    If you sit in silence throughout the entire song because you're as mesmerized by Freddie's pure heartfelt talent as we are, I don't think any of us will complain. His songs and his voice can reach deep inside and pull out emotion you never thought you had. Thank you for appreciating Freddie, he deserves only the best from us because he gave us all the best of him❤ he was judged and criticized because of his lifestyle but everybody that only sees that misses so much! He is pure natural talent at it's very best❤ God broke the mold with Freddie❤

    The way that he can articulate words goes beyond anyone else I know that can sing this good. He not only sings it well but you can understand what he's saying. That has to be incredibly difficult and he did it with ease.

    When I discovered Freddie about two years ago I listened to him for hours a day crying a lot of that time, smiling too but crying a lot. His voice and the depth of soul in his performances touched me so much and thinking that he died so young leaving the world devoid of his presence just got to me. Something about him is so genuine and personal that I felt I had lost a friend. He had so much more to give and we miss him deeply.

    Freddie did a cover of The Great Pretender. The background "girls" were Freddie in the red wig, Roger in a blond wig, and a friend of Freddie's Peter Straker. It's really worth watching, especially the behind the scenes of making the video.

      And for more songs like this (where Freddie just goes for it vocally and they’re more ballad-like): Freddie’s version of “Too Much Love Will Kill You” (it’s Brian’s song and he sings lead as well on another version, which is also great and has a video that’ll make you cry... it’s about his own divorce), “Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow” (watch the official video - made recently - which is an animated love story between two male cells in the human body, and one has AIDS), “Made In Heaven”, and “It’s a Hard Life” (mainly for Freddie’s beginning vocals - one of my favorite parts to a Queen song, and especially amazing live in Rio).

    The woman with the baby in the very beginning is Mary Austin, but she is holding Roger's baby daughter who is now a medical doctor. And yes, he kisses Mary a little later. You will see her in several clips from several different videos of Freddie at award presentations, parties, and from trips. In at least one interview from the 80's he says she is his common law wife.
    I agree, this is a favorite of mine as well. Dave Clark made a wise choice when he asked Freddie to sing this song and Time for his production of Time with multiple artists performing the songs
    The man he jumps on toward the beginning is Kenny Everett who plaed Bohemian Rhapsody 14 times over one weekend, helping to make it and Queen a huge hit

  • @lkamer1
    @lkamer1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Every time i hear this song it makes me cry to think that he is gone. He really did just think of himself as a singer with a song, he wanted to be remembered for his music, not all the non sense over his sexuality or anything else. You honor him so much when you get lost in his music because that is what he wanted. The inscription on his big statue in Montreux says, "Singer of Songs, Lover of Life." Brian May wrote that inscription and it sums Freddie up so well. He loved and lived life to its fullest and inspired all of us with his timeless music. Even though this song was for a musical called Time, it suited Freddie perfectly lyric wise and vocal wise. This song was featured on the Time Concept Album and was not a hit when it was first released. Can you imagine this not being a hit? I say what was wrong with people, were they deaf? It was re-released in 1992, after Freddie's death and reached #8 on the UK charts. Freddie also sang a song called Time for that musical, it is a very beautiful and meaningful song as well. You should also listen to Freddie's solo album called Mr. Bad Guy. It is a fabulous album even though it wasn't a commercial success at the time. I just think Freddie and Queen both were ahead of their time and people just weren't ready for his greatness yet. Mr. Bad Guy is really good. Songs on that album are: Let's turn it on, Made in Heaven, I was Born to Love You, Foolin Around, Your kind of Lover, Mr. Bad Guy, Man Made Paradise, There must be more to life then this ( this was a duet with Michael Jackson as well) you can look up that song done with Freddie and Michael. It is an incredible duet between two of the greatest entertainers of all time. continuing on with the songs on the Mr. Bad Guy album, Living on my Own, My Love is Dangerous, Love me like there's no Tomorrow. You may have reacted to some of these already, I don't know but if not, you won't be disappointed.

    If you have the time I strongly recommend you check out an 18-20 minute interview of Freddie with Dave Clark (writer/producer of this song). They were friends and seemed to have genuine respect for each other. Dave talks about how he worked with a bunch of famous singers for the musical this song was a part of and how Freddie was the only one that always gave 100% in every single take. Freddie is surprised at that and says something like "I thought everybody did that", and Dave said no they don't. Freddie also talks about what makes the "Queen sound", very interesting answer that I don't think gets quoted enough.

    This was close to the end for Freddie. He was very sick. Having lost many friends to AIDS, 2 of whom I helped care for until the end, I can tell you, bro, it was a devestating way to die and to this day, having been a rabid Freddie/Queen fan since 1973, I cannot explain how this man did what he did as long as he did. Fucking superhuman. IMO he was only here 45 years because God realized he made a huge mistake and wanted him back. Bless his huge heart, and yours. Love you, young brother. Best of everything to you.

      “Only the goods die young” was written when Princess Diana died. It was written in memory of her, but it’s a song by Queen and Freddie was death, logically it was better to think that it was written by Freddie in mind. In an interview Mr Sir Brian May said he had written it in mind for Princess Diana passing.

I was told just mouth the words please, so as much as I would have loved to belt em out with you and Freddie I can accept singing when alone. Yep, you gotta now listen to the partner song from the musical TIME by Dave Clark (former drummer with the Dave Clark Five). There's a lovely interview btwn Freddie and Dave Clark after he sang the 2nd song. Re-released as "Time Waits for No One " in 2019, Dave unearthed the original copy, stripped away all the tracks, the chorus & had Mike Moran re-do the piano accompaniment because the power of the song as Freddie delivered it (not long after Live Aid) haunted him for decades. There is a deep thread that connects people to Freddie...you are in the needle now.

    As others have said, "In My Defence" was written by Dave Clark who was a dear friend to Freddie for many years. Dave Clark was one of the few people who Freddie allowed to be with him/see him during his final days. I believe he was present at the moment Freddie died.

    • @rockledgeln
      @rockledgeln 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@deeyears3978 There are lots of different stories about Freddie's death. This is one of them. "Freddie Mercury died at home in his lavish West Kensington house 28 years ago today. Dave Clark, of the Dave Clark Five, was the only person by his side at the moment he died, having been part of a small group of close friends who kept a constant vigil during the last days of the Queen legend's life." Difficult to sort out the truth after all these years. But Dave Clark was one of the trusted friends near the end.

    • @dianthus__
      @dianthus__ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave had been sitting with Freddie a few minutes before he died, but it was Peter Freestone, Freddie's PA/friend and Jim Hutton, Freddie's partner, who were with him in the end.

    • @rockledgeln
      @rockledgeln 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dianthus__ It all depends on whose memory is accurate and what the exact TOD was. And what does it really matter, after all? It surely doesn't matter to Freddie. My point was that Dave Clark was one of the few people who Freddie trusted in his last days.

    • @dianthus__
      @dianthus__ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rockledgeln Peter and Jim both described his passing in the same way, so I'm going off that. I agree, Dave was a loyal friend. It says a lot about his character that Freddie didn't feel a need to retreat from him, and that Dave supported him during his struggle with such a stigmatized disease.
