16 months down! A lot of changes this time were smaller tweaks to gameplay so this video is a bit shorter. The next video might be the same, so let me know down below if there's anything else you'd like to see instead of the usual updates!

I have a suggestion for being far away for when you want to sleep. You can make the player set up a temporary camp kind of like a house so they can sleep far away from home. So u make them set up a torch or a campfire with a tent or a sleeping bag so they can sleep far away from home. That way you can promote long expeditions so the player doesn’t feel like there stuck in town
that is exactly what I was thinking
there could also be a nice rock that you can take and then you can put it down and use it as a pillow
YEAH THIS!
Stardew + Terraria + Don't Starve
Also add the random chance to be Waylaid by enemies... "You have been waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself" =)

2am seems a bit too restrictive to pass out, especially considering their a goblin so I can imagine them staying up late. You could instead make it 4am or that you fall asleep if you stay up to 2am after not sleeping the previous night
would be a nice compliment to the antithesis of humans
It would be cool if they were nocturnal or crepuscular. Either they're awake at night, or they can be awake whenever but get a bonus during the morning and evening. Like cats.
Perhaps they could slap a bed anytime they wanted and so long as they didn't go like 18 hours without sleeping they are fine?
Btw it’s been changed
@@_Snout_ what did it change to?
After rigorous testing, I can confirm the like button both rotates and warps upon clicking.
haha me too!
Love the little goblin drawings you do for these videos. I love the expressiveness and wanted to let you know your effort does not go unnoticed!
I have two suggestions
1. Add a hot key to close the minimap so we can enjoy a clean design if we want to, or even better, add a hotkey that show an overlay of the minimap in your screen, I remember this being one feature a lot of people asked for in diablo IV including myself
2. Getting back town when you fall sleep seems a little rough if you're already very far in your exploration, I like the idea exploring on the darkness, so maybe this could happens every 2 days? 😂
Keep the great work ❤🎉
Or if there was a camp system in place where you had to set up like a torch a tent or a sleeping bags sort of like a temporary town to sleep the night
having some sort of sleeping bag would be cool too
Absolutely can not WAIT to play this. Keep up the fantastic work amigo!
Yo It’s Waffel Time?
For the exhaustion/sleep mechanic I think it’d be useful to have a clock dial thing in the UI that shoes how much time in the day you have left like Pikmin 4. In a similar vein, maybe there. Can be resources that expand how long you can be up at night at the cost of the timer going faster like Coffee, or even night expeditions/quests that require resources only found around that time. That way planning around exhaustion becomes an exploration mechanic that opens up more as the player engages with different systems. Plus, night/darkness is such a fun way to shake up the world in visuals, interactions, and behaviours. I’m just imagining night versions of creatures, fairy lights that lead to secret night merchants, or even fish/plants that only surface at night.
The second thing I wanted to comment on was for fishing and farming to offer more than just a way to get money, as if all activities just increase the player’s cash flow then eventually they’d just find the most efficient thing to grind. In turn, making the diversity in activities null by increasing the apathy threshold. I don’t know what designs you have cooking, but making a way for each system to interface with the pillars of combat, exploration, building, and social interaction could naturally guide players to engage with more of the systems.
For example, let’s say an npc requests a moon mushroom as a key ingredient in a food/potion they are making. This mushroom only appears at night in certain biomes. So to find the location the player can ask npcs, remember there is a mushroom biome, or possibly buy a book page on night happenings from a merchant. Then once the location is found/approximated, they realize that the mushroom only appears at a time near/past when they collapse from exhaustion. So to overcome that they could build an outpost so they can wake-up closer to the mushroom and race to collect it. They could grow a crop that increases move speed whilst also slightly extending how long they can stay up. They could even, idk, bribe a raccoon with a fish so it collects the mushroom for them. Then one the mushroom is turned in they get fun dialogue and relationship boost with the quest giver, then access to a new recipe that extends how long they can stay up at night and/or allows them to see farther in the dark. Essentially, with this game design tangent as I really love the art and this project, making non-monetary reasons for the player to engage with the side systems that in turn show them more aspects of the game. Like terraria and Pikmin 4 accomplish.
crazy progress, genuinely cannot wait
No likes and comments? Let me fix that :)
😮
Honestly, having experienced stardews 2am mechanic, I would much prefer a system that heavily insentivices sleep but allows you to skip it, like morning buffs, debuffs for staying up that sort of thing. I find the pass out immersion breaking and frustrating. Great video as usual!
Bro. This is ONE OF THE BEST game dev channels out there. I love your videos. I’m so excited to become a developer
Dude!!! This devlog is unlike many others - it's clear you are actually trying to MAKE A GAME!!! Like complete it!! I love watching this rapid-fire of new features - the telltale sign that you are actually honing a project for release. So cool. Cute minimap.
Also, I wonder if you could add particles or something on the tiles as they're being broken?
ISLE GOBLIN UPDATE! I literally gasped when i saw this
I was so happy to see it
i'm a full time dentist with a passion for pixelart and game development and seeing you accomplish such incredible dev work on top of a full time job inspires me to do the same. i've worked on some mods and custom maps for already made games but im in the process of learning how to use unity so i can do what you do and make one in my free time after work. You're really an inspiration man, keep it up.
Building Structures help display would profit from a visual of a simple valid room.
It would clarify edge-case questions for some players wondering why their room isn't valid.
- bed/torch need to be within walls?
- floor need to cover the whole space?
- door need to be between two wall segments?
- walls need to fully encase room?
Unless you want the players to explore these details organically.
16 months really flies by!
I love the idea of this game and all the art you make. I really hope you lean into the multiplayer aspect, giving more reasons to interact and have a laugh

I’ve steadily improved my own video game over time by doing lots of playtesting and having other people playtest. Not only does it help me find glitches, but it helps me improve the pacing/flow of gameplay and improve the game in general.
I think a curfew where you automatically pass out at 2 AM is too harsh. Maybe make it so if you don’t get enough sleep, the next day you sleep in late and have less stamina/lose stamina at a higher rate than you typically would. IIRC, this is how some of the Harvest Moon games handled staying up late.
Excited for this game, good luck with testing and your eventual launch! It's a wild ride :) make sure to enjoy it!
BALTARO'S DEV?!
I feel like the forced sleep mechanic sounds way too punishing - People falling asleep mid-boss fight, or while walking to an exciting bit of loot, etc... especially as I will 100% forget to pay attention to the clock. Goblins just passing out all over the land for nappies like a bunch of toddlers.
Possible alternatives: Debuff that can be fended off with goblin equivalent of coffee? Or just a notification "!" on screen during the daytime when any awake villagers have demands?
(Also, first time posting here because I am lurker at heart, but been watching these videos for a while and this game looks awesome, thank you for posting all these updates)
Just a note, steam doesn't count steam key reviewers as legitimate reviews, so you can sabotage your game in the recommended system by making sure the people who will love your game, won't count in the algorithm.
Damn, you,re working on this solo? Probably one of the most impressive solo projects I've ever seen! Most people skimp out on the art, but this is GORGEOUS too!
thank you for keeping us updated. I can't wait to play it, I really love the idea of playing goblins that fight humans
Almost 27,000 Wishlist is super impressive cant wait for the game to come out
Hey Matt! This update is really awesome. I'm so excited :-)
I know it's a bit late to be making big changes, but I think it would be so cool if the goblins were nocturnal. Maybe the player could pass out at noon and wake up at sunset or something, with an effect where the screen gets oversaturated and bright when the player is about to pass out, signaling that is too bright outside for goblin eyes.
I am consistently blown away with how much effort you put into this game. From the looks of it, especially considering world generation, NPC interaction, enemy AI/spawning, cycles and farming, etc., this game looks like it took thousands of hours of effort. Idk if that's true, but you definitely make it look like it. Adding a minimap to my game would take a solid week or two at least, but you made it look like it took 1hr max. Even though it's your first game (or second?) and you aren't a "professional", I definitely think you have the makings of one, and it's incredibly impressive and cool. It's definitely inspiring to my own game dev journey, and I look forward to playtesting/buying it in the future! Also, the goblin illustrations you do are incredible and eerily reminiscent of my art style that I use to freak my sister out with, so I resonate with that on a spiritual level. Love the work you do man
I like the wobble on the trees, and I know why you kept it simple, but what the stone blocks REALLY need is cracked versions of themselves. maybe a 1- 2 tier set of cracks at most to get through it, and i know it involves more versions of the same block, but it will make that difference. also, trashing items sucks. pleas offer at least like 10% value for trashing. maybe instead of trash, it's "salvage". I absolutely love the idea of calling them "schemes" instead of quests and highly encourage you to lean further into that anti-human ideal. lol. even with sleeping. humans sleep during night. I bet goblins sleep randomly as they get tired, wether it's night or not. they are chaotic beasts, after all. fantastic keep itup, just requested access, so I'm ready for playtesting when you are. thanks for all your hard work!
Great to hear that it is on steam or getting ready for steam can’t wait to play it and I’m glad you made it!!🎉
WWDC and a Watt Design upload? This is a good day!
One small suggestion - when placing structures or fencing, it's just pop out instant and I think it's not gobliny thing. It should have transparent structure kinda blueprint then goblin will hit the grid , then walls should be created. You can find the reference from survival games like valhiem type games
i suddenly found this channel again, omg the game has moved on so much, i’ll definitely be adding it to my wish list!! (75K here we come!)
Amazing progress can’t wait to see the full game
Game Devlog content is enjoyable in general, but the art popups on these videos definitely make these better than most.
Glad to see how you're work progress! good luck!
So love this game actually, the style, the atmosphere, the gameplay itself(as i can see)
You increased your wishlist goal since last video. Be careful with shifting goalposts, you're doing amazing as is
Congrats on the wishlists dude! Love watching you chase you passion🙌
so cool to see this game progress! best of luck!
It's always inspiring seeing how much you're progressing! Sending great vibes m'dude
I was literally just binging this series again and you uploaded this lol, the game looks to be coming together great!
This game is honestly coming together so nicely, dont think Ive been genuinely excited to play an indie game since cuphead
I always look forward to your content. the game is looking great!
Looks incredible man i can see the passion ! Cant wait to support
Thanks, I really like the chill vibe in your videos, I can’t wait for the game!
perhaps as a suggestion, to convey that a block is being damaged or hit you could make the block 'jostle' at increasing frequency. If you ever played something like starbound environmental objects will do that to show they're about to break. I think it would be a lot clearer which block is being worked on rather than the surrounding area warping. Game looks fun btw, happy for your progress
As a solo dev working on my first project, you are such an inspiration! Keep up the great work :)
Phenomenal! Learning so much! Thank you! I went and wishlisted too!
Wishlisted! Keep being a goblin grinding away! but be healthy :). Can't wait to see this game come to fruition. My only (unsolicited) request is please have a quickstack to nearby chests option like Terraria or something along those lines. Too many games force the player to open 40 chests to put loot away which becomes tedious.
Legendary. Love these updates. Keep going!!
good luck mate! great progress
i love the dedication you have put into this game! i can’t wait to see what it turns into
Fantastic progress! Amazing to see your wishlist results. I hope it goes well.
I just went back and watched all your previous vids after getting this one recommended! Awesome stuff!
This game looks awesome!! I look forward to watching you continue to make progress! keep up the great work :)
Amazing video! You’ve been a big inspiration in my own video game development. I truly look forward to your videos.
Enjoyable video as allways game seems to be coming along nicely keep up the great work
very much looking forward to this passion project, take as long as you need!
Loving the progress of the game so far! At night, I think the most fun, would be to include some night-only content. Might seem like lots of work, but some creativity might give the game a unique feature that might help get to the 75k wishlists. What happens at night? Elite enemies that give a choice of going to bed or staying up fighting? Side quests?
Brother, this project is busted. I’ve been following for a while, and bloody hell I’m not leaving any time soon if at all. Great video as always ;D
Yayyyyyyy another video!! Excited to play this game I can tell the work put into it is legit and well thought out!
Just discovered this channel and am watching through all your videos. Really enjoy it!
I love seeing the way the game evolves!! Cant wait to see the full release!!! :33
Love your videos so much! A combination of two of my favorite games??? I’ve been following development for a while, and I’m super excited. Definitely going to wishlist :-)
This game looks fantastic, can't wait to see the final product. I could see lots ahead for you in the future.
This is one of those games that I wish I had the idea to make before you did, which inevitably means I will enjoy playing it.
Love seeing the progress! Also the drawings cracked me up lol keep it up!
Nice progress updates and happy to see its closer to being "released". I want to play the game so much, u are doing great ... :)
I just stumbled across this video. I did not know about your game before. But I will definitely wishlist it or keep an eye out for it. It looks absolutely lovely! Good luck with your next steps :)
Honestly, your style of devlog is the most interesting one I've seen so far, and I actually engaged with them first before the idea of Goblin Island, but I did fall in love with it shortly after, I can't wait to buy it once it comes out
You made me start game development AND pixel art. Thank you so much and I hope you continue with this channel for a wile more.
Great job on the progress!
Great work! Always love to see indie devs progressing ❤🎉
This whole series made me want to pursue what’s been there my whole life video games you are such a Inspiration and are so talented please keep up the amazing work with each game you make thank you for the awesome content
Your devlogs are the best. I follow quite a few, and yours just keeps cracking me up. It’s by far the one I look forward to the most each month.
Great sense of humor, interesting game, and just an overall entertaining guy to follow. I hope your game sells to the moon❤
i just noticed the little loading icon. i love it!!
this is really cool !!! as a game design student who's about to graduate this friday, this fills me with inspiration and gives me that game making fever. hope to see more videos soon!
I love indie game dev making their own cool game! I would love to test the game when its release!
Love seeing your content pop up fam.
I love where this is going!!!
Good job man. This is incredible.
Hot dam! 26,000 of us wishlisted it? No pressure...
I eagerly await the next update.
Nice to see you did something about Lost season 1. These little things do go a far way for the gameplay loop.
For real though the game looking beter and more fun with every update! Good job so far!
I already got you wishlisted for quite a while now!
I can't wait for this game to drop
*Goblin noises*
Hey! I just stumbled upon your Isle Goblin videos and not only is the game looking great, but your videos are very well done! Also, huge huge congrats on the wishlists. That is no easy task and I am also going to go ahead and add it to mine. These are not usually the type of games that I would play, but if someone is putting this much effort and listening to feedback then sign me up. This could be the turning point for me and start playing more of these. I'm looking forward to it!
Keep up with the vids, flipping amazing game design and vids! ❤
I have to say, you are a big inspo. I am still a kid, but i want to create games and i love your vids and devlogs.I am looking forward to the release!
Dropped it in to my Steam wishlist and signed up for a future play test. This looks great.
Great progress, keep up the good work!
Yippee!!!! I recently binged the whole series. This game is so good
This is so cool I am so excited to play this when it comes out!
Loving watching this take shape
This reminds me a lot of Corekeeper which I love and I am sure you are aware of. But I really do love the flavor of your game, feels silly and fun, can't wait to try it. Good luck on the progress and I added you to my wishlist!
The goblin drawings will stay in my head for some time 💀
Wishlisted. Last time I heard of this, I thought it still was in its infancy as some concept.
Didnt know it was this cool
it feels wrong to automatically pass out and just waking up next day, maybe consider adding an NPC that would get you back to town. it just tells you after you wake up from passing out for the first time it tells you that you will fall asleap after 2 am. and every time you fall asleep you loose something.
you should change the name from "schemes" to "shenanigans"
Amazing videos-a little bubble of calm
Good to know about the patreon and the play testing. So stoked for your success Watt. Glad to know we have similar inspirations.
I hope there are achievements with hat rewards. Nothing better than achievements with hat rewards 😂😂😂
COOOL. Good luck with this!
