight. Deaky's hair was really long too.
This is official clip, but there are some clips to this song (Dutch etc...versions) were Brian is not using his Red Special guitar, he used Strat and Gibson! You can check out also a Dutch version! And yeah, Rick Beato is great! Subed to his channel 5+years!)))
the designer Zandra Rhodes designed the clothes Queen wore - Queen stopped playing Top of The Pops as they were asked to mime and Queen refused to do that.
Love your reactions. Glad you eventually got round to the studio version of their breakthrough song. Yes its just Freddie on backing vocals. If you want to hear Freddie's falsetto live it would be great if you could react to Its A Hard Life from Rock in Rio. Also the piano & guitar instrumental in the middle just has to be heard!
Great track, hit No 2 in charts before the Rhapsody was let loose on the world...........If you like a base riff, check out "Body Language"........it's time John got some recognition.
Thanks, Jack (or is it David?) - I love this song - first one I heard by Queen - whenever it comes on radio, I always know it in an instant -- five finger-snaps, then "She keeps..." lol (BTW - long hair (maybe a not quite THIS long - on the original/official Bohemian Rhap - and also on the White Queen live... :)) - oh, and Brian the scientist on guitar -- also "fastidious and precise" - love the "swipe" right before "playful as a pussycat" - lol
You made me go way back lol, I used to play with the Queen vinyl sleeves when I was super young loving the art, & my sister asked me to pick a song to play so I chose this one. It’s one of my favorites. Please react to “On the Turning Away” by Pink Floyd.
If you want to hear a young Roger Taylor, check out his performance from 1966 at the tender age of 17 with the band The Reactions. Two of the songs he covers are James Browns' I Got You (I Feel Good) (th-cam.com/video/N-n0oVSew6Y/w-d-xo.html) and WIlson Pickett's In The Midnight Hour (th-cam.com/video/EPCiRd7ERv8/w-d-xo.html).
This is a difficult song relative to breath control. Cheeky lyrics a la Freddie. Freddie was always Freddie...in some ways he got more reserved as he got older. lol.
Hey David, good to see you. I had to Look it up as I could have sworn this was all Freddie, and yes it is, a 4 part vocal all Freddie (overdubbed). You can tell it is Freddie’s voice. Just like the beginning of BoRhap. Check out the musical description : www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zn3yb82/revision/4 ❤️Freddie❤️
Brian May and Tim Staffell wrote Doin' Alright when they along with Roger Taylor were in the band Smile. The song was then re-recorded by Queen and was on their first album. Here's a link to the Smile original version of Doin' Alright. th-cam.com/video/B6bIyVW5pSc/w-d-xo.html
@@allanriach I didn't even know that there was a Smile version. But on a snowy day during a pandemic, might as well go looking for interesting stuff on TH-cam. A damn sight better than doing housework.

I was 13 when this came out. My friends and I 'sang' along using hand gestures wearing our bell bottom jeans and smock tops and platform shoes .

Thought you had already done it... Yes beautiful, Freddie's vocals outstanding and the feeling... Oh! Tear up every time. 😢
❤️Freddie ❤️
Harmonies are all Freddie!!!
In recent years, Brian said every bit of this song was perfection. I agree.

My 1st time seeing Freddie all those years ago love Queen
Great reaction David.
I still love this song. Heard it the first time was 17rs old.
Great Reaction! Thanks. I am forever grateful to this song for introducing me to Queen back when.

No one but Queen can write the words and music to songs like they do. Keeps you listening for sure ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
In 1974 you got such a fantastic sound live, and almost 50 years later with all the technology it doesn't even work at a Superbowl halftime show
